Why on earth do you take such offense? As broad brushes go, it was not all that broad. Hell, he gave the poster an option to fill in their own answer/explanation. Not many are willing to put that kind of care and craftsmanship into their broadbrushing and caketaking.
You are mistaken that people, in general, have a responsibility to guide ill people to care. I disagree. If I see a person who has a spear in their side, just walking down the street, I’m going to say something like, “Holy shit! You need to see a doctor RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!”
If they appear incapacitated or clearly in need of aid, I would call 911 and apply first aid as best as I could.
If they respond with hostility to my entreaty, then it isn’t my responsibility to cajole, convince, compel, or kidnap them to have them make the right decision.
asahi is apparently losing it - I’m not sure whether because of drink or mental illness - and the best anyone can do is point out the problem as s/he continues the spiral of nonsensical hostility that prevents any one of us from being more constructive. If anyone says, “Okay, crazy dude, you’re on your own!” then that isn’t hostility. That’s recognition of a fact.
But obstruction of justice needs to be investigated. There is ample reason to think a lot of leaders of the GOP congress helped cover up Trump’s crimes and that needs to be investigated by independent prosecutors.
Also we need to be honest that neo-fascism is on the rise and we need to do everything we can to defend our democracy from this threat. I don’t want the US to end up like Poland.
I’m frankly appalled at all the behind-closed-doors shenanigans in Republicritters’ offices late at night. I don’t have cites but you hear about this stuff on youtube anyway it’s about the bumpaddling.
In saying I object I suppose my point is not that I agree with BigT; I think only that the sentiment that folks shouldn’t pile on someone who’s clearly going through … something … is at least defensible. (Honestly I suspect Asahi is just drunk posting.)
But if you’re going to make that point, yeesh, cut down the damn verbiage. I don’t even read his posts unless other people quote him because it’s just not worth the effort — he could cut the word count down 90%, get his point across far more clearly, and probably not receive half the shit he does.
Yeah, I’m another one who split his time between ranting and transferring his 401k into bonds and stable assets. I have cut my losses for sure. If you think the market is still going down from here (I do), it is not too late to still cut your own losses.
What I am hoping we can do is drive the crazies into a sort of snarling, racist, fantasy-and-conspiracy believing minority, isolated by their own insulting behavior from the educated and informed. Then, we wise ones impose upon them a program of compassionate paternalism, policies that Fox and Limbaugh will rail bitterly against but which actually are best for the nation and the general population, instead of taking advantage of their ignorance for our own profit at theirs and all of our’s expense like the GOP currently does.
Problem is, what do we do with the crazies on our side? I’d rather not have to be painted with the same brush as the OP just because I happen to be anti-Trump. There’s a difference between not supporting the guy and having TDS.
Well, when the Titanic was sinking, some people went apeshit while others straightened their ties and played another song with the band. It is a matter of taste and disposition I guess.
Thing is, we can’t say for sure that the ship is actually sinking. To me it looks like a destructive shitshow, but not more. Not yet anyway
First, because I hate it when people get history wrong, nobody “went apeshit”. People were actually quite orderly during the sinking. There was no pushing, shoving, or anything like it. Unless you’re going by the movie, which I wouldn’t use as a scholarly source.
Second, running around like a chicken with its head cut off doesn’t exactly strike me as all that constructive. You’re free to disagree, of course.
Maybe not. He doesn’t seem to be a racist, a Nazi, a Klansman, a supporter of locking up children, a misogynist, a Dominionist, a “Sovereign citizen” (gubmint sux but gimme MINE), a supporter of presidential treason, or any of the other horse shit.
So, I’d say he’s no where NEAR as bad. Maybe he’s just tired of the nonstop shit show and the so called “people” who support it.
This. All of it. We need more (and real) investigations, and not JUST Trump and family. The whole damn party is SO complicit and SO invested in stopping Meuller, that it all screams “guilty as hell of the same things”. Graham, Nunez, Mcconnell, NRA, Stone, Cohen, Flynn, Zinke, Sessions, Rohrbacher, Ryan, Enquirer, etc etc et-fucking-cetera.
This “witch hunt” has already found LOTS of witches. There are MORE. Plus what’s happening at the state leve, where Trump can’t interfere as much (though he’ like to and wants Whtiaker to do for him).
