Game of Thrones: omnibus discussion thread based on knowledge of books (OPEN SPOILERS)

Or maybe a WNBA player.

Awww, man. That’s like forever away!

That’s why the reveal in Swords was so effective, I think. Selmy had been completely missing for an entire book, so nobody was looking for him to show up halfway around the world when he did.

Looking at photos of the series’ Barristan, I think it might work just to slap a beard and long hair on him. In my mind’s eye while reading, Selmy had a big white mustache, which makes the disguise value of a beard a lot smaller. A clean-shaven Selmy can hide behind a beard a lot better.

They could even make him keep his helmet on whenever we see him?

You really think people won’t notice the actor’s name in the credits? More to the point, do you think the internet won’t notice it?

I wasn’t talking about obsessives, like me. I was talking about normal viewers.

Or a shot-putter.

Even normal viewers wonder where they’ve seen an actor before.

Incidentally, I wonder if they’ll cast Ron Perlman in the next season. First of all, because Ron Perlman makes everything better, and second of all, because he and Martin used to work together (in Beauty and the Beast).

He’d make a great Craster.

I just finally got around to watching the last episode. That whore with Pycelle…she really gets around. Is it because a) she has some unexplained important role to play, or b) because they’re getting their money’s worth of an actress who’s willing to be naked much of the time?

Probably B. She is the only character I can think of so far that we’ve seen in this show that is 100% non-existent in the books.

Mostly B, but I think a little bit C too.

C is:

The books were written in the third person limited and so a lot of important plot and background exposition happens inside the perspective character’s head. They have to get this exposition into the show somehow so bring on Roz the exposition whore.

Or Strong Belwas. I could even see him as Stannis, although I think Mark Strong or Stanley Tucci would be a better fit.

Does anyone besides Renly and Yoren die in book 2?

Several. Most are minor characters, but a few are at least somewhat important (in the sense that we’ve gotten to know them a little due to their proximity to a POV character).

Funny - a typical HBO writer’s Game of Thrones thought process : http://regretfulmorning.com/2011/06/game-of-thrones/?utm_source=scribol&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=scribol

It’s pretty neat how everyone was so shocked by Eddard’s execution. My mother was watching the series and that almost made her quit. The Red Wedding is going to devastate people.

I just remember Commander Mormont too, who else?

Lord Beric Dondarrion. Repeatedly.

He dies in Storm of Swords, but near the beginning during the mutiny at Craster’s house. I just reread it to get ready for Dance with Dragons.
