From what I’m gathering, pineapples was not a currently registered user. So, that leaves two likely scenarios:
a.) previously banned poster
b.) former guest whose account had expired
Maybe Can of Pineapples was Kaitlyn’s sock so she could take the seemingly easier way out by being outed by someone else as a liar rather than firstly admitting it in her own thread…

Probably for the same reason that people didn’t just turn their backs on Deep Throat. It doesn’t much matter if the source of the information is anonymous, as long as the information is accurate. This information is accurate, complete with cites of Kaitlyn/Number6’s own words.
I wouldn’t have posted it under my own name had it been me who figured this whole thing out. I would’ve immediately assumed that was a fast way to banning.
It seemed unbelievable from the beginning, but that’s not something you go and call someone a liar on without really good proof. The saint of a principal who defends the trannsexual elementary school teacher with fervor, and the wife who just calmly accepts that her husband is changing sexes and decides that she can deal with a lesbian relationship after all…
Even the idea that a nearly 40 year old white man who lives in texas would know an 18 year old Filipino well enough to be bringing her to Texas and marrying her seems odd unless she is a mail-order bride. I’m not convinced the wife ever existed at all.

They can do that if they know who the person was. However, with the clever use of proxy servers or other means of obtaining a different IP from your regular one, it becomes more difficult. Especially if the sock registered with some anonymous email address.
I figure the ‘truth to it’ came from the stories of other transsexuals which they posted on the Web.
That’s what I’m thinking, too. How hard would it be to go to various transgender web sites and forums and pull information from there?
IIRC, “Kaitlyn” appeared right after another long time Doper admitted to being a MtF. (Johanna, I believe). Perhaps NumberSix, bored with his life, saw all the attention she was getting and thought he’d jump on the bandwagon?

Look, if you have information that another poster is trolling- and in the mod’s opinions, creating a false identity to garner sympathy and support is a form of trolling- you will not be banned for bringing that information to light.
Heck, I expect that half the reason I was allowed to become a Mod was because I managed to out someone who was using multiple user names to troll the board in this exact way.

I regret to see that you live in such constant fear of banning. Chin up lady! Let me assure you that your fears are unfounded. Aside from obvious spammers, posters don’t get banned at the first offense. And if you’re afraid that your post will break board rules, you always have the option of checking with a moderator via e-mail first before posting it.
Ehh. I would have. I saw it over in the anonblog. There are a couple of reasons I didn’t.
1: I’ve never really interacted with Kaitlyn, so there was no personal interest.
2:I didn’t feel like spending the time reaserching all the links posted, I wouldn’t post something like that without verifying it.
3:I don’t care all that much.
4:Actually, 3 pretty much covers it.
Forgot to say - in the case of Deep Throat (the Watergate informant, not the movie) I would have applauded the person’s courage if he had reported the problem publicly saying “Something’s rotten here, I’m giving the information to the courts and the media, if I have to be fired for it so be it.”
Not from Kaitlyn/NumberSix. From the administration. Who has accused me of making ‘hate speech’ for a personal insult returned to one person just because she happens to be transsexual.
I learned how well that goes when I said something that was directed at one individual and was warned that if I ever said any ‘hate speech’ like that about a transsexual again I’d be out of here.

I don’t know what you’re refusing to believe here. Are you refusing to believe that posters don’t get banned for a first offense? I think you have the perfect example in your case. You were warned but not banned, right?
Are you refusing to believe that it’s possible to e-mail a moderator? E-mail on the internet has been around for a long time. I use it every day. Trust me, it works.
Or are you refusing to believe that if you e-mail a moderator ahead of time that can avoid problems? Do you mean that you asked via e-mail first to have your personal insult approved, it was approved by a moderator, but then after you posted it on the board another moderator warned you about “hate speech”?

Hypothetical question: you receive an e-mail from a board member that contains the information posted by CoP. In your best estimation, what would have ensued?
This is just my opinion here, but I find it suspicious that someone spent all that time researching Six’s posts and then either created a sock themselves or had someone else do the dirty work for them.
I could be wrong, but it doesn’t seem as though the sock was attempting to do justice here-that they were attempting to smear Six. Otherwise I don’t see why an email to a mod or admin wouldn’t have been the course of action taken-especially if this was done by a regular.
I mean, when someone is banned, the admins/mods write up a description on why the banning has occured-with appropriate links and what not.
This ‘outing’ was done in an improper fashion, IMO. Also, I wouldn’t give the admins/mods too hard a time about it because we should also keep in mind that we don’t know who the sock was or who the sock was ‘socking’ for. Perhaps there are other issues here below the surface.
In any event, just my 2 3/4 cents.
Warned for hate speech, for crying out loud. I didn’t make any hate speech. I threw an insult at one person. And I was told that if it happens again, I’m out of here. For something that I didn’t even do.
But you don’t care that I didn’t do what I was warned for. It’s still a mark against me, right? I learned. You don’t say anything bad about a transsexual here even if it’s entirely personal and not based on the fact that they are transsexual.
I mean that TVeblen owes me an apology. I shouldn’t have to have a personal insult approved to make sure they might not offend the person they’re aimed at. And I shouldn’t be accused of hate speech for saying something bad about one person.

Wow, a guy steps away from this thread for a day and all hell breaks loose! It took me a good half-hour just to catch up on the three or four pages of high drama that occurred in the last 24 hours.
I entered the thread originally to point out to paulbeserker that he is a tosser, but given all that’s transpired, i have to conclude that…he’s still a tosser. Anyone who thinks the discovery of Kaitlyn’s deception somehow vindicates the OP is deluded.
I was also amazed to discover that some people apparently don’t have the intelligence—even after multiple painstaking, small-word explanations—to understand the different levels of mod/admin discussion and consultation required for banning a guest and banning a charter member. And the fact that some people believed that the whole thing constituted some sort of “emergency” is even more difficult to fathom.
Of course, the fact that milroyj failed to comprehend such a basic concept is unsurprising, but that wring also doesn’t get it was, i admit, rather a shock.
If Can of Pineapples was indeed a regular Doper member posting as a sock, then that Doper is a coward. Yes, i’m talking to you, whoever you are. The funny thing is, when i read the post that exposed Kaitlytn’s lies, i actually had quite a bit of admiration for the sleuthing and effort that went into it, but that was all undone by the method of exposure.
