And the auction has been restarted yet again! Just to make things even sillier, it’s got a starting price of $100,000, and a “buy me now” price of half a million!!

No bids on the website but he is accepting bids by email. I suspect that this is to stop the trolls from ruining the auction. No idea if it’ll work but I’m betting that’s why he’s set it up this way. No way he expects to clear 100,000 on the gun.
No, his fans are both fuckheads and poor. I expect a “serious” winning bid of $3k, on which the winner defaults.

He’s using his actual e-mail address in the auction? Oh yeah, that’ll stop the trolling.
If his actual email address is gmzfirearm@gmail.com then you may be right. Doesn’t sound like it to me. His website ( if you can call it that ) is gmz.com so I’m betting he created a gmail address specifically to sell the gun thus gmzFIREARM at gmail. But, props to him if he actually uses gmzfirearm@gmail.com as his primary email. That’s pretty edgy for a guy who is majorly hated for his use of a firearm.
He might get some from Freepers.
If people were submitting fake bids on the website there’s nothing to stop them from sending fake bids by e-mail. And since Zimmerman wants to accept actual bids by e-mail he’s going to have to read trough all the messages to find them.
If he’s doing this to avoid trolling, I don’t see the point.

I may be wrong but I would bet at an auction site, you would need to wait until the auction actually closed and then you start weeding them out top down, one at a time. This would be pretty time intensive waiting for a reply from Goofy McCrackhead but if you don’t and he ends up being a real person and the highest bidder, that’s not so good.
By email, he can start emailing his offers the minute they come in and sell the gun to the first person to make a bid he likes.
Plus, far less trolls are going to troll someone by email. No one sees it so the payoff just isn’t there for a true troll. You can’t even know that your trolling was even seen. You’ll get the rabid anti Zimmerman guys but there can’t be that many of them. It’s been years and it isn’t dominating the news cycle. He’s yesterday’s news, literally. You certainly won’t get any pile on trolls trying to top each other either.
Also, no one is even bidding on this current auction so I’m betting the fervor has already died down.
On the other hand flooding someone’s mailbox to piss them off is as old as I am, and I’m too damn old. It’s not even like it takes much effort, either - again, there have been scripts and ways to do this automagically since 1994.
Since Weedlord Bonerhitler was in I expect either Reddit or 4chan are having their fun. They’ll blow up his e-mail server like it’s the 4th of July.
So, they’re going to crash googles gmail servers? I highly doubt that. Like I said, the email address gmzfirearm@gmail.com is likely only to be used for this purpose. I just don’t see the trolls causing any more inconvenience than him having to weed through them which he has to do no matter where he tries to sell the gun. Plus, to find this email address they would have to first go to the auction site and not one person has yet left a bid on the site. If the trolls are going there why zero disruption on the site?
