Some background - There is a long exchange on a women’s basketball board about Sheryl Swoopes’ recent coming out as a lesbian. One poster stated that he’d no longer attend games due to this deviant influence. Other posters have taken him to task, and one quoted a biblical passage in which Christ has the radial notion that one should love others. This is what Mr. Promiskeeper wrote in response:
You have chosen to take "God is Love. He who abides in love abides in God, and God in him" out of the bible, what happens to the rest of the Bible, it doesnt line up with your own liberal thinking and so it is just cast aside as something man has written, I would guess this is the case. Please give me your definition of “love”. I would suppose that your definition means that God should let anyone and everyone do whatever they want because He “loves” them. If you have any children I would suppose that you love them in that way too. You let them run into busy intersections, you let them stick hair pins into wall receptacles and at the tender age of 5 years old you let them watch XXX rated movies, because you LOVE them, right? Well sorry to bust your bubble but the God of the bible was not only a compasionate, merciful, forgiving God, He is also a RIGHTEOUS God, perfect in every way. He has set up guidelines, just as I am sure you have with your children because He LOVES us so much that He would rather not see us destroy our lives doing things that HE knows will do just that. As a matter of fact God loved us so much that He let His only Son die to pay the price for our sin. Doubt very seriously your kind of love agrees with Gods kind of Love. And by the way I do Love Sheryl, I love her so much that I cant agree with the lifestyle that she leads, because it is destructive, why is it destructive…because Gods word say… “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death”. Sheryls sin will lead to death. But of course I am sure this is one of the passages of the bible you are chosing not to believe.
Pot, meet Mr. Kettle. Kettle, I give you Mr. Pot.
I have no words, really, to describe how terribly hypocritical I find it that person one is picking and chosing one specific bible passage to discredit another person who has done the same. BUT I do know that this sanctimonious ass-wipe needs a good pitting.
By a curious coincidence, I saw something very like that. Watching the kids for a friend who had purchased a box full of tapes at a garage sale, Disney stuff, so on and so forth. A gaggle of crumb snatchers, aged 5-7 rummaged through them, squabbling over what to watch first, and found one without a label, popped it in, and bingo! In flagrante delicious I was in the next room and was moving to intercede toot sweet but my curiosity got the better of me. What would happen, I wondered.
Not much. “Ewwwww!” from one munchkin.
“Thats how babies are made!” from another.
“Really?” asked a third
“Yep, my Mom told me.”
“Hey, look! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!”
“Cool!”
End of corruption of little minds. Hard to corrupt people who aren’t interested.
Employing time honored methods of distraction (“Cookies in the kitchen!”), I withdrew the tape in question. So far as I can tell, long term destructive effects were at a minimum.
Good job elucidater, now that you didn’t impress upon the tykes the pure evilness of the human reproductive function, those kids are destined to life of a decadence, debauchery, perversion, death-worship, and possibly even liberalism. Who taught you to take care of kids, Susan Smith?
I can just see the marriage counselling sessions in 20 years -
“He wants me to dress up in a bright green costume and karate chop him. I just can’t understand why?”
If this guy is JUST NOW worried about the lesbian factor in the WNBA, well, maybe you can drive him insane by pointing out the preponderance of “out” players and (gasp!) executives in the league.
Seriously, he’s been going to games and just NOW noticed?
My experience is that people quoting one Bible verse out of context around here, as you’re so joyously bitching about, are usually doing it to show how stupid it is to quote Bible verses out of context. That wouldn’t be hypocritical - it’d just be over your head.
