Former VP Cheney hospitalized, resting comfortably.

The larger part of me laughs with the painful truth of each word of this. The better part of me cries about the truth of it. But I do like to pretend about a nation of laws and hope for Cheney’s Hague trial.

I’m fairly far to the left, as the the American joke left goes, but until this point I hadn’t weighed in to wish Cheney dead, or whatever it is we ‘board left’ are supposed to be in lockstep about.

FTR, I don’t wish Cheney dead at all. Actually, I prefer to see him live long enough to be indicted, but have no illusions that this will ever happen.

Find a smaller brush, if you please.

Who is the face of the board’s right? I’d say Bricker is pretty representative of conservatives that I know personally. What did he say when Kennedy died? I recall nothing disrespectful of the event.

While I don’t make any claims to represent anything or be the face of anything specific, I am undoubtedly one of the board’s more conservative members. Do you have an issue with anything I said in that period?

I am not saying other members here did not behave badly when Kennedy died - they certainly did. But if the Internet has shown us anything in the last couple of decades, it is that some people will do so in commenting on a newsworthy event, and others will seize on those examples as representative of that side - as the face of the right or the left. I have fallen into that trap myself many times in the past.

Are you going to do so now?

As for Vice President Cheney - at a time like this it is appropriate to set aside political agreement and disagreement alike. I merely wish him well.

What’s your evidence for that proposition? All I’ve ever said about Cheney lately (and I think ever) is (a) in Dio’s thread, the released reports do not show (much less “prove”) that he lied about whether enhanced interrogartion techniques yielded useful intel and (b) this thread is a circle jerk thread (ie, a contentless thread started only to provide an opportunity for liberal douches to foam at the mouth about a liberal douche issue). That hardly makes me a fan of Cheney.

Here’s what I said about Senator Kennedy:

This is what I said:

Left/right has nothing to do with it. Cheney is a scumbag and Ted Kennedy wasn’t. It’s just that simple.

Mouthing a few insincere platitudes after the death of someone who was (up until the exhalation of their last breath a few moments prior) excoriated for a lifetime in the most vicious terms imaginable does accord a certain moral high ground, I suppose. I also appear slightly taller when standing on a matchbook.

This is civilized behavior. -

This is not -

Ah yes, the compassionate, tolerant Left

Is there ever a time when grave-dancing is acceptable? (Or hospital bed-dancing, I guess). I mean is the complaint here that this behavior is always unacceptable, or that Cheney isn’t “bad” enough to warrant it?

And on the same page, obviously the level of misfortune the person suffers should play into the equation too. How bad does someone have to suffer before it is unacceptable to take pleasure from it? I don’t think I am a bad person for findig it amusing if, say, Rush Limbaugh slipped on the ice walking out of his studio. I’d feel worse about myself if I found it amusing if he slipped on the ice and impaled himself through the eyeballs on a spiked fence.

Well, I for one hope he pulls through.

Because I don’t have him on my Death Pool list this year.

It’s a statement on those particular inviduals (a great, important, significant Senate figure who once got in a car accident vs. a scumbag, lying, torturing, warmongering psychopath), not on their ideology. There wasn’t anything bad to say about Teddy.

“Compassion” and “tolerance” does not mean you have to tolerate evil, or feel compassion for evil people.

It is hard to feel compassion for Cheney. I don’t want him to die a horrible painful death. I do believe he caused that for thousands of all ages around the world though. I think he was a big part of the problem of what went wrong in this country. He has come to symbolize the heartless greed and aggressive policies that ruined Americas reputation and destroyed our financial status. I suppose he is a believer in a big picture I don’t see. I am strongly anti-war. That puts me at odds with someone who sees it as a political and business maneuver. I have difficulty thinking nice thought about him, Bush , Rumsfield, Reagan, Kissinger ,and the neo-cons who demonstrated such little respect for life and respect for international sovereignty.

Poor hospital staff.

I couldn’t agree with this more.

I simply do not understand what it is about being either a) close to death, b) in the hospital, or c) old that means you automatically get compassion. Some people, frankly, don’t deserve it. Some people have spent their entire lives hurting people. Some people have destroyed any respect they may have had in the beginning.

I feel compassion for the thousands that are dead in part because of Cheney’s actions.

No, it’s not. It is merely your knee jerking.

It might be polite to pretend that there is any higher brain function involved, but there isn’t. A Republican dies, you attack him or her automatically. You said you wanted someone to dig up Reagan’s corpse and sodomize it. You said you hoped Tony Snow died in agony for no other reason than that because he was press secretary for the White House. You did the same thing when Limbaugh was sick. You are doing now that Cheney is sick. When Cheney dies, you will do it again.

“Compassion” and “tolerance” from your lips don’t mean anything at all.

When you said this -

You were lying. It has everything to do with it. It is completely determinative of how you will react.

Shodan

Guilt is for suckers and the religiously indoctrinated. Compassion in this case should be reserved for the compassionate. Dick Cheney is probably the least caring human in the public eye today.

The traitor deserves a fate worse than Hell.
I hope he suffers in agony for years.

That guy is much the reason that thousands of America’s finest lost their lives in a pointless war in Iraq.

I hope he suffers.

For me, this is not a Democrat vs Republican issue.
Bob Dole is also in the hospital, and I do not see any threads wishing him ill will.
