Well, daylight brought a couple of interesting observations - 2 trees have fallen in the front yard. On just flopped over into a clear space about 50 feet or so from the house. The other clipped the gutter and is sitting against the house outside the front bedrooms. The gutter should be easily reattached and with 3 thicknesses of shingles, I don’t expect there’s any leak issues. But we’ll be firing up chain saws soon. When it melts. And warms up. And dries out.
Still snowing. I’m staying home. We’ll have some shoveling fun later. When the snow stops. That’s the plan.
I wish I had slept–bad night last night. Could not turn off my brain and I had an earworm (Elton John, if anyone cares).
FarmerChick–that is terrible! And what is he thinking? I do hope you have the bill of sale and all. She’s probably just (finally) hitting the realization that she is truly ill; getting the horse back won’t turn back time. It’s sad and all, but crikey.
It snowed about 2 inches here–not enough to even warrant notice, really. I’m a nurse today and a librarian tomorrow. Gah.
TH has canceled his trip to Canada to cut shrub next week. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. I refuse to say more, except to say that at least he canceled it.
Have a good Monday, all.
It is entirely too cold and wet outside. Not even any respectable ice. I dislike this end of the state.
My computer is now completely redone. The final driver has been installed and everything’s good to go. I took the computer expert out for Mexican food last night as payment.
morning all! Govt. is on two hour delay and liberal leave; I took advantage of the latter, so am sitting home, warm and toasty. I’m thinking of getting a second cup of coffee and going back to bed, though!
FarmerChick, sorry about that phone call; when will we see more pics of Willow, though? I had a big thing for horses when I was a girl, btw, so my inner 8 year old is extremely jealous!
Ooh yes, great OP, Doggio! Sounds like you had a fun road trip even if the 'Canes lost. And very glad that you made it home safe and sound. Better go get Gordie soon though; you just know he’s going to give you heck for leaving him behind, so be prepared.
Hugs for Rigs and for CutiePie.
My brain is still foggy … better get that caffeine. LOL Enjoy your Monday, esp. those of you at home. Oh yes and Moonie? Owwww! I have one piercing in each ear lobe - those are more than enough for me.
My work is officially closed today. So is SIL’s. Dunno about FCD’s, but he’s sleeping anyway.
Still snowing, so we won’t be doing any shoveling for a while. I tried a little, but it’s not worth it. I cleared the front steps, but they’re covered again. Gonna be lots of fun.
Mebbe I’ll get some knitting done. Gotta hem daughter’s dance pants. It never ends… <sigh>
Glad you it made home safe, doggio. Extra skritches for Gordie.
Awww, TerraHen, I’m so sorry about your Willow and her former owner. I agree with** rigs** that she’s probably having a hard time coming to terms with her illness. Also, Hen, the MMPs are like grocery shopping: never go in there hungry!
Coming soon on Outdoorsy Life TV: AxeMooooom! In this episode, daylight makes clear the true weight of the storm. Daaaaad gets all fired up while the furkiiiiids make a run for quieter corners.
In truth, I hope the damage is minimal and the clean up not too hard. I can’t remember if you have a wood burning stove or not, Moooom. Can this be next year’s firewood?
Atta girl, Pie. Keep on truckin’ (carefully)!
tarragon, if you’re thinking of crawling back into bed, I say…do iiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
Not much happening in Casa Jays this early in the morning. I’ll be making a pasta salad for mr.j to take to work with him next week for late night snacks. Lots of veggies and easy on the mayo. I thin it with a splash of milk to help it coat the pasta easier. One more month to go, when the kitchen staff will be back for the season and the boys won’t have to make their own meals.
I can’t believe a whole week has gone by and he’s off to work again. At least the wind warning is expected to end today and he won’t be driving the boat in it.
Still pouring rain here, though we need it badly as our reservoirs are seriously depleted. The reservoir for the Town of Tofino–in a coastal temperate rainforest-- ran out of water last summer. We had a very dry Autumn 08 and more snow than rain for Winter '08-09. We need it to pour rain for the next 2 months. D’ohhhhh! worry worry worry.
c.j - We have 2 fireplaces, but the trees are pines - not good firewood. We’ll just haul 'em to the county mulching facility and recycle them. However, it appears there are many downed branches from hardwoods, so we’ll get some firewood out of the deal. Eventually.
Just bloody cold here, no snow. I think. Trying to decide if staying home with a toddler is better than bundling up said toddler and going out into -14 weather with him, and walking around. And freezing.
Chilly here, but it wouldn’t be so bad if they would turn off the freakin’ air conditioner!!! Only my side of the office has it on. I’m freeeeeezing! Idjits.
The NHL Network is having a free preview week March 2-7 (*subject to availability).
I, for one, have an evil overload cable supplier so I haven’t yet been able to access it, but I would LOVE to be able to see games this week as the trade deadline closes.
We went snow shoeing on both Saturday and Sunday and it was fun, but my back’s sore now. I’m going to the chiropractor at 11:40. I’m glad I could get in. Back pain’s not fun and I’m tired and grumpy today.
I haven’t been by in a few weeks. Busy with school but doing well - highest grade in Physiology class! Got to get the Anatomy grade up from a B though.
I did not wander in the last MMP but it sounds… painful.
Dolores - A/C?? Are they freakin nuts?
We had snow yesterday. My son made a little 18" snowman because it’s about all they could muster from what we got but man it was fun.
I’ll take relatively mild cold with lots of snow over the frigid cold we’ve had the past few days, thankyouverymuch. This whole -25C with windchill crap has got to stop.
Sorry about the cold, Puggy… thing is, if we didn’t let it out, we’d probably be sitting at -40C by now.
Moonie, it’s not the initial owie that makes me flinch… I just happen to have sensitive skin which leads to some unhappy piercings, especially if they’re in contact with clothing - hence my lack of shiny bits anywhere below the neck other than the bellybutton piercing that is currently angry with me. So in my head, nipples = owowowowowowowow.
(I do love a boy with shiny bits, though… swoooooon)
criminey, you have kitchen staff for part of the year? Colour me jealous!
Tell me about it when you get two feet overnight and nothing closes down the next day except everything that was already closed since it was Christmas.
Hi guys. Just came back from my 14 year old’s annual physical.
The good news- he’s grown almost three inches (he has a growth delay that puts him about three years behind in growth) and he is definitely hitting puberty (growth delay also slowed that down)
The bad news- the ADD meds have suppressed his appetite so much that he’s lost weight. See above growth delay- not a good thing. So… we have to deal with that.
His ADD symptoms have improved so much and his mild depression is lifting, so we won’t stop the meds- we just need to adjust the nutritional/calorie density of the food he eats.
He’s a very healthy eater- no soda, rarely junk, love fruits and veggies. We raised the kids to listen to their bodies and not eat when they are not hungry- but now we have to encourage him to eat. Boost/Ensure may be in his future before bed.
Evening all. Nice OP doggio - too bad about the camera and lack of pics!
It is cold again here (well, relatively speaking, it’s cold). 14C/57F, with a high tomorrow of only 20C/68F and alternating “showers and rising dust haze”. Mmmmm - nice (not)! It’s March already - how about some nice, warm, dust-free, sit out in the sunshine kind of days, please!
Soapy, it’s good to hear that your son has finally got a growth spurt! I hope you can sort his diet out so his weight will keep pace with his height!
FarmBabe, that sucks about Willow. I hope her former owner can see sense about her!
