You get paid strictly in sausages.
That’s a very valid point.
Recruit applies to the Army because, although there are individual recruiters, they are part of an organizational effort.
The Craigslist guys are acting alone, and I agree that “solicit” is a much better term.
Because he has no facts.
There’s also that whole Ellen Degeneres/toaster oven thing.
Bricker: A person who signs up for the Army probably wouldn’t, if he had not enlisted, later go out and start shooting people (or repairing aqueducts, for that matter) of his own accord. That’s the difference. The guy who answers the Craigslist ad, as you say, is likely not completely straight to begin with. The experience doesn’t change him, it changes his understanding of himself, and because orientation is so fundamental to human nature, odds are good he’d have figured it out eventually anyway.
You’re completely right that there are gay guys who have a thing for straight (looking/acting/mostly living) guys. Even if they manage to get someone who is truly straight into a sexual situation, it’s either just an anomaly or rape. Since experiences can’t make you gay, you can’t recruit gays in this way.

is the little-seen “licking-my-eyebrows” smiley. A distant cousin to the smiley, although not seen on this board.
Along with this guy – :o – they’re definately advancing the Agenda, though.
Yeah, but they come with gravy…
I’d like to know more about the opportunities for advancement.
For example, the Navy has the “Seaman to Admiral” program. Do you have anything comparable?
If there’s one things I cants stands it them
homosexual recruiting telemarketers. They call me every night around suppertime. They even try to trick me by just confirming my mailing address to turn me teh gay.
Similar, it’s the seaman to rear admiral program.
We also have excellent opportunities for translators, instructors etc, basically those with high aptitude in oral skills.
Bear in mind that just like the military, we require a full physical exam prior to admission.

I think it is, because, among some other reasons, I think your analogy is weak. When I go to an Army recruiter, or a job recruiter, they’re trying to get me to join their organization. If I’m recruited into the Army, I’m now a member of the Army, am working to further the Army’s goals, etc. So I’m thinking that’s not the best analogy to use.
There’s a segment of the population out there with black hair. There are also companies out there that sell hair dye which will turn your hair black, and people do dye their hair. But we don’t say that the dye companies are recruiting people to be black haired, because once you’ve dyed your hair, even though you become a segment of the population with black hair, you’re not actually joining anything. There’s no organization, no ideology…there’s no entity of “black haired people” the way that the Army or a corporation is an entity. It’s a classification instead of an entity. Likewise, “gay people” is a classification. It’s a group that has one defining characteristic, sexual attraction to the same sex, without anything beyond that.
Hmmm. I still read Ms. Magazine, went to two liberal arts colleges, and have a liberal arts degree. This is going to come as a terrible shock to the gentleman I’m seeing tonight! Then again, if I haven’t “fallen gay” in 20 years, I doubt I’ll get around to it in the next few hours. I do have work to do
Like others around here I suspect that what some people mean by “recruiting” is encouraging gay and bi-sexual people to think that they’re not disgusting, perverted, hell-bound scum. If that’s the case, I’ll happily sign up as a recruiter!
Hitting on straight guys is “recruiting?” Isn’t there an implied assumption in such an argument that straight guys can be converted simply by being propositioned? If they’re really straight, there’s no danger of being enticed, is there? And if they are enticed, then they’re not really all that straight. This kind of thinking just makes me think that some guys are projecting a little bit. “Those tricksy, sexy queers keep trying to recruit me. Make them stop before I yield to temptation.” Dude, if you’re tempted, you’re already there.
Even if some guys do give in to their “bi-curiosity,” so what? How does that make them victims? Why is that bad thing?
How many women try to convert or “cure” gay men, by the way? Does that count as recruitment as well?
The pay sucks, but the uniforms are fabulous.
As to soliciting “straight” guys, there’s a reason we now use the term “men who have sex with men” rather than “gay” when assessing for HIV risks. There are plenty of people who consider themselves straight, or like to pretend they’re straight, but engage in same-sex sexual behavior. For some it’s a problem, and for some it’s a role play. I mean, Craigslist also solicits for “bad girls who need a spanking,” and while some of those girls may indeed be bad, some just wanna have fun.
What I find the most amusing is the rather high number of guys that post on craigslist looking for sex with a guy, claiming to be straight, but their ‘girlfriend’ just happens to be out of town…I tell ya, those girlfriends travel a LOT!
Because there are still many people in decision-making power positions who feel that portraying homosexuality in any positive light whatsoever is a bad thing. They feel that it is, in every way possible to measure it, wrong. A guy asks a straight guy out? Wrong. Straight guy says yes? Also wrong. But the gay guy started it.
I haven’t heard about this. Is it some sort of program where Ellen sends you a toaster every time you successfully enlist a new gay?
As well as straight men who do the same thing to gay women.
On the episode of her show where she came out, a lesbian character actually originated the now-long-running joke about getting a toaster oven if she converts just one more person (Ellen). That’s IIRC…
Yes, the old anti-fag hag is still alive. I read her book where she states “Since homosexuals cannot reproduce naturally, they have to recruit our children.” I can’t begin to tell you what is wrong with that statement.
I thgouht ti was the seaman to the poop deck
Only after it’s been completely scrubbed though. That skill must be mastered before promotion is considered.
