You’d imagine she’d want to marry into a great house.
Martell: Extinct
Tyrell: Extinct
Baratheon: Extinct
Tully/Frey: Out of power/might all get murdered, no way in hell
Lannister: Might be on the downfall, plus I don’t see her marrying the guy that killed her dad.
Greyjoy: Made an alliance with the group without a male heir. Could marry Yara, but they’re a weak house.
Arryn: Intact army. Pliant ruler. Good possibility.
Stark: Assuming Jon is confirmed as a new ruler, this is interesting. They were calling him the king in the North, so it’s probably secessionist. I’m not sure Dany would be down with that. Their military and economic might are severely weakened too.
And they can’t have children, so it would be first and foremost a political union. If they decided to let Jon produce an heir with someone else, Dany would have at least taken every step to ensure that the Targaryen line survives.
Exactly. She knew Tommen wasn’t long for the world, even if she didn’t know the exact details. Cersei had already mourned for Tommen before she decided to nuke the Sept.
Two Lannisters are incestuous. The Targaryens made a family tradition out of it.
Considering all his political maneuverings and manipulations, I could see Littlefinger not knowing what to do with an enemy who can’t be negotiated with. He might still think it’s just the North being superstitious. He could use those superstitions, but I can imagine him not believing in the walkers until he sees them himself.
Also (call me a hopeless optimist) we could very well have ANOTHER book before the start of next season, yes? Which could be chock full of stuff to be revealed in later episodes.
Jon could show Littlefinger his stab wounds. There are at least two other people there that saw his dead body. One of which has a reputation for being level headed.
I confess that while I read the thread beforehand, I overlooked Shakester’s comment before sharing my wild speculation. It is only fair that when said speculation comes to pass Shakester shall receive all internet points that I would have claimed had I followed proper procedure.
Now that I think about it, is it clear who actually made all that wildfire? The stuff is supposed to be pretty hard to make, isn’t it? Did Qyburn make it all or are there other alchemists involved in the process?
GRRM was apparently trying to get it out before this season. My guess is that since he missed the deadline he said fuck it and slacked off. Plus football season is coming up. I bet he doesn’t have it out until the series is done.
The wildfire was still there from the time of the Mad King. He put hidden caches all around the city, and it would seem no one has been looking for them all these years, so they’re still around.
I kind of disagree. She did send her MountainZombie dude to block Tommen from going to the Sept, so apparently she thought to try to protect him from being blown up with the rest of the crowd. And if that’s true, I don’t think she would have known he’d kill himself.
I think Tommen was the most tragic character in this episode. He was never trained to rule (being the youngest kid), knew he was weak because of that but couldn’t learn fast enough. I think that as he watched the Sept explode, he realized that there were machinations going on in his court that he wasn’t privy to - something a king should never experience. Then realizing that he was nothing more than a figurehead, he felt he had nothing really to live for. At least this is how I read the situation, and it explains for me the matter of fact, unhesitating way he stepped out the window.
I figured he went in to cut her eyes out with his sword, “kill” her as much as he was killed, then Cersei would have her brought back as another zombie guard. But now that I think about it more, the pseudo-zombification probably wouldn’t make her loyal to Cersei; the Mountain was always loyal to her.
My take on that was straightforward: Qyburn is a maester (or close enough), and he’s Cersei’s guy. Now for the first time since he became Cersei’s guy, Cersei is actually queen. So of course she makes him her grand maester.
A more recent article suggests 13 episodes total: 7 next year, then 6 more the following year to finish it off.
