Heh. Teddy also once referred to Sammy Sosa as “Sammy Soser.”

Is that a whoosh, or are you really unfamiliar with the Bawst’n accent?

Sure is a good thing she isn’t employed in a position that requires her to speak intelligently off-the-cuff on matters of great significance in a medium of extraordinary power or anything.

Well, since Jay Leno did it I guess Fox News can do it as many times as they like without losing credibility.
I’m just glad I’m not one of Obama’s Secret Service bodyguards. The headaches!

I’m confused by this. You seem to be in complete agreement with what was said in the quote you responded to:
… but hose statements contradict one another. The first one claims that her attempted humor missed the mark. The other that she did, in fact, think it funny.
Can you help me here? If you were registering agreement with the last line, is that just an opinion, or has she stated that it was 1) a joke and 2) a funny one?
I don’t see how they contradict one another(?). I was agreeing with QED’s stance and amplifying it with my own thoughts. I think she knew what she was saying and that she thought it was funny and that her apology was lame. I have little to no respect for the “talent” on most networks; I don’t consider Fox to have a news program at all. I think that as an anchor, she has a responsibility, if only to her other anchors, to choose her words with care and professionalism. She does not get a “pass” from me–no anchor would (well, maybe Peter Jennings might have, back in the day–but he wouldn’t have done this and if he somehow did, he would have immediately corrected himself and apologized).
I don’t think you can say she feels bad or knows it was lame or whatever. She said what she said. Her apology didn’t satisfy me, but as has been said, what else can she do now? (she could issue a real apology, but I’m sure she’s too cocksure to bother.)

I doubt another—or any—apology would suffice for some. Maybe you never attempted a joke, botched it, cringed and wish you could jump in the time machine and turn it back 90 seconds. Good for you.
But I don’t think you’re being fair here. First of all, she is not an anchor. She doesn’t even appear on Fox that often (as far as I know). In the clip, you see that she was a guest and that the gentleman was the host. Knowing that now, and since so much of your criticism was based on her being an anchor, I’m sure you now cut her considerably more slack.
As far as my post you responded to, I don’t see what is not clear. She did not tell the joke, and in its aftermath, opine that it was, indeed, funny. Of course, I may be wrong, in which case I’d appreciate you supplying a cite that shows her doing so.
And not that I think it’ll matter, but here is a little background on the unprofessional, talentless Ms. Trotta.
Certainly not worse than Ann Coulter. Which reminds me, is it still a douchebag if applied to a cloaca?

You could argue that with a resume like that, she definitely should have known better.

I’d say it’s a good thing that she not a stand-up comic or a talk show host. She’s no comic, and my guess is that she’ll be forever wary of venturing into that territory again. Thank goodness.

I think we should all know better. Especially those of us who are not comedians. Yet, pretty much all of us, even in light of incidents like these, will still attempt to be funny and botch it.

Well, that sure was worth the wait.
To me, the thing is the off-handedness of her remark. Yeah, off the cuff comment, without much thougt, kind of thing you might say around the water cooler when your are with a group of like-minded people. Which says to me, this is the kind of thing which is relatively normal to her, she didn’t have her automatic self-censor kick in, because it wasn’t needed.
She didn’t mistakenly make a joke. She made the joke. The only slip was the word ‘Osama’. She did not slip up and say “both, if we could” by accident.
She might have intended to say “boat in the hood”, possibly referencing a yacht or schooner drydocked at her modest estate in the Hamptons during her childhood.

Or a clitoris, which would make as much rational sense as what she actually said.
It’s a colorful political season, huh? Wonder what that’s supposed to mean.
FWIW, both Jay Leno and I have made the Osama/Obama slip. And I believe we both intend to vote for him. The latter, that is.

I’m sure you would both vote for Osama if you could.
Also, why do you hate America?

I agree it wasn’t but somehow this was on page one when I went to the Pit and so I didn’t check the date of the last post. Colour me confused.
I think that Sen. Kennedy’s congratulations for the home run race went to “Sammy Sooser” and “Mike McGwire”. So the boston accent doesn’t really absolve Ted.
I still chuckle over that.
