Anyone have experience with Frontier Communications? I just learned they are buying out AT&T in CT. I know all phone/data/tv providers are bad and good. But I would appreciate hearing your horror stories.
I’ve had Frontier for almost two years- phone and internet, and Dish satellite TV through them. Every couple of months we’ve had to call for a repairman because of internet and phone problems. I don’t know if their lines are old or what, but they’re pretty good about coming out fairly quickly, within a couple of days at the most, and they sometimes fix it right then, and sometimes *think * they fix it but then have to come back out, sometimes several times. Eventually it does get fixed, though.
I don’t really have any horror stories, but a couple of bad experiences: one time a repairman called and said he was on his way, but he never showed up, never called back, and a few days later when I called the company, I learned that he had reported that he’d come out and fixed the problem, which never happened. Another time, I was on the phone with a tech for a couple of hours about the wifi on my computer. In the beginning of the call, I let him talk me into ordering a wifi extender. During the call, he updated our router and did a couple of other things, and by the end of the call, my wifi was much better. I did the online chat a few hours later and tried to cancel the extender, and was bounced back and forth between two different departments, each swearing up and down that it was the other department’s job to cancel the order. Then I called, and was told that someone had canceled the order, it was canceled for sure, yup, definitely canceled. Guess what came in the mail three days later?
Those are my experiences with them. Probably going to get about the same level of service regardless of who you have, IMO.
I thought this thread was going to be about the pony express and other ways that 19th century mid westerners learned about the goings on of their day.
“All my letters from Maw back East keep arriving out of order, which causes annoying ‘jitter’ problems. The Pony Express troubleshooter said he would be here in March or April, but didn’t show up until October. I’m seriously considering switching to smoke signals.”
I had Frontier in the early '90s, with spectacularly low long distance rates. I think at one point then they went into receivership.
I used to have Verizon (whom I never ever had a problem with) until Frontier bought out Verizon in my area. It was a sad, sad day. I have landline and DSL through them as they are my only choice without getting a dish. The ONLY good thing I have to say about them is that their phone reps and tech people are actually in the United States. If you have a problem it’ll take forever to get it fixed but at least you can understand the people who are giving you bad information.
My last problem was a couple of months ago when my internet speed dropped dramatically. The first person I talked to said, “Has anyone ever told you you live in a high demand area?” Which I took to mean they oversold the capabilities of their network where I live. Then I talked to a tech who…I don’t remember any more what he told me but he didn’t fix it. Then I was told someone would be out to check the neighborhood box on Friday. Things were no better so I called back again. They sent a guy out to my house check my wires and he replaced the router and everything was fine again. He was a good guy. And one person told me I was being given a $40 credit for my troubles but I never got it. Have fun.
Thank you everyone for your replies. I am dreading the change. Even though I am not a fan of AT&T I have not had any problems for years. Oh well.
I expect we’ll see more deals like this in the future. The phone companies (AT&T and Verizon, principally) view the landline business (especially the old-fashioned POTS lines) as a dying one.
I’ve just spent a week with their tech support reconnecting my service…still can’t get voice mail back. How do I reset password? Any ideas??
