Frasier Denied an Emmy cause he's a Republican

Well I’ll have you know that William McKinley is nothing but a no-good, yellow-bellied JACKANAPE!

Not sure if this was supposed to be a woosh or not. But Jon Hamm hasn’t won an emmy. Almost every year he’s been eligible, so has Brian Cranston. The one year that Breaking Bad wasn’t eligible for Emmy consideration, Kyle Chandler won for Friday Night Lights.

Huzaah!
Well played, sir…very well played.

My mistake then, I only hear about how Mad Men cleans up at these things. Not so much a woosh as much as me just paying close to zero attention to the awards scene.

I enjoyed the first season and plan to watch the new season first ep tonight. I thought his acting was very good, and a complete change from his Frasier persona. I fully expected him to be nominated, and he likely will be in the next go around.

Are you being sarcastic or just pretending to be sarcastic?

What the heck does that have to do with it? Was there some burning need to drop that into the thread, or was it just kink-shaming?

Oh, great. Now we have Grammer Nazis!

He holds himself up as a victim for being a “Republican,” yet there are more skeletons in his closet that demonstrate unRepublican like conduct.

When I think of uber-conservative, I don’t think of Grammer. I think of divorce, substance abuse, and the things he’s done to wind up in the tabloids.

Yeah, Kelsey’s been blackballed from being nominated because of his politics.

And David Simon’s outspokenness for lefty causes is the primary reason actors, writers and directors associated with The Wire acquired that veritable Mount Everest of Emmy nominations…

I think he’s had children with some 5 different women, (maybe 2 of which he was actually married to at the time the kids were born) so his “Family Values” seem like they would synch up nicely with his fellow conservative Mel Gibson…

Isn’t Kelsey Grammer generally disliked amongst his fellow actors because he’s a self-important arrogant stuffed shirt? He was virtually playing himself in Frasier, and fell into the trap of believing his own press from that era.

If his contemporaries don’t like him, then they aren’t going to nominate him.

There’s the bizarre incident with his sex tape lawsuit. Grammer sued Seth Warshavsky (the porn guy who released the Pamela Anderson sex tape) to stop him releasing a private sex tape that featured Grammer and an unidentified woman, which Grammer said had been stolen from him. Warshavsky turned around and counter-sued Grammer, saying not only was he not planning on releasing Grammer’s sex tape but that he didn’t even have Grammer’s sex tape.

Both suits ended up getting dropped. At this point a lot of people were probably thinking Grammer had completely lost it and was suing people over imaginary sex tapes. But in an even more bizarre twist, Warshavsky then publicly admitted he did have a sex tape with Grammer in it - but it wasn’t the one Grammer had sued over.

Warshavsky said he did not plan on releasing this tape however (although he did release a tape of a professional porn actor “re-enacting” the sex tape) and the American legal system decided it wanted to stop having to think about Kelsey Grammer having sex.

Blergh! I just threw up in my mouth a little bit…

Is there evidence for this? The reference I’ve ever heard of was his difficulties with Shelley Long, who I believe also had a rep for being sort of arrogant and self important.

That said, even when he started talking openly of his politics, he never seemed to me to be that rabid a right winger to me – He campaigned for Rudy Giuliani and later for McCain, but both of these guys have traditionally been considered pretty moderate by modern Republican standards (not by mine, but I’ll own being a leftist).

But in the primaries this year he endorsed Michelle Bachman, and that falls way over the line separating reasonable conservatives from the wing nuts…

And of course it’s pretty nutty (not politically, just normal paranoid nutty) and yes, pretty arrogant to claim that the only possible reason you weren’t nominated one of the highest awards in dramatic acting award is your politics.

Grammer’s politics probably isn’t the reason why he’s being blackballed. Making pieces of shit like Fame and An American Carol probably is. He’s got a lot to atone for.

Unlike most of Hollywood.

And this is relevant to Emmies because…(although that said and to be fair, I’m amazed anyone in the general public still gives a flip about these idiotic “awards.” They’re all a joke IMO)

No clue about his show or his situation but I have known people who work in the biz and pretty much all agreed that most there are not just hard-core liberal but near nazi-like and quite hypocritical in detesting anyone who isn’t…God forbid (oops don’t say “God!”) you have conservative views on anything or actually claim to be a - gasp - Republican. If so you’re generally dismissed as an evil Bible-thumping KKK blah blah blah ad nauseum

Barf. Can’t we just drop a baby nuke on Hollywood? oops there I go with my Republican war-mongering

Where did you get this drek? Tiger Beat? :smack: Grammer was known for being wild and a drunk, but not a stuffed shirt at all.

Highest, really? I always thought an Emmy just meant you were the least sucky.

Well, he was quite the posterboy.

I just heard it from various vague places that painted a picture in my mind of who I thought he was; generally a difficult and demanding self-absorbed type. I may very well have gotten him wrong.
