Some people are pointing out that in the final overhead shot of the wights marching south of the wall, they seem to form the Stark’s direwolf sigil. Screengrab and enhanced.
“We actually did a scene that clearly got cut, a short scene with Sansa where she knocks on Bran’s door and says, “I need your help,” or something along those lines. So basically, as far as I know, the story was that it suddenly occurred to Sansa that she had a huge CCTV department at her discretion and it might be a good idea to check with him first before she guts her own sister. So she goes to Bran, and Bran tells her everything she needs to know, and she’s like, “Oh, s—.””
So says Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran).
I imagined that very scene played out right after Littlefinger overplayed his hand with his “imagine the worst” spiel. It was when Sansa worked it all the way through and realized there were two people who wanted to be Lady (or Lord) of Winterfell and neither of them was Arya.
That’s the point, isn’t it? This trial by combat wasn’t about any doubt about the deed itself but its justification. There the brothers were undecided which is why they asked their god for the one truth that was hidden from them.
Basically, the Lord of Light declared that the Hound was justified because he followed an order of his prince. Of course, we know that Joffrey wasn’t actually the prince, and any god should have known that, so… was the order still justified? Well, the Lord of Light seems to think that the Hound’s belief in the rightfulness of the order is justification enough - which is a pretty understanding attitude for a god (that is, not demanding omniscience by the ignorant) and an also quite convenient one for worldy authorities - which makes it more and more plausible that the Lord of Light actually exists (lets not even mention his thing for killing children).
In case of Alliser & Co, there was neither any doubt about the deed nor its justification under the rules of the Brotherhood: the brothers had no right to assassinate their Commander. They were in the wrong.
As far as I can see, ordeal by battle only comes into play when there is doubt about guilt. This was true for Tyrion twice and the Hound for once in his life. Everyone else was guilty as charged - beyond doubt.
I’m actually glad that this scene wasn’t included.
All those Starks are still shown to be braindead (Bran included, unless he sabotaged the trip of the super friends deliberately). Why not allow them some growth (and by that I don’t mean super powers but maturation)? The Sansa-character has gone through all the traditional stages to finally confront her master, and yet she still needed divine intervention to come to a conclusion that she should have deduced from experience much sooner.
When will you all grow up?
If only all characters showed an inner journey as convincing as Cersei’s: we can all see why she is what she has become, what her strenghts are and her limits. She is the one show character, imo, that is very much improved compared to her analogue in the things that can not be mentioned here.
Of course. You’ll get no argument from me.
Hopefully indeed!
Interesting - thanks!
So what’s the over/under on Tyrion trying to get back in with his family by betraying Denaerys? Explains why Cersei didn’t kill him, how she knew Jaime was talking with him behind her back, how she knew to abandon Casterly Rock and why she told Jaime “you really are the stupidest Lannister”.
I don’t know. Somebody else suggested it and after that last episode, it’s looking a little less ridiculous the more I think about it.
I think Tyrion promised her something during that meeting where she didn’t kill him and pretended to change her mind. I’m unsure if Tyrion knows of her double cross or not. Maybe he promised he’d do what he could to make sure her (Cercei’s) child ascends just in case Dany wins the whole shebang. Which would make him concerned about Jon’s wonder sperm.
Something went down in that meeting that the show isn’t telling us.
Well, Dany is supposed to be betrayed one more time. Tyrion just might be it. Hope not, because if he does betray her he isn’t going to make it past Episode 8:02.
She didn’t kill Tyrion because the person with two giant dragons and a big army is right outside her city and wouldn’t take kindly. Cersei is often the queen of poor judgment but is at least lucid enough to delay revenge.
I’m not sure if this is in response to my straight-outta-my-ass speculation but if it is-- yeah. I agree. Doesn’t change what I said, though.
How do we know this?
Didn’t that vision thingy tell her this? Way back on Essos when the Chainmailfaced guys showed her King’s Landing covered with snow? ash? And they told her a lot of mumbo jumbo and then she burned the place down as she is wont to do. I don’t remember. Or the witch who purposely botched her childbirth, Drogo-saving. She told her crap too, only she hated Dany so whatever she said is worth not much.
Man, all these things were so many seasons ago! I barely remember what I saw in Beyond the Wall. Which is just as well as that was the worst episode in this whole series.
I thought it was only the woman with the goofy face mask that asked Jorah if he would betray her again. She asked the question but I don’t think it was a prophesy.
Yeah, I may be mixing things up with the goofy face mask (chainmailface), the Dorthraki mid-wife/nurse bitch and-- I looked it up-- The House of the Undying. Who told her about the Stallion Who Would Mount The World? Damned horny stallion.
So, while we’re on the topic, can somebody with a better memory than me summarize what other prophecies are still hanging out there unresolved? Obviously show-only stuff.
You and DrCube mostly, and yes, the rest of both your posts is a possibility.
Cersei’s child will not be born as the prophecy says 3 children.
Azor Ahai might be reincarnated. The prince that was promised might come. These two may or may not be the same person. As far as the specific signs of the prophecies, I won’t comment as I don’t remember which part is in the show or not. Dany and Jon are the most obvious candidates, but we could be surprised. I think if they are different, Jon is more of the latter and Dany the former.
She’s already had four.
One who didn’t live long enough to get a name or get an official burial.
Reddit says that Gendry might be Cercei eldest. Possible. She hated Robert enough to send away any of his children and loved her children enough to ensure they are cared for.
She tells Cat he died of a fever way back in season 1. I always thought she killed him but there is no proof of this.
