Game of Thrones 4.05 "The First Of His Name" 5/4/14 NO SPOILERS

Nitpick - Janos Slynt was Lord Commander of the City Guard (Gold Cloaks), not the King’s Guard. Although it’s not clear how he automatically moves into a leadership position as a relatively new member of the Night’s Watch.
Not to risk spoilers, but it’s also not clear what Littlefinger’s end game is by marrying into the Vale, assuming his eventual goal is to sit on the Iron Throne.

It’s another incremental step up, it certainly can’t hurt to rule one of the actual seven kingdoms if you want to rule all of them. Specially one of the few that has been relatively unharmed during the war.

All in all, pretty ballsy for Arya to say the Hound’s name in her nightly prayers.

If he marries Lysa, he’s Lord (Regent) of the Vale, isn’t he? And Sansa might still be the rightful ruler of Winterfell, or at least a way for him to get support from the people of the North.

I was wondering about the armor that The Hound was wearing. It makes sense to wear in combat, but I wonder how uncomfortable it must be to wear for an extended period, such as this long journey they are on.

She pretty much told him straight up she was going to kill him last season.

The court sword is more in line with what I picture Needle. It is definitely a rigid blade instead of the more flexible epee. I’ll have to go back and freeze-frame the scene, but it seemed to be a polygonal cross-section, of which one or all of the edges would typically be razor sharp.

So, not only is it great at thrusting, but also at slashing, though you’d get rather shallow cuts suitable more for dueling wounds instead of fatal wounds. I think it would be very effective across the sea in the hotter regions where heavy armor isn’t used, but like shown against the Hound, not much good against armor.

Ah, thank you. I couldn’t recall the details.

Why did The Hound get so mad when Arya stabbed him. The last thing he heard before going to sleep was Arya’s wish to kill him. Then he taunts her and practically begs her to stab him. I don’t understand why he was so surprised.

It probably hurt.

Really? Do you remember what episode? I don’t remember that, but that’s nice if so, since Sansa might feel comforted to know that at least one sibling remains alive.

You’re right. I forgot completely about this scene.

Good episode. I want more Brienne and Pod, though! Quite a bombshell about no Lannister gold dug up for the past three years. And Jon impaling the lead mutineer through the mouth, from behind, was pretty gnarly.

That’s what I was thinking. She has some time to kill, and some leadership skills to hone, until then.

It is known.

Of course. Because she has huge… tracts of (mountainous) land.

Her reference to “his whores” makes it clear that she knows Petyr, much as she lusts for him, is no shining knight. LOL for the Milhouse joke.

The Iron Bank guy in next week’s preview is the same actor who plays Mycroft on Sherlock, isn’t it?

Ew ew ew!

His rock-hard pecs are also an asset.

An interview with the director of the infamous Jaime/Cersei maybe-rape scene: ‘Game of Thrones’ Director on Controversial Scene: Jaime ‘Traumatized,’ Cersei ‘a Wreck’ (Q&A)

NYT - too much rape in GoT?: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/03/arts/television/for-game-of-thrones-rising-unease-over-rapes-recurring-role.html?action=click&contentCollection=Television&region=Footer&module=MoreInSection&pgtype=article

I like Margery playing dumb over becoming queen again at Cersei’s request.
“Oh…gosh… I reeally don’t know. Not until I talk to my fAA-ther” knowing full well that her father is a pushover to Tywin and pretty much anyone else and knows that Cersei also knows this.

How old is Margaery supposed to be? I assume she was older than Joffrey, who was a teenager. So perhaps in her early 20s, at most?

But in this episode, Margaery and Cersei seemed to be about the same age. Cersei is in her early 40s.

Margaery can’t be that old to be considered a suitable match for Tommen, who is a child. But she sure looked that old in this episode.

Now I really want to see the tywin/baelish scene and gauge his reaction to Arya.

On its own, it seems like he’s just blowing smoke. “I saw your mom recently oh and also your sister.”
If this whole thing was an elaborate ruse, he could be lying. Also, I could be wrong and he totally caught that that was Arya.

And then… never did anything with that information, left her as the cupbearer of one of his chief rivals, in a situation where she could get killed at any moment, and just kind of rode away? That just doesn’t seem like Littlefinger…

Didn’t he use the knowledge of Arya in the linked scene to try and convince Sansa to sail away with him?

True, but he could have lied just as easily. Him personally knowing that Arya was alive doesn’t effect the strength of his argument with Sansa, who is in no position to know one way or the other.

It’s not like Littlefinger would have had much trouble lying to Sansa should he have not known what Arya’s current status was.
