I have vague remembrances to go on but I know it exists. It’s from somewhere between 1999-2003, although most likely 2001. The song is a rock song that was on the radio but I can’t definitely say how popular it was because I’ve checked billboard charts and can’t find it there.
The only distinctive part of the lyrics that I recall are something to do with “The Sun.” I am thinking it’s either “Beyond the Sun” or “Under the Sun” or “Away from the Sun.”
The band sounds similar to all of the below in different ways but it is none of them.
The Calling
Three Doors Down
Five for Fighting
Lifehouse
Train
It’s not the Sugar Ray song from that period or the Weezer song from that period. The band’s sound in this song is most closely related to a ballad. It’s very soft and lacks the upbeat parts of The Calling. It starts off with an acoustic guitar or either an electric guitar with no accompaniment. As it eases into the chords, there is something that begins to sound like a woodwind although I don’t believe it is. It just has the sound of a string instrument to complement the guitar melody.
The singer’s voice and style are not stern or powerful. It’s like he tries to remove the bass from his voice even as the song’s volume crescendos his voice stays relatively quiet.
Edit: This is maddeningly confusing but I think I’m confabulating some of the words and “the sun” may not be in the chorus. But the rest of my clues are right.
