French Toast, Pancakes, or Waffles?

I make some killer pancakes, so I’ll go with those. I like my wife’s waffles, and no that’s not a smutty reference. It took me 20 years to convince her that French toast needs an egg wash, not just beaten eggs, so that’s my third choice.

My favorite would be waffles and then it doesn’t really matter. It would depend on whether I’m in the mood for French toast or pancakes. I wouldn’t turn down any of them, though.

Pancakes with butter, please

OMG there’s a place in Austin serving chicken and waffles and the waffles have corn meal in them. Mmmm. (If you want to go there I’ll give you the name of the place if you’ll take me along.)

This is the shock of my life! How can pancakes not be far in the lead? Must be illegal aliens skewing the vote.

French toast. Its what I like and it fits the O.P.

Waffles are great, regular, Belgian with fruit or jam, savory with chicken and gravy – but the O.P. said: Just butter and syrup. Same story with pancakes – silver dollar, chocolate chip, whipped cream, ice cream on top – you name it.

But perfect french toast beats out perfect other things.

I had the best French Toast of my life at Forneau’s Oven in Nob Hill, SF.
It was made with their fresh current bread, and was so delicious I had it two days in a row.

French toast is disgusting to me. But I can’t stand eggs, and they are of course essential to French toast.

Make mine pancakes, please.

There is a mystical place (The Original Pancake house) that makes something they call “49’er Flapjacks.” These are without a doubt the most delicious pancakes ever invented, and I sometimes fiercely crave them, but a good French Toast still wins!

Does anybody jazz up the eggs when they make French toast? I usually season them with a little cinnamon, some nutmeg, and a dash of clove. Then I whisk in some brown sugar, and fry the soaked bread in butter.

Cinnamon and a touch of vanilla.

Vanilla, mmmmmmmmmmm! :o

Do NOT force me to make this choice, as I like all three very much.

But, if I absolutely HAD to choose, it would be pancakes. So voted.

Waffles for me. Done just right they are near perfect in taste and texture. Butter and maple syrup, please.

Agreed. I wanna change my vote.

French toast made from pancreas or thymus?

Oh hell, I’ll try it!

For me, pancakes come in 3rd. What’s first vs. second depends on the style of bread/batter/cooking method employed. Either waffles or french toast can be top notch.

If anyone stops at a LaQuinta hotel, there are waffles for (complimentary) breakfast; in Florida, they’re Mickey Mouse shaped, in Texas, they’re (of course) Texas shaped. Not TOO shabby, either.

Can’t we just pour some maple syrup on our lover’s privates and go from there?

Ew!

None of these really require sweet. For example, I’ve used both waffles and pancakes to make a breakfast sandwich with eggs and such.
