Rain last night and at least one rumble of thunder this morning - the weather guy warned of a cold front moving thru today. I think it’s supposed to be nice, but cooler, later. Hope so - RoxStar needs to get out and run off some energy or she’s a pill at bedtiime.
**shady **- no worries here about the kid turning into a manipulator - her mama teaches middle school. She doesn’t take sh*t from anyone! And we don’t tell Roxy she’s smart - we just say “Good job” when she does good.
**nellie **- my mom used to buy wine in big jugs, too, till they invented box o’wine. I think it was Christian Brothers brand, but it was so long ago, I can’t be sure. Anyway, now she will spring for cases to keep on hand. So last Christmas, we got her a wine club subscription - she gets 3 assorted bottles to try quarterly. Yep, that woman likes wine. I don’t think she’s a wino yet, tho. As far as I know, she doesn’t put the bottles in bags to drink.
**BooFae **- while I’m neither a podiatrist, nor do I play one on TV, I do know that stretches are often good for foot pains. While sitting around being a slug, you might try flexing and pointing your feet periodically. Plus if you attach feathers to your toes: cat toys!! I’m just coming out of several days of pain in my insteps, mainly because of all our construction work this weekend and the frequent trips up and down the slope to get tools and such. So happy stretching!
Supper tonight will be a couple of big racks of ribs. I think I’ll cook them in the smoker, sans smoke so I can leave it in the garage. I think it’ll use less power than the big oven, and I can leave them out there for a good long time so they’re falling apart. Plus we’ll have veggies of some sort. I know I have fungus in the fridge - maybe I’ll go get some cabbage… hmmmmm…
It was a rainy morning, but now the sun is out and shining.
Echo is having a fit this morning. Keeps running from door to window crying. I think she misses her friends.
Lily should be back Saturday
I’m pissed off at whoever the hell made the decision that liquor stores are essential and dog parks aren’t.
In the good news section of life, I got an email from my car insurance company saying I will be getting a discount on my bill because of not going anywhere in April and May.
Of course, I never go anywhere but the dog park and grocery store anyway, but I would never turn down a discount.
Easter dinner in the armpit has been cancelled, so I won’t be making that trip.
I need to do some laundry today, once the dishwasher gets done.
Nettie, I feel your pain, both in regards to idiot customers and noisy neighbors.
Red, getting my son a cheap phone is an option. I may call At&T today and see how much to add an account. I have lots of old phones around here that he could use, since he won’t be using it anyway. Or maybe add it to his tablet? At some point he will need one, although if he gets a job irking from home, he’ll probably use mine.
I have to call irk, I don’t know wtf is wrong with the system.
I got an email from GEICO saying all policies renewed between April and October will get a 15% discount. Ours comes up for renewal in July, so I’ve got that to look forward to.
I’ve had elephant mosh pits upstairs, too, so I do sympathize.
Decided to take an FMLA day, since DH reported feeling a bit unwell yesterday. I’m not exactly 100% myself (no, neither of us has symptoms consistent with COVID-19).
Afternoon. Bees all present and correct . I’m hoping it’s not just a fluke, but I got no aggro off them today, so hopefully I won’t have to stage a revolution and get a new queen in.
Very nice to get out in the countryside a bit and remind myself that the spring is happening out there, even if I don’t get to see it. Called in the supermarket on the way back as well, to get some essentials like ice cream and beer, plus some milk and fresh vegetables, I guess.
Also bought some duck aigs from the street stall by my bees, and am fighting the temptation to get an incubator to try hatch myself a little isolation buddy… If I lived somewhere that a) had a garden and b) didn’t ban pets, I’d be giving it a go…
Quick and productive run to Food Lion has been completed. Along with the stuff I wanted for supper tonight, I got some of the jumbo shrimps on sale, plus another 6-pack of paper towels. Still no TP to be had, but we’re fine in that department. I just look out of curiosity.
I saw an idiot woman there wearing a mask… over her chin. Mouth and nose were exposed, but her chin was safe, by golly! :smack:
Since being back, I packed some more chickie tits for the freezer, rubbed and started the ribs in the smoker, and made another batch of rotisserie rub (which I put on the ribs, even tho they’re not being rotissed. ) And I cleaned the broiler pan from last night’s burgers (just didn’t want to deal with it last night) and cleaned the sink. Go me!
SIL just put Roxy down for her nap, and I’m thinking I’ll make myself some lunch. And my mostly idle day yesterday was good for my feet - they’re feeling almost normal today. Yay! Sleeping with Mel probably helped, too.
Tested the sprinkler system for any ruptures or other problems this morning, then ran a full cycle for the first time this year. S’posed to hit 75 today, and the fleurs looked thirsty. Tons of tulips blooming along with the second round of daffodils. If this sort of weather keeps up, the dogwood tree will explode into color soon. Gotta love spring. Except for the pollen allergies, of course.
