Getting up in the world in the MMP

Up early this morning to ride before the heat hits today. I altered my route a bit and added a half mile. I got home in time to make sure Spike and Squeaky got on the bus. Squeaky has decided to forgo using his locker for some reason (it’s located centrally to three of his classes), and is trudging around looking like Quasimodo.

I pulled two big ol’ zucchinis from the garden yesterday and made zucchini bread last night. Yum. I toasted up two slices for breakfast.

Swampy, it sounds like getting the pecan pie was a gross error in judgement, and as your friend, I will gladly take it off your hands.

Happy Hump Day!

It’s a muggy 75 degrees outside. Going to be hot today.

I got the brats off to daycare. My son wanted to get breakfast out so we stopped at Roy Roger’s on the way home.

Sad to say, if I find a spider in the tub, it is going to be either cooked or drowned.
I have no patience or tolerance for invaders.
I’d say my space, my rules, but we all know that’s a lie.

My neighbors moved out Sunday.
Every time I put my dogs outside, they run to the fence looking for them.

I have a lot to do today.
Same as every day.

What’s this watering of the lawn nonsense? I’m happy if I don’t have to mow, plus most of my lawn sits atop the septic leach field, so even in droughts it stays green.

There’s a boat on Deadliest Catch called Southern Wind. That name always makes me think it’s a euphemism for ‘fart’.

Both upstairs bathrooms are now clean, and the floors are drying. I’m about to empty the kitchen and give that floor a going-over. The basement bathroom will be easy since the shower hasn’t been used in eons. Then, who knows? I do need to run to Food Lion.

Ah, the exciting life of a retiree…

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s cool here and cloudy, forecast is just a bit “meh” so not expecting anything dramatic. Might rain, might not. Might brighten up, might not.

My day has been full of icky jobs that I didn’t really want to tackle but really should. Since I’m on leave next week, I need to get some things started, and then I can happily leave them all for someone else to deal with while I’m off not thinking about irk. So far, I’ve done a few things off my list and still have two more days to deal with the rest.

I had a final bit of paperwork for mum’s estate in the mail this morning so I’ve signed that and will trot down to the post office tomorrow to send it back again. I had to put it in a bigger envelope than usual so I need to get it weighed to make sure I pay the right postage. Oh, the woe of it all. I also got a notification in writing that one of the cats needs his booster shots, and a demand that I pay my car tax too. Both of those can wait until I get back from my travels as neither is due before the end of the month.

Vango and shoe - sorry to hear you’re both not in a happy place, hope things pick up for you both very soon. We’re always here if you need us to come and sit in the corner with you.

Nut rental properties are quite variable around here, you’ll probably find the better ones are in studentville and would happily provide a fridge and oven but of questionable quality! There’s also a lot of completely unfurnished rental property around too, just the bare walls and doors.

Right…hump day today that means finishing early and going out with my friends for a quiet night in the pub.

Mi Esposa is flabbergasted. Yesterday she received a bill from the VA. She called them this morning, and it turns out it’s for her copays… dating back to 2018. She’s flabbergasted because they’re just now billing her.

Happy Hump Day, Mumpers!

The weather here is getting cooler, but that isn’t a relief. Just means that it doesn’t get much cooler at night. My a/c kicked on at 5am this morning. We are also getting a ton of humidity. Not Georgia Hell-hole humidity, but high for a desert in SoCal.

Last day of prep before students arrive tomorrow morning. My “seniors” are developmentally still sophomores, so classes should be “interesting” until they get up to speed and let their natural maturity take over. To that end, I papered over the number on the Chrome cart they put in my room yesterday. Something tells me that Cart #69 would lead to…titters, at the very least.

My drinking group of teachers already have a session laid on for tomorrow night. First Day stories go better with beer!

Stay safe and healthy, people! We need you!

It’s getting warmer out here. Looks like it will be a mite toasty for the next three days.

Replace the numbers with LXIX - at least then you’ll figure out who the sharp ones are!

My next call just might be to my Congresscritter, just for the hell of it. That’s just insane!!!

Back from Food Lion and setting up FCD’s PT for Sept. I’m lunching before I decide whether the basement bathroom really needs to be cleaned or not. I should run the vacuum down there, tho. I’ll be wrangling Roxy the next 2 days so my daughter can have quiet time in her classroom to prep for her classes this year. Last year she taught pre-Algebra, but this year, she’s got Alg 1 & 2, so she’ll need different lesson plans. Plus she’s got Yearbook - it’s an elective class rather than an extracurricular. This is her first time doing it, but she’s on really good terms with the teacher who had it last year, so she’s not too worried.

