FriarTed - you fucking hypocrite

The followers are putting their own baggage on their God. No good if you have to actually change, better option is to just cheery pick what you want to believe in so it generally fits with your way of life and then strap on the judgemental, arrogant blinders and you’re good to go. e.g. a lot of people are protestant because an English King couldn’t kind a wonam that would bear him a son.

And of course, still no retraction on your lies about Jews for Jesus. Fancy that, you, a shameless and unrepentant liar?

Yes yes, your Monster God will punish me for eternity, out of Love, if I do not bow down to a long dead Jew who lived in ancient Israel.

I realise that you like dick so in a way its flattering that you like me but sorry its just not my cup of tea.
As to being a general I never actually made it that high.

I know that you are desperate for my attention but you’re the wrong sex so this is the ONLY attention you’re going to get and I’m afraid not much more of that.

I dont like Kiddy Fiddlers whether or not they had loveless childhoods or they weren’t breast fed ,or whatever life shattering reasons that they have for being"Unable to control their urges"and they are "just as much victims as the children they abuse "and all the other P.C. tripe that is in vogue .

So I am quite happy to reiterate ,and even expand on my statement in the thread that triggered this one that is …

That I am more then happy to express physically my opinion on child molesters anywhere at any time and in any place, and that my opinion of them is that they are the lowest filth on Earth.

And if you dont like that then tough titty.

So you insult his sexual preference? Nice.

Actually that was a play on words but you were obviously wooshed.

If you check my previous you’ll find that I’m not Homophobic.
But I am “Wankerphobic” whatever the sexual orientation, sex, race, religion or dietary preferences are of the the Wanker concerned.
And I’m very much afraid that **Illuminatus Primus **most definitely falls into that category at Olympic Gold Medal winning standard.

So if you wish to rouse up all the pro Paedo philes against my position feel free to do so, but trying to turn this into a Gay versus L4L witchunt would be nothing more then a cheap trick.

Personally I think that this is nothing more then another piece of persecution against us incredibly good looking blokes by the rest of the world.
But I’ve got used to this over the years.
I’ve got broad shoulders,I can take it.

Frankly, around the SDMB the question of whether anyone is a hypocrite WRT his following of Christian doctrine is moot, because around the SDMB, anyone who says he is a Christian is a Christian, and however anyone wants to interpret Christian doctrine is as valid as how anyone else wants to interpret it. It is simply impossible to be wrong about it.

You said it. If it was a woosh I’m sure all the posters smarter than me will figure it out. Which would be damn near everybody. Could be some CYA for all I know. Hard lesson, being responsible for your statements. I make most of mine in RL so what would I know.

Coming from you that’s not much of insult - I’m pretty sure your judgement of character is pretty broken.

Whereas in reality, it’s impossible to be right—pure Christianity (as demonstrated by its inspiration) being so completely at odds with much of human nature. No Christian, save those few who are bonkers enough to live as ascetics or masochistic enough to tolerate a lifetime of exploitation by others—can quite measure up to the full code. Of necessity they pick and choose, discarding the most awkward, inconveniencing, and difficult maxims in favor of those which coincide uncannily with the beliefs they’d hold even if they’d never picked up a Bible. Et voilà,*** Christianity 2.0*** (now available on iTunes)!

In that respect, FriarTed is no more egregious than the rest of the self-sainted multitude. Which ought to instill fear, if not loathing.

I missed this in my previous answer - on that basis, then, Christian morality is pretty much “what I say it is”. If that’s the case how can you base any kind of social or legal code on it as it’s entirely nebulous? I agree with Vinyl Turnip that if it can mean anything you want it to then it effectively doesn’t mean anything.

And if all that is taken as read, it’s either impossible to be a hypocrite or impossible NOT to be one, depending on how you look at it.

I didn’t quite say that—in fact, I think one could construct a perfectly good belief system out of the tenets of Christianity, but it still won’t be exactly as Jesus taught.

Some do a passable job creating their ersatz faith, while others* can only manage a crude crayon-scribble replica.

  • Cf. Dominionists, “Prosperity Gospel” adherents, gleeful tongue-clucking apocalyptics, and James Dobson.

All I know is I try to avoid judging others. Most especially for being who they are. Being gay isn’t a disease. It is who you are. Hating on others, it seems to me is something that is taught to you and is something that most people engage in and furthermore, is what leads to one people, race, religion, really any group of people, singleing individuals out to be scorned or hated by others . One way or the other. Just because I won’t judge you is in no way a call for you to not judge others. My path is my own. Like I said before, you strike me as a man who has seen many things I’ll never see and I have no idea what it’s like to walk in your shoes. Be sure I have the utmost respect for you. I like to think I’m a Christian and advertise it on my person, but that doesn’t give me the right to enforce my opinion on others. It’s hard for me to put my feelings into words.

