The battle for the NL Wild Card is a real pants shit-er this year. Between the Giants and Cubs bouncing back and forth with the lead and the Astros right up both of their asses I can’t stand it.
If the Cubbies blow it this year I’m gonna fucking cry. I would LOVE to see the Cards and Cubs in the playoffs. Thats an Illinois boys dream. With the Cubs sweeping them of course.
Heh. The Cubs’ last 3 games are against Atlanta. The Braves are 1 game from clinching the NL East and will have nothing to play for against the Cubbies in that last series.
Oh, wait, that’s right - the Cubs knocked the Braves out in the NL Division series last year, didn’t they? The Braves pitching coach was quoted in today’s paper as saying “We’d like nothing better than to deny the Cubs a playoff spot. It’s payback time!”
Poor Cubbies. You guys had better not need to sweep those last three games!
I think we was banned from the continent. except for Florida, but no one wants to go there anyway. Shit, I don’t even like the bastard. I don’t like the Cubs, but I wanted a CHi/Bos World Series last year, after we got eliminated.
I don’t think that’s the case. You’ll piss it away in two. Though I will say a Giants/Dodgers postseason series would be an amazing thing to watch.
My 96 year old great-grandmother had to be watched over last season. She nearly
gave herself a fit when the Cubs lost the NLCS. She’s been cursing the TV of late
and it seems like she may not last the season. When the Cubs were going to the
NLCS, I cried that my Cubbies were finally going.
Yeah, being a Cubs fan is rough. Being a Cubs and Braves fan just hoovers. I get to
watch both teams get close and blow it.
The best thing that can be said is that Farnsworth is actually getting out of the situations he puts himself into. Last year he was doing great, but started out this year loading up the bags and then somehow getting out of it. After an injury, IIRC, he comes back and promptly starts the same thing, except not getting out of it. I think someone had the minor league talk with him because he still gets himself into situations (guys on the corners, no outs) and somehow manages to slide right out of it.
You said it yourself. The Cubs knocked the Braves out of the NL Division series last year. When the Braves were trying…they’re hardest. And I don’t think revenge overrides healthy and well rested players. Cox is an upset but smart manager.
That’s pretty much what we’re going to get over the next two weekends.
One or both of them will get to the post season depending on what happens. The Doggers are imploding and the Giants will benefit. This is my nightmare. I can barely watch. Do you think Barry will get any pitches in games that aren’t already a blowout?
Well, if they were anyone but the Bums, I’d say I respected them for usually pitching to Barry. However, with everything on line these six games, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was walked a lot, especially in the last series.
Just to be sure, since the Cards are #1 they play the WC winner in the playoffs correct?
For me seeing the Cards and Cubs in the playoffs against each other would be the big payoff. If the Cubs go to the series then I wanna see them play the sox though.
Ahhhhhh Yes. You wouldn’t want it too easy would you? It would be like playing a video game in god mode. All the excitement is gone. Ho-Hum. But we have a slight advantage with Houston’s clutch win last night. The Cubs now lead the wildcard by a half-game over San Fran. with Houston 2.5 back. The Cubs are only 1 game behind division leader LA. LA and San Fran. play each other 6 times in the next 10 days. That is good news for the Cubs. One of them must lose every night of that series. The ideal scenario is either LA or San Fran. winning all 6 games, then the Cubs are virtual shoe-ins. Even if the series goes 3-3, the Cubs should make it with a 6-4, 7-3 finish.
Correct. The #1 plays the WC winner in the first round…unless they’re in the same division. So if the Cubs win the WC, the Cards play the worst division winner. I hate this rule.
The team with the best record only plays the WC team if they are not in the same division. If the Cubs win the WC, they will not face the Cards in the first round.
It was the pitching coach, “Rockin” Leo Mazzone, who made the “payback time” quote but many the Braves players have said the same thing. We’ll clinch tonight or tomorrow and rest our starters for a few days. What better way to ramp back up for the playoffs than playing to keep the Cubs out?
I truely believe the Braves will be playing full bore those final 3 games.
I agree. They have been pretty good with him this year, but unless it’s going to walk a run in, I think they’ll do their damnedest to keep his hands tied. Even to the point of loading the bags and praying for a triple play. And I’ll scream at them for it, and probably scare my dogs. My son knows to go into the other room when there’s an LA game on these days. “Daddy, you’re too loud.”