Anyway, I’ll have the toddler while she plans, so I need to at least start with a relatively clean basement.

I just got an out of the blue facebook friend request from someone I dated for about 6 months 30 years ago. Answer or no?

Now, onward! Supposed to get up to 90 with humidity putting the “real feel” at over 100, so not mowing the lawn today. I’ll stay in the AC and try to finish up some drawers for a client. Much melamine edge banding to come. Let’s see if I can go an afternoon using a razor knife and not slash my fingers.

That…is a GREAT idea!

What the heck - I say yes. Nice thing about FB - if you change your mind, you just unfriend and that’s that.

Would you expect anything less from me?

And the weather continues. Last night (Tuesday) it stormed by me, nothing out of the ordinary. The barn, which is 10 miles straight west, lost power and is still without power today. This morning the sky was black as the ace of spades and it stormed. Now it’s cloudy and there is a heat advisory warning. I’m so done with summer.

It’s starting to look like I don’t owe the IRS anything. Fingers crossed. I’m still in PJ’s owing to financial phone calls, but I’m about to dress and head to the gym before the heat really hits. Then I get to go to the dentist. Yes, a fun-filled day here in Nellieville. Actually, here’s a bright note: maintenance is washing the windows today. I do love me a clean window!

flyboy, yikes on getting hit with all those copays at once. I hope the total wasn’t too high. I once got a hospital bill from an ER visit 3 years earlier (no bills in between). Their explanation was “sometimes these things just float around the system for awhile.” Sounds like the VA has the same system.

Oh, lockers are uncool, as I bet quietly can attest. The HS where I taught took them out about 8 years ago because kids had quit using them. I got a chuckle out of the “Quasimodo” line–so apt! I called them The Chiropractic Generation.

Speaking of quietly, good luck tomorrow! I miss hearing those first day stories. I love that you covered the cart #. Wise man!

FCD, good luck to your daughter. I’m sure she’ll do brilliantly. Yearbook is something most of us tried to dodge, but in a school with that few students, I’m guessing it wouldn’t be too bad. Plus, if she’s as capable and efficient as her mama, it’s in the bag.

The bill was for a bit over $400. Had they billed her each time, she wouldn’t have had a problem; but she’s chuffed that she’s getting them all at once.

You’ve definitely earned a honey whiskey, nellie! I hope you hear back soon.

Whether mom has COVID or not is still up in the air. She was feeling mildly better yesterday afternoon, so they told her to stay home and not go in for a test. Fingers crossed for a cold.

Overlyboy stayed home from cross country this morning. He’s not used to more intense sports that require lots of running, so going from minimal activity to “let’s run for two hours” was hard on his knees and calves, even after some ibuprofen. I guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings. I’m tempted to give overlygirl a hall pass for soccer, too. One of the girls’ dads tested positive for COVID last week and the parents were gracious enough to keep her home, but they seem to plan to send her today. It’ll be 100F today - maybe it’s a better day to go to the pool instead. Can you guys tell I’m trying to rationalize a way to do absolutely nothing today but lay by the pool?

So the Amazon 53 footer full of loose stuff was the wrong one. We had several thousand pieces of Prime/Post Office stuff running through the hub, gumming things up. I have a feeling somebody at Da Jungle probably got promoted to customer. :grimacing:

Flyboy, ouch. I second calling the Congresscritter.

I didn’t use mine in high school, either.(Class of '89)

Just finished stuffing 2 peppers with the leftovers from last week’s stuffed peppers. And I tidied the kitchen and ran a rinse load in the dishwasher. I think it’s time to assume the recliner position for a bit.

Got a message yesterday that my test Sonday was negative. Apparently Wifey is the only one in the family to catch it. Anyway, she’s feeling better, but tired all the time. I think I’m going back to the valley Firday anywhichway.

I lurves me some pee-kahn pie! But they don’t put enough pee-kahns in 'em these days (at least the so-called pie makers out here in the wilderness). Iffen I want a good’en I gots to make it myself.
I had an aunt once who somehow managed to get a layer of chocolate into the bottom of her pee-kahn pies. It was good too. I was never able to reproduce that, even after she told me how.

40 mph ain’t much of a hurry-cane. Jest sayin’

The electrician just came to replace 2 of our breakers. The ones for the washer and dryer we relocated to the basement. We were using the old ones in the mean time, but they were the wrong size.
Now back to tearing out the closet. It’s like a puzzle. Which piece did they put on last?, 'cause it’ll come apart easier if that’s the piece I take out next. Whoever built this closet used a lot of pieces. And a lot of nails.
