Former VP Cheney hospitalized, resting comfortably.

Sorry you can’t understand the concept. Water-boarding is something I would never authorize. However, I understand on a basic level that if I authorize something I should be willing to be subjected to such an authorization if the conditions apply to me.

Cheney authorized water-boarding to obtain the truth. Cheney has been proven to have lied to the constituents that gave him authority. Therefore, I have no moral problem with subjecting Cheney to the same tactics that he himself authorized and defended.

Again, sorry if you can’t understand the concept. Again, and again, if you are going to dish it out you have to be willing to take it.

Cheney is a despicable chicken-hawk. He gets no sympathy. He avoided military service and then turned around and made every effort to start an unprovoked war. How can anybody defend him at any level?

I didn’t want Timothy McVeigh dead because I thought that his death only hindered the opportunity for American citizens to get at the truth. I don’t want Cheney dead but I want the truth. If Cheney says water-boarding works then let’s test out his theory . . . on him. (Again, he’s basically such a coward that he’d roll over in a second. He not someone you would want to be in a foxhole with.)

Thank you for that. I don’t get the Mother Teresa hate either.

I vote we let its readers decide based on past statements made by you. Remember this?

How soon we forget.

What a crock of shit. It’s astonishing you don’t see the contradiction as big as a house there. You said you wanted to see Cheney waterboarded. So, you’re pro-waterboarding. Glad we cleared that up.

So, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth? That went out of fashion hundreds of years ago. Hadn’t you heard?

Nonsense. Someone here expressing wishful thinking that a SOB might be water boarded to get at the truth is not the same thing as ordering water boarding to get at the truth, and then having it carried out by minions. That kind of logic makes thinking about giving your boss a yelling at for yelling at others the same thing as actually yelling at your boss.

Even if waterboarding were undisputedly legal, which it is not, and routinely used, which it is not, that does not mean that actually doing it isn’t a betrayal of our constitutional system and basic human rights. Grousing that Cheney should be subject to this now arguably legal practice isn’t the same as doing it. It’s grousing. It would only be hypocritical if it were actually carried out.

Let’s not forget then, but instead retain his deeds as a historical example of things that can happen.

Those who do not learn from history…

I don’t hold with torture, “aggressive” interrogation, “enhanced” interrogation, or any other words people assign to it. I’m against it for ethical and pragmatic reasons. I think it’s both wrong and unreliable.

I love how all of you liberal douches talk about “waterboarding” as if it is a single thing. As if just saying that word conjures up only a single possible set of acts that all add up to “waterboarding.”

Have any of you actually read the reports you think show that “Cheney lied”? They describe in detail how each of the enhanced interrogation techniques were planned out–down to minute details. It’s not like the iterrogators just decided “let’s waterboard this motherfucker!” and then just made up the procedure as they went along.

No. Dick Cheney needs to be prosecuted for war crimes. Doing so posthumously won’t solve anything except the inevitable Republican presdential pardon the minute there’s a Republican in that office.

Of course not. I would not celebrate Cheney’s suffering because I felt I had to but because I wanted to. What’s your point?

You are just . . . very confused about how the US criminal justice system and life in general works. Please go slap your mother and every (any?) teacher you ever had.

You have something against the Pope?

Stop with the “liberal douches” thing. Even if Cheney has been completely honest all along, I would still be against this sort of “enhanced blah blah blah”. Let’s say it’s my official policy. There is nothing liberal or “douchy” about believing there is a certain right and wrong about things.

I suppose if they had used electric shocks to the genitals, or torn out fingernails, or methodically broke each individual bone in the hands (according to carefully planned procedures) that would be OK with you? So long as it was carefully detailed and planned out first of course. The “best” tortures are performed carefully. After all, you don’t want to kill the “subject”, at least not right away. That would be sloppy and ummmm unprofessional.

A bit of humor here, with the understanding that I grew up in New York…

Priests and nuns are supposed to be Irish, the Pope is supposed to be Italian.
It’s always been that way

Yes, that is a reasonable interpretation of my post. Oh wait, no, the opposite of that.

It wasn’t my list. I was responding to someone else’s roll call of evil. Notice how it was in quotes? Yeah.

If you’d like to provide for me a list of names of figures on the left who engineered and profited from an illegal and immoral war, who actively support racist policies and governments, who support sexist or homophobic positions as a matter of course and speak evil of anyone who isn’t a white, native born, cisgendered, heterosexual Christian American, I’ll be happy to hold forth on the depth of my scorn for them.

I’ll be over there ----> waiting.

And for the record, I’m a her, thanks.

And you should kick your mother in her tard-cannon, because she didn’t instill in you anything close to the proper set of skills to live in a society.

You seemed to take the position that water boarding was OK as long as it was planned out and not “spur of the moment”. Did I misread that?

Couldn’t that same “all due care” be applied to any “treatment” that someone decides is necessary? I don’t have to be water boarded to know it probably sucks, anymore than I have to set myself on fire to know it’s gonna suck. And what do you get anyway? A guy who will tell you anything he thinks you want to hear, just to make it stop. He’ll admit to anything, even if it’s not true. He’ll name names, even the wrong ones. It’s unreliable.

But stop with the “liberal douches”. I am sure there are plenty of Conservatives who share my distaste for the tactics being used.

Oh Bricktop is far too much of a coward to actually put up anything. He’ll just not post in this thread again so he can save his self-image and pretend he isn’t an empty ideologue.

Follow the thread. It’s been shown that Cheney lied. The time line that he used in his defense is a figment of someone’s imagination and has been disproven. It looks as though, due to that he is hospitalized and being intensely cared for, the facts of the recent revelation are being suppressed. Being seriously ill doesn’t absolve one from their crimes.

Would you feel sorry for Hitler when and if he was hunkered down in his bunker just because the allied forces were about to storm him and kill him?

At this point, I just want him to stop, to go away. He’s old, his heart is bad, he needs to just quit. Go back to Wyoming, or whatever state he calls home, and do whatever he does privately, quietly, and away from political power.
