Game of Thrones 5.05 "Kill the Boy" 5/10/15 [Show Discussion]

Ah “rapey scrapey” vs “rapey stabby” - “The Lannisters send their regards”?

Yeah, Roose has shown signs of not being happy with the way Ramsay behaves. Having another heir on the wings is an implied threat.

Stannis has a magical sword. Light-bringer. From the first episode of the second season, when we meet Stannis and Melissandre. I don’t think it is literally a magic sword, but the red priestess certainly takes pains to make everyone believe that it is.

Beric Dondarrion had a magical sword that lit on fire.

Where’s Yara? Didn’t she leave the Iron Islands on a rescue mission to save Theon about a season ago?

Theon refused to go with her.

Last time we saw her, she and her men were leaving the Dreadfort after the abortive rescue attempt. She has apparently disowned Theon.

That’s the thing. If Theon’s own sister couldn’t snap him out of his brainwashed state, will Sansa be able to do so?

Oh yes. Completely forgot that. Ta.

The best thing about this season is that there hasn’t been any Bran/Hodor scenes. It is amazing, though, that there are so many storylines moving simultaneously that they can’t fit them all in a single episode. We had a week off from Kings Landing, Jamie & Bronn & the Sand Snakes, Arya & The Faceless Men.

I didn’t see this episode as boring at all – I thought it was riveting.

I think this is the first time we’ve heard any Westerosian poetry – or any art forms other than endless repetition of Maiden & the Bear or Rains of Castemere.

Me too (the LOL part, not the nazi).

One of the things I love about Trader Joe’s – the only store I know of that posts a sign that says “10 items or fewer”.

I think Sansa is more of a sister to him, and that will be what eventually flips him. If you recall, Theon didn’t even recognize his real sister when they first met after all those years and procceeded to feel her up during the horse ride. I fear that Sansa will unfortunately be subjected to the craziness of Ramsay and/or his girlfriend before Theon experiences his awakening.

With the numerous settings in GOT, does anyone know of a good map online that shows all of the places that we know so far? I searched for a bit but can’t find one that includes every place.

This is my fave. Use the controls to avoid spoilers

That’s how I picture it happening. Theon is too weak and submissive to stand up or do anything for himself. However, he’s probably more likely to stand up for someone else and sacrifice himself. A dive at Ramsey near an open window where they both plunge to their deaths would be nice.

It seems that every week someone posts something like “It was a slow episode but I can see the pieces being put in place for something big”. The pieces are forever being put in place. But we still watch it.

Seconded (on both counts).

I noticed that immediately. And then when I went to watch Silicon Valley on my DVR last night the recording started with a few seconds of the GOT ending credits, and I noticed/wondered about it again. Glad it wasn’t just me!

People are used to at worst season long plots, this is one entire work with one story. The pieces are going to be put in place until the last season, probably the last episode, if you don’t enjoy the ride then you are missing the point. Also, i don’t think a single episode has been “slow”.

I can see that. I do think that Sansa is probably going to have to endure some more abuse at Winterfell. However, I also think that her days being nothing but a hapless victim are over. One way or another, she’ll give as good as she gets from now on, or at least not take it lying down. Notice how she very obviously didn’t drink the toast at the Bolton dinner. She’s not afraid anymore, and she’s probably planning something.

My guess is that the wedding happens, Ramsey attempts to include Theon in the wedding night for maximum awkward, Sansa shivs Ramsey, Ramsey attacks Sansa, Theon sacrifices himself to kill Ramsey, Sansa runs off and lights the candle, gets extracted by Brianne and Pod. I can also see Sansa lighting the candle right before the wedding, planning to kill Ramsey on their wedding night.

Thanks! That is very helpful as I can now judge proximity much better. The show’s opening helps, but this is so much more detailed.
