Game Remakes?

Red Baron. Just because I want the realistic clouds, the actual WWI stuff I can take or leave really.

A new Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri could potentially be my favorite thing ever. That said, the Colonization remake kinda fell flat (too revolution-centered, IMO), so I’m not sure it should be Firaxis’s next project.

Also, I think we’re due for another Oregon Trail game.

Why the hate for a perfectly good game platform that has the VERY GAME you yourself requested?

Bwuh? The first three Turok games were on the N64 and PC. Turok Evolution ended up on the PS2, Cube and Xbox. And the latest, just titled Turok, was on the PC, PS3 and 360.

I have both US versions of FF6(j)/FF3(a). The remake consisted of some very, very nice movies at the start of the game, some add-ons like a bestiary (I think that was all of the added playable content), and the translation was tweaked a little…and not always for the better. In other words, it had a new coat of paint. I was glad to be able to buy it, and I’m glad I’ve got it in my library. But I’d love to have a remake of FF6 which included movies for certain scenes in the game itself. The first meeting of Terra’s mother and father cries out to have a great movie, as does the opera scene. I’d like some spoken dialogue (come on, don’t you want to hear Ultros speak?), and have the graphics changed from the old 8 bit chibi style to a more modern, more realistic style. I’d like the option to swap characters in and out of the battle lineup, as FFX did.

Don’t get me wrong. FF6 is one of the best games of all time, no question. I think, though, that it could be reworked, and the game could be repackaged and sold, and perhaps the gamer could have the option of playing the original 8 bit version, or the newer shinier version.

No hate for the platform, just hate for the makers of the platform.

I didn’t realize it also was out on PS3 (don’t have one, don’t want one) or PC (I have a Mac and I don’t really like to even boot up Windows unless I need to do some AutoCAD work).

I was hoping that they would give a nod to Turok’s origins by putting out a Wii version, but the devs said they have no plans to do so.

Now, when is the next version of F-Zero due? Or Rush 2049? Or Hydro Thunder? ( I like racing games. )

System Shock should get a proper remake. Bioshock, while a fine game, wasn’t quite the same.

Okay. That makes sense. Except for the “more realistic style” for the characters. That makes me cry. They’re FF characters. They’re supposed to be stylized, darnit!

The characters were stylized in the SNES games because that’s all that the SNES could support. In FF7 and later, they became much less stylized and much more realistic, although in the case of FF7 the realism was mostly in the movies. In the actual game, the characters still were rather blocky, but they weren’t chibi style any more.

I’d enjoy having the option of playing with the old version or a more realistic updated version. The chibi style wasn’t used because that’s what the designers wanted. I’ve seen books of the original artwork (but didn’t buy them) and the game designers wanted a very realistic look, not a chibi style. One of the reasons I love FF8 is because the characters are much more realistic. FFX had beautiful character designs, though I hated most of the characters’ personalities.
