I love them all but if all three are available chances are I will go with waffles most of the time.
You say all three are perfectly prepared. In that case, who cares? I’d be just as happy with any of them.
I voted “pancakes”, which, for me, are *crêpes *.
No cinnamon sugar? You monster. It’s de rigueur for both *crêpes *and pain perdu *chez moi *. Or Nutella for the crêpes.
Waffles, of course, get strawberries and cream.
The qualifier “prepared to perfection” is key. Pancakes are the easiest to get right, while IMHO, french toast is the most difficult. So I generally order pancakes due to their reliability, even while french toast at its best is tops.
I think FT is superior to pancakes because the egg coating prevents the bread from turning to mush like pancakes do.
If pecans were allowed, I’d choose waffles.
Waffles for me, but part of my preference may be nostalgia. Waffles were a very rare, very wonderful occurrence in my yout.
Even the sight of a waffle iron brings back pleasant memories.
It should also be noted, though, that I’ve never turned down a pancake or piece of french toast in my life.
mmm
I make some damned fine french toast, so french toast it is. Waffles are a distant second.
Definitely french toast with butter - I might put pure cane syrup on it but not that nasty maple stuff.
Waffles for the texture, French toast for the flavor. The texture wins for me, but best of all would be French toast made in a waffle iron.
I laugh at those who scorn waffles and love pancakes, or vice versa. Many places, the batter is essentially identical. I suppose the nooks and crannies of a waffle might make some difference.
This poll is funny to me because my childhood has produced a strong antipathy for all three. When I was young, my family ate a rotation of these three things every Saturday night for dinner. It was a cost-saving measure. To this day, I loathe most pancakes and waffles, and can accept french toast, but certainly don’t seek it out. The only exception I’ve found over the years is that Bob Evans Restaurants used to have buttermilk pancakes I kind of liked. I think it was cause they flavored them with vanilla.
Whenever my siblings know I’m coming to visit, the standing joke is to tell me that they will have one of the three ready for me as the first meal.
I want French toast with Maggi chili ketchup or hot and sweet ketchup. You can keep your syrup and butter.
If Belgian waffles topped with fresh fruit was an option, I’d have picked that.
Cooking in a waffle iron gives you a crispy outside and a tender inside. So eating a waffle is a different experience.
Waffles by a mile. Gotta have a little crunch with the sweet and buttery. Syrup applied as needed, not poured all over at the start.
Pancakes, with waffles a close second. Pancakes have to be just right though: Golden brown, fluffy inside, edges without the burnt little ring.
Never liked french toast: The batter they’re dipped in grosses me out. Waffle and pancake batter doesn’t do that to me.
Go figure.
Pancakes and waffles are about equal in my book. I don’t care for maple syrup on my eggs, though.
I prefer French toast at home.
I normally order pancakes at Dennys or IHop. Only because they make them so well. The short order cooks get more experience making pancakes.
French toast with butter and powdered sugar. Mmmmmm.
Let us not forget that each waffle has dozens of wonderful syrup and butter-containing reservoirs built in.
mmm
French toast is a meal unto itself. The other 2 are side dishes.
