Fresh air and sunshine in the MMP

Glad I could help.
:dubious:

I may have to try that with the Mexican cocoa I have. I don’t suppose you could translate those amounts to weights, could you?

Afternoon all. Just got a call from the dry cleaners, my pants and King-Size comforter (which is going into storage until the weather cools again in 7 months or so) are ready. Took longer than usual as I asked them to repair a tear in the comforter and the lady who does their sewing was reluctant to work too long due to the virus. So in a bit I’ll dress and head down there.

nettie, like swampy, I drive back from the eye doctor with dilation and sunglasses. Know it’s not the best option, but I find if I look downward and keep from being direct in the sun I do OK. But thanks for worrying about us.

Hang in there all. I’m not on BP medication, but probably should be. We’ll see what the doc says next week.

FCM, I heard on the news (CNN) a Giant employee died in Merrylande. She got COVID at work in the store. She couldn’t take off when she started getting sick. Essential service job. I smell a big lawsuit from her family. Wonder how many other people got sick from her being sick? Terrrible precedent.

Baker, I’m so making those brownies.

We had 7-bean soup last night. Maybe leftovers tonight. If there’s enough.

Scary about the Lispronil. Big Wrek takes that. Gotta call his Doctor.

Back from the dry cleaners, everything is good (it ought to be, $52 gone). Also stopped at Walgreens, they had 12-packs of Pepsi for 3 for $9, that’s too good a bargain to pass up. Also ended up with two big bags of cheese balls (don’t know how, they just jumped right into my cart).

Home and in the mail was a check for $502.71 from something called the (ahem) Affected Investor Fund QSF Distribution Fund. According to their letter, one of the companies I have an annuity with was naughty and as part of the hand-slapping, I’m getting this money. Sent a note to my Edward Jones guy who manages this, just to be sure (I imagine you’ve all gotten checks that look ‘official’ and are nothing of the sort) but I think this looks legit–lots of lawyer-stuff.

So a fairly eventful afternoon on what I took to be a drowsy day.

And the canopy is done and installed!! Pic uploaded to FB. I had to change my original design slightly, but the modification was better than what I’d originally planned. Unfortunately, it won’t protect from afternoon sun. On the other hand, once all the trees leaf up, it should be shady enough. And I can always add an awning if necessary. Hmmmm…

In a little while, I’ll add the carrots and spuds to the pot roast pot and let them all cook. I’s hongree!

Daughter’s elderly cat may be on her last legs. SIL said she was walking around bumping into things. She’s 16, so she’s already exceeded the average lifespan. Poor Cleo. :frowning:

Beck, I bet you’re right about a lawsuit. I’m not big on suing, but this situation would have me thinking hard about it. It’s been years since I’ve been in our local Giant - they’re too pricey for my blood, plus Food Lion is lots closer.

Howdy! I also take Lisinopril. I ventured out to the pharmacy and the grocery store. Still no paper products at all. The dish washer soap and regular dish liquid were all but depleted. I managed to get most of what was on my list. I will say that wearing a mask is about the most uncomfortable thing ever. Plus it was hot.

I shall make pulled pork again since it was so good last time.

Everyone be safe.

Got up this morning feeling all energetic. Had a plan for the day to take care of some chores. Zested the oranges that my wife used to make juice and froze it. Made breakfast and cleaned up the dishes. Sat down for a brief respite, and saw a PM from my former daughter-in-law. She sent me a video of her and my son from many years ago of them doing a karaoke of “Light My Fire”. It hurt my heart to see him young and happy and in love, considering how badly it all ended, and it kind of took the starch out of my ambitions for the day.

After moping for awhile, I forced myself to get showered and dressed, and went outside to wash the RV and the car. I also waxed them. The energy burst helped clear my head of sad thoughts, as did the sun on my shoulders. Perhaps a long walk this afternoon will cap the day right. Funny how you think you’re long past the worst of things (it will be two years on June 1st) and then something brings it all right back to the surface in an instant.

Sorry for the downer.

Looks like we finished outside just in time. The sky has opened, and there have been t-boomers! More is promised overnight. It smells nice out there.

Smells good in here, too. All the veggies are in the pot roast, and I ladled out some of the broth to make gravy. Good supper ahead!

Just read an article on a cardiology site that said people taking Lisinipril and similar meds should continue to do so, as heart problems are a worse threat with the virus than the meds are. I’m not going to worry about it.

I cleaned the bathroom today, and took Gordie ofr a long ish wak. It’s National Beer Day, so Imma gonna have [del]one[/del] [del]a couple[/del]several.

If there’s only seven beans in the thing, I do not foresee leftovers.:p;)

My Daddy died several years ago on March12. I was preoccupied in the hospital. I noticed the date on my iPad and was immediately sad. I will never get over it. But it does get easier.
Of course losing a child is especially hard. So much promise is lost.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember your thread at the time. It was so heartbreaking.

I wish you peace and happy days to come.

Been cooking most of the day, which has always been my retreat and my therapy for most of my adult life. Thanks for the thoughts.

Speaking of which: Baker! I’m trying to make your brownie recipe, but it’s been in the oven for 40 minutes now and is still not done. Another five will probably do it. I added a shot of vanilla, some orange zest, and a handful of chopped walnuts.

I hope I got the amounts right.

Butter(7 ounces)(200g)
Sugar(10 ounces)(280 g)
3 eggs
cocoa powder(1.5 ounces)(42 g)
flour(3-3/8 ounces)(96 g)

Chefguy let me know how you like it. I’m surprised at the time, mine went to barely 30 minutes.

Howdy Y’all! I have had a most unproductive day. Seriously. Did not even do laundry. Just decided that today was the day to practice bein’ a veggie. Sometimes, it just needs to be.

None of us wish to associate with you, and your Mother dresses you in an unusual fashion. Gimme your lunch money!

peaches, it sounds like you need to round up all of the contrary old folks in your life and lock them up for the duration. :stuck_out_tongue:

baker, that sounds like a good brownie recipe. I have everything but the cocoa. I haven’t baked much of anything more complicated than quiche or muffins for a few years, so I don’t keep it around anymore.

Irked, came home, took Nelson out in time to play with the neighbor dogs for a bit. On the way home, I stopped and went to the walk up pharmacy window at Kroger for my new meter (I had purchased refill test strips a couple of weeks ago and didn’t realize that they had phased my old meter and the strips that went with it out). As promised, it was complimentary.

Excellent. But I gotta tell you that the orange zest, the vanilla, and the cinnamon in the Mexican cocoa mix really upped the game past any brownie I’ve eaten. My wife called it “elegant”, which is quite a compliment.

I should try the Mexican cocoa powder. And orange always goes well with chocolate.

A small food co-op that is alas, no more, had cans of a spicy cocoa powder, and I tried that once. Pretty good, tangy but not burning, the way I like it.

This recipe originally used unsweetened chocolate, in place of cocoa powder. But at my workplace I converted it to cocoa powder. Three tablespoons powder with one tablespoon butter. There was butter to begin with too. I think doing it this way allows for more variety of flavors, and eliminates the messy melting of unsweetened chocolate.

Urgh. Did manage to irk a full day, but locked myself out of a crucial system twice and had badge problems. The calls were nonstop. I’m not sure the queue ever got BELOW 100 waiting all day. Groceries are a PITA these days, and I’m starting to believe that the hoarder locusts have some sort of phobia that anyone else might possibly be able to lay hands on necessities, as diligently as they’re clearing disinfectants, paper goods, and now anything that can be turned into a mask.