I’ve had no issue with pupil dilation and driving soon after (and I’ve had several appointments with dilation - it’s far from a one-time thing). I don’t even need sunglasses for it. The only time I would have needed a ride after was when they took pictures of my eye due to high blood pressure in the eye causing bleeding. I had to stare at a camera flash for WAY longer than anyone would be comfortable with. My eyes were watering so bad I absolutely needed a ride afterward.
Given this, I’m guessing an Achilles strain. Ice 2-3 times a day, NDAIDS of your preference and gentle stretching.
The best stretch is to put your leg back straight and lean into a wall or other support like this.
Hold for 20-30 sec. then slowly bend the knee. You should feel the stretch move into the Achilles. DO NOT STRETCH TO THE POINT OF PAIN.
Do not stretch by hanging the heels off a edge, not enough control.
These are also safe alternative stretches. 12
Happy Thorsday! Decided to mow the lawn yesterday afternoon instead of going to home depot, so I have to go there today, and then we may well head back over the hill this evening, or maybe tomorrow morning. We’re all wishy-washy about that.
While I was wandering around bimart yesterday, I passed by the TP isle and they had stock, (but no charmin), so I bought a 24 pack of quilted northern, just because. They had a few packs of some kind of TP at fred meyers too, but I didn’t buy any there. I went to freds 'cause bimart didn’t have any of the carpet cleaning powder (arm & hammer pet fresh*) and their shelf where it normally resides was absolutely bare as well. WTH? Are the hoarders hoarding carpet cleaning products now?? :smack:
Also those n95 masks aren’t at all comfortable to wear for an extended period. Plus also, I saw a number of people who just don’t get the concept of ‘social distancing’. Sometimes I wonder how the species has survived this long.
*After being away for a couple of weeks, when we returned to the ‘big house’ it smelled really doggy, so Wifey really wanted to clean the carpets.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, you should not look for recipes online. I remember languid summer afternoons when my mother would wear her cheerful yellow apron with the red and purple flowers on it while she poured the boiling water into the big green pyrex bowl into which she’d already emptied the contents of the gelatin dessert packet that she traded eggs that our chickens laid yesterday for. Those chickens had the free run of the side yard and clucked and pecked aimlessly all day long. Once she mixed the gelatin with her mother’s wooden spoon, she mixed in diced peaches that came from our trees that had been planted by my grandfather…
Some hospitals need to send a gentle warning to people before sending out bills. Especially people who just had heart surgery… Y’all sitting down? Able to handle a good startle?
The hospital billed my insurance just short of $317,000 for my ablation procedure.
Still waiting on the final settlement, but my share should be in the neighborhood of $2500.
Oh, goody! I found a bill for my USAA credit card! The good news is that it’s not due until the 12th. The bad news is that I don’t have any money until the 15th. I had to dip into my meagre savings.
Well, they’re alive, or at least one of them is, as I’ve been hearing someone drag furniture around. At least I think it’s furniture.Cue the Psycho soundtrack.
I’ve come to the firm conclusion that there are a LOT of people who just plain need to talk. I’m sure some of them want sympathy, too, as in “Don’t think I’m a bad person for having a pet I can’t keep.” But when you don’t have time to hear their life story, it must be very aggravating, especially when the phone’s blowing up with other people wanting to tell their life stories. Too bad there can’t be a dedicated phone line where an automated voice would say “Uh-huh,” and “Oh, that must be tough” every 15 seconds. Somebody invent that, wouldja?
And Gotti, I hear ya on the recipes. It’s like these people are saying, “OK, I’ll give you this recipe (which I actually got from an old Pillsbury Bake-Off cookbook), but first you’re going to have to pay for it first by reading my overblown drivel about my boring children, interspersed with 30 photos of this wondrous cobbler.” Just give me the stupid recipe, you torturous witch!
There. I feel better.
Wow, that’s quite a bill! Maybe the hospital thinks if they give you the huge number first, the portion you’ll have to pay will seem smaller.
FCM, my mom was thrilled when she discovered box wine.
I’m missing her. I used to call her on Good Friday because her religious beliefs and empathy were so deep, she always got depressed. I always made a note on Holy Thursday to remind myself. She’s been gone almost 10 years, but it doesn’t feel like it.
Afternoon all. Been a truly nothing day, internettin’ interspersed with nappage and reading. Nothing much in the mail (just annuity statements). Took the cheezeburger out of the refrigerator to finish thawing, then will grill it in a bit.
Tomorrow I will go to the place that has my lawnmower for servicing…they’ll have had it for one month then and yeah, they had a bunch stacked up and yeah, with the virus it’s been a mess, but a month is long enough.
gotti, been a long time since I got a hospital bill like that. Is it itemized? You can be rather surprised how much they charge for things there.
nut, glad the bees are well.
Everyone take care now. Back to readin’ and nappin’ and internettin’…
Toddlers are fun when they start figuring out the world.
The lil’wrekker singlehandedly changed my Daddy’s name from ‘Granddaddy’ to ‘Diddy’
She was the last grandchild. Her much older cousins referred to him as ‘Diddy’ from then on.
I enjoy your tales of Roxys goings on. She seems like a fun kid.
