Getting up in the world in the MMP

Hmmmm … Wherever did you learn that phrase?

I managed to sucker a Mumper into giving me her address and filled a priority envelope with some of my stash and sent it off to her. I brought a couple more envelopes home with me, so now when I’m going through my stash and find kits that I know I’ll never do, I can just put them in an envelope and send them off. She’s young, she might have time to complete them all, LOL!

Now that I’ve accomplished something today, I will spend the rest of it stitching or playing with kitten. Retirement rocks!

Oh, crap - a tropical storm that begins with “F”! Raleigh is doomed!

I’ve had a slight change of plan as it appears someone has decided to give me a chunk of money, so I don’t have to worry about getting a job, so I’m looking closer to the uni to minimise commuting time to there- which is, just to confuse everyone else- more rural… So not many choices.

You know all the times I said irk was slooooow? Well, I wish I could have saved up some of that time- it’s all gone busybusybusy, and the person I normally irk with, due to all the sloooooow, has booked the rest of this week off. Eep.

Wednesday is normally the busiest day of the week, so hopefully the next two days will be less chaotic.

If this flat on Saturday doesn’t work out, I’ll have to book some time off to go look at other places, because apparently everywhere only does viewings Monday-Friday.

Huh, is this another cross-pond linguistic difference? Over here, ‘chuffed’ generally means all happy about something, and that doesn’t sound like the sort of thing that would leave me chuffed at all. Peeved or cheesed off maybe, but not chuffed.

Just got back from picking up groceries.
What a mess out there!
At least the sky waited until we were in the truck to open up, my truck was rocking from the wind.
We had to wait a bit before they brought the groceries out, everything would have been soaked.
It ended as quickly as it started.

I only found out about some doctor bills when I tried to buy my house. A bunch of bills were sent to the wrong address, the collections stuff went to the wrong address, the court papers went to the wrong address. By the time I found out, I had a judgement against me and it was way too late to submit them. Annoying.
Expensive lesson learned, check your credit report on a regular basis.

Afternoon all. Have just awakened from the nap, combine a long, hot bath with lying on the bed solving crossword puzzles and nappage occurs. Not to long today, so should sleep well tonight.

Proud owner of some new Size 3 practice soccer balls and a few other bits and pieces, along with paper and pens and stickers, all told I ran through about $250 in just over an hour…which is a good reason to stay home.

flyboy, now I’m worried I’ll get hit with copays from 2019 or so from my Drs. Office. Hope it goes ok. And I agree with Nut, chuffed doesn’t mean what you think it means…at least from the English perspective.

nellie, fingers crossed that you can prove to the IRS you don’t owe anything, which they will recognize in, oh, 3-4 years…

talky, sports in 100F heat are never a great idea, at least without numerous breaks for hydration. And lying by the pool all day needs no rationalization…it is simply the nature of things.

I used to use my locker (class of 71) for jackets and books (who wants to haul around Algebra, History, and English books all day?).

Good luck on the housing search, Nut

OK, back to soccer-arranging.

Sorry, I meant ‘chapped’, as in ‘It chaps her hide.’ That’s what I get for trying to post when I’m working.

Gads, my office connection is slow!

Anyway, I just called Ben Bridge. The woman helping me talked to her boss this morning, and he said removing the bracelet and sending it in is totally do-able. The catch is, they’re not allowed to remove it. I’ll have to take it off myself.

Yesterday I got the storm that merely threatened JaneDoe42: thunder, lightning, BIG wind, rain chucking it down, etc. I lost power at 5:25pm, and it didn’t come back on until 6:10 this morning; a total of nearly 13 hours. The area around me had a lot of downed branches and power lines. A few hours ago I went to the grocery store — to replace everything that had been in my fridge, including the groceries that had just been delivered yesterday morning {sigh} — and there were still roads closed and traffic lights out. Big ol’ mess. We just had another respectable thunderstorm (power stayed on! woot!) come through, and there might be another on the way later. Everything I have is all charged up again, and I have extra batteries, so hopefully the worst case would be having to replace everything in the fridge again (if the power stays off for more than 4 hours).

Unsurprisingly, I didn’t sleep well last night. Even with the windows open and a battery-powered fan blowing on me it was hot/humid, and the distant sounds through the open windows were distracting. And when the power came back on it woke me up, way earlier than usual (and I’d had trouble falling asleep). My brain was pretty mushy today. I had a followup with my podiatrist at 2:30 (the nail-less toe is healing well! yay!), and I decided to take the rest of the afternoon off work before I started making stupid mistakes (or yelling at stupid people).