I’ll offer an example. The other day a woman, who all my coworkers called a transvestite, came into my work to purchase something. They had a grand time, talking about her (or him). I admonished them, saying what is your problem? That is one of the nicest women I’ve ever met? They told me, that was a GUY!!! A fucking tansvestite!!! I asked them, how do you know, and what of it? I can just tell, I was told. My response was who gives a flying rats ass? She was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I told them they could keep their fucked up opinions to themselves.

Gotta stop that shit. Costing me jobs like a motherfucker. With any luck luck I’ll die like a man and not like a bitch.

Thanks Omegaman, that’s a lovely sentiment.

I think I’d like to draw this thread to a close (well, my part in it at least). FriarTed and I exchanged PMs when I initially started this thread and I assured him it was nothing against him personally. As I’ve said this has been a pitting of hypocrisy, not of a person or even a particular religion. Of course that’s led people to throw counter-accusations of hypocrisy against me and predictably the old Satanist/Vampire rubric has been thrown in for good measure too. People will do that of course, and I personally think it’s a shame others feel the need to direct such hostility towards me based on names and not on what I actually believe, or who I am as a person (but such is life).

I guess what I’m saying is that I was probably too hasty to be acrimonious towards FriarTed, and even though ultimately I maintain that Christianity is a religion that today is pretty much nothing but hypocrisy, that’s still no reason to pour scorn on members of it who aren’t necessarily expressing that.

So, in short, my apologies to you FriarTed; I hope you accept them.

Lust4Life - you’re still a cunt.

I accept your apology, Illuminatiprimus, and also offer mine for playing the Satanist-Vampire-Illuminati card. We both make it way too easy sometimes for those who will to attack us.

Btw, also my thanks to those who spoke up for me, some of whom I did not expect. channeling Sally Fields Gee, you like me! You really like me!

Oooooooh Dear I seem to have hurt somebodys feelings just a little bit,as they say Hell Hath no Fury etc.

Still you’re improving,at least you worked up the courage to actually have a go directly at me this time instead of venting your rage and frustration on a third party.

I wonder how long you sat there sweating and farting before you nerved yourself up to actually type your intelligent and well thought out insult ?
Good job you kept it short though cos your nerve might well have failed at the last minute

I must admit that I have received better insults in my time but being honest they were from much more imaginative and braver people then yourself .
People that I disliked but at least respected.
I dont think that there are many people who hold you in this category do you?
Be honest now .

I’ve no doubt that you’d like to have this thread closed before I replied, bad luck.

I really, really hope that I dont get cursed by a bunch of Satanists or start having Vampires hovering around my doorstep,I fairly tremble with fear just thinking about it.

But I really must go now, bye, bye Oh Prince of Darkness.

And I’m sorry but you’re STILL the wrong sex for me to have any interest in you.

Live with it.

I thought you had respect for royalty?

And isn’t it a little early to be pissed?

Damned Health and Safety regulations prevent me achieving that state until much later on I’m afraid.

So you write like that when you’re sober? Fair enough.

They are out there, we just don’t hear about it - they are usually NOT the noisy ones.

You’re probably right.

But I also think that it’s a problem of doctrine and the polarity of our culture in the U.S. Here’s what Karen Armstrong says about it:

bold added

It’s that when people bring forth a reason-based argument in regards to religion, they’re often regarded as atheists, almost by definition. Sure, Christians are self-identified, so people like Karen Armstrong can claim that she’s Christian, but I’ve seen more atheists claim her quotes like the one above.

And there are people like Bishop John Shelby Spong who claim that they’re changing how Christianity is viewed, but he has received death threats from other Christians on his views and disclaimed by many mainstream Christian groups.

Or people like John Dominic Crossan, one of the founders of the Jesus Seminars, a group that studies the historical Jesus. Crossan calls himself Christian but realizes that many others wouldn’t do the same and debates with other Christians about that very fact.

So sure, there are people who self-identify as Christians who have reason-based views, but their views are often claimed not to be Christian by the mainstream of Christian culture.

I personally have not seen people who hold these views who have not also claimed agnosticism and decided to choose Chrisianity for things other than the doctrine. As I noted in my original post, it would be novel if I did. I see far too many people with views like FriarTed’s and not any like the ones linked in this post, who also claim Christianity.
