You don’t have to be. Part of the way ratings are determined is reported by select cable providers who tell Nielsen what channels subscribers tune into when.
Well, if Dish Network is included, then maybe I’m helping the show.
I don’t have time to investigate it tonight, but a commenter on one of the articles I found claims that both DirecTV and Dish network report ratings to someone. So, if that’s true…

I’m guessing that Hulu watchers are treated like the ugly stepchild of viewers when it comes to ratings? As much as I want the show to survive, I’m not going to buy a cable television package and re-schedule my life for any one show.
If Comcrap does this, they’re getting some very invalid data, as one of my cable boxes is only used to record shows to a VCR, and it can sit for days on the same channel, without ever actually being watched.