I will likely turn in on the early side tonight…

Boooooooo. I’m glad you can send it in sans bracelet. I bet it’s some kind of CYA policy, where they don’t want the watch falling off your wrist and you blaming them because the clasp was working perfectly until you had repairs done…blah blah blah.

unknown, your needlework stash sounds as big (albeit, not quite as old) as my papercraft stash.

magic, I carried a morning class and an afternoon class bookbag when I was in HS (class of '81) because my locker was close to the bus exit, but not any of my classes.

sari, when my former neighbors moved, Nelson wanted to go visit Kobe and Snoop until about a month after the new people moved in (3 months total) and he got to know their pooch.

flytrap, I just accepted that about two years after any hospitalization, I will get a bill that slipped through the cracks, or worse yet, have it go into collections. The healthcare system in the US is bonkers.

Irked, got aggravated at both some of the subscribers and my trainer (subs using half a roll of duct tape and the trainer answering questions but not the ones I asked). Walked Nelson, et and am fixing to do KP.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

People wonder why I am so bitchy

I have sent the mortgage company my bank statements for the last three months 4 times.
FOUR times.
Three times as attachments and once through their system that connects directly to my bank.
I just sent them for the fourth Sunday. Along with the requested note that I do NOT have a business account because I am NOT a business.
It was a long note, explaining that I do NOT have to be licensed, bonded, or insured. I do NOT have an EIN, I file taxes under my own SSN. I do NOT have a profit and loss statement because there are NO losses. I have only one expense, which is a dedicated landline. The only way I can lose money is if I didn’t irk for an entire month and I would lose the cost of the land line.
Today as I am driving home from picking up the dogs, I get a call from the mortgage company.
I let it go because I was driving.

Come in, check my emails, and what do I have?
A request from the mortgage company for May, June, and July statements from my business account.

I typed up a response, but decided it is probably better I don’t send it.
I’ll take out the snark in the morning.
Maybe.
This is a nationwide well-known company, not some little company nobody has ever heard of.

well I pulled a good one day before yesterday

Ok, We pay all of our bills online, and let’s just say it’s not a happy occasion, and between the usual arguments and unpleasantness about how much we owe and who owes who on what … sometimes I get distracted and my aunt gets in a hurry, Well I paid off a card we didn’t have the money to pay off and the account was overdrawn and its a slight mess due to the fact the owner of the amazon card wouldn’t just put the money back in the account minus the original payment

They have to send a check to the house which can take between 1-2 weeks to get here …

So aunt had to take money out of the cash she has for the new place we need to find and when and if the check gets here shell put it back ,

So the mood here is a bit surly as you can well imagine …

Since I was thinking of watches, I pulled out my grandfathers Gruen ‘tank’ watch. It’s missing the crown and stem. I found a watch guy in Portland and sent him a picture. He said it would cost between $600 and $700 for repair/overhaul/refinish. Oh, well. Back into the box. :frowning:

Thanks for the kind words, Mumpers. I wish I could meet y’all. You keep me going, day to day.

In weather news, it is absolutely POURING here in western Mitten State. Thunder and lighting and the whole bit.

… so of course, the cats are begging to be let out. Silly kitties.

I read that as cosplays.

I don’t know where my head is today. I feel like I’ve been scattered all day.

We had some thunders this evening, but no raindrops. Dammit. I may have to water tomorrow.

But the rest of tonight is for chillage.

FCD got his work situation sorted… or at least he thinks so. He’ll retire someday, I guess.

Up from naptime. Making slow cooker chicken in the left over sauce and cheese tortellini.

If I had a Ruble for every time I heard that pharse.

“F” named storms and Raleigh. Do. Not. Play. Well. Together.

Yay! The dentist didn’t find anything wrong with the tooth that’s been bothering me a little, and man, did they look. I’m just going to keep an eye on it. The tech said my gums and bones are in good shape. Always nice to know the flossing, brushing, and water-pikking (Is TOO a word. Ask @swampbear. He’s the equivalent of Webster’s around here. )

I took Uber over there, but as I was leaving, I had one of those dare-myself moments, so I walked home, 3.5 miles, in 90º heat. I kept to shady areas and made it fine, but I am hot and tired.

Should any of you have excess rain, please box it up and send to

Department of Dust

Parched Creek, WA

We haven’t had any in over two months.

shoe, glad you’re doing some better.

shady, sorry you’re dealing with such a hassle. Hope it smooths out soonest.

Sari, four times is three too many. Is there any way you could send them to a particular person at the bank while you’re on the phone with them? I had to do that once, though not with a bank. Hope they straighten up and fly right soon.

Ummm, you’re doing the grandma thing backwards. You make it clean after they go home. It’s easy to get it confused.

Oh! I meant to mention this earlier: I’m a pretty big fan of The West Wing, and while my power was out last night I entertained myself by watching a few of the episodes that are downloaded on my iPad—including S2 E5 (“And It’s Surely To Their Credit”), wherein the First Lady travels to Cochran’s Mills, PA, to dedicate a statue of Nellie Bly.

Of course, it made me think of @nelliebly.
