Ghosts (US) Season 4 General Discussion (Spoilers in OP)

Love the new ghost twist. (Escarghost!) Have we seen the black guy basement ghost who had a line of dialogue before? I don’t remember him.

Look at that punim.
I believe the black male ghost is called Nigel and I think he’s had a couple of lines. He might have explained why the basement ghosts don’t like the upstairs, and when Pete made the faux pas of speculating it was “just a basement ghost” that got sucked off at the end of ep. 3, I think he might have commented on that.

That was a really good Christmas two-parter.

Sam’s line “I hate zombies!” belongs in a different thread here in CS.

Quite the episode last night!

  1. We finally got an answer to the question of how Jay would see the ghosts (a spoiler/plot point revealed before the season started). Turns out it was only temporary, although I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers pulled this out for a later episode. He didn’t get to interact with Sesappis at all, which was disappointing, because they’re dream buddies.
  2. On the topic of Jay seeing the ghosts. I love how they leaned into the comic absurdity of doing an exorcism, how both the posessee and the posessor consented to it, how noone knew the rules of what would happen, etc.
  3. Glad we finally got to see Jay’s parents. Color me surprised to see an Indian family celebrating Christmas, although I fully get that it’s possible for Indians in the US to celebrate Christmas as a cultural event, not necessarily a religious one. I also get that it’s possible for Indians in the US to be Christians.
  4. As per usual, this episode got me in The Feels, particularly the part where Thor spoke Lenape to Sass – that was touching.
  5. With Sam’s dad having been introduced, and Jay now seeing the ghosts, that leaves one spoiler that was hinted at before the season (see post #1 in this thread) that hasn’t come to fruition – which is to say, Alexander Hamilton making an appearance, with or without Lin Manuel Miranda being a part of the episode (either as himself, as Alexander, as some other character).
  6. Lots of ground yet to explore in the second half of this season. Will we learn how Sass died? Will we learn Hatty’s ghost power? Will Pete bring back non property-bound ghost females to address the matter of Sass’ virginity? Will the fact that animals can be ghosts play a role? Will the Puritans and/or other feral ghosts turn up?

Before today I had never once paid attention to the title card, but something suddenly caught my eye in the one for this season. Is that a meteorite under the bell jar? (I had never known that the title card for each season contains objects that are clues to things that happen in the season.)

Say whaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!

Assuming there are clues there, I see a pile of French fries, and one was a plot element in the Christmas episode. There’s also a snail, which also featured in an episode. I can’t tell what’s to the left of the books under the snail and the slice of cherry pie is clear, though I don’t remember that featuring in an episode so far.

Plastic vampire teeth.

And the snow globe’s importance showed up in the new Christmas ep, too.

I loved the concept for this. It’s getting contrived, but I’ll roll with it next year too. It’s worth it for the comedy and the “whoa!” factor. I cried so hard that Jay was finally able to interact with them all… all but his ghost-bff-Pete.

I think the only thing I didn’t like was the joke at the very end of Pete checking his pants to know it was time to go. It was a little icky to me and also unnecessary with the disappearing ARM. Oh and if the daughter was moving the next day (did I hear that wrong?), they had a lot of packing to do.

I’m not sure that it was to happen the next day. But if so, you’re certainly right–nothing in the shot indicated any packing at all!

Anyway: the episode was well done, and no doubt pleased the two lead actors, who must have enjoyed the chance to play Dual Roles. (Is there an actor alive who doesn’t crave that opportunity?)

This was a fun episode. I’m not sure why it was actually necessary for Sam to drive over the ghost boundary to expel Nancy. Did anyone else think Pete was going to get sucked off when he finally hugged his daughter?

I’ll take “Sentences that shouldn’t be read out of context” for $1000, Alex.

It wasn’t - but I thought Nancy was in control at that point - and, of course, the rule of humor.

These were the best eps of the season, so far, mostly because Sam and Jay got to do more than play “living straightman” to the ghosts. Rose McIver is adorable playing Sam possessed by Nancy. I also hope we see more of Carol.
Did Champa and Mahesh match what anyone was picturing as Jay’s parents? I think I was expecting something more like Raj’s parents on Big Bang Theory. Kind of disappointing that their characters aren’t even a little bit funny.

She’s also adorable anytime any of the ghosts passes through her. I have this dream that Sam will fall into all the ghosts when they’re gathered together and she’ll manifest all their personalities for the entire episode.

That would be fun. She’s a really good mimic, though there were times I couldn’t tell if she was lip synching to Betsy Sadaro’s voice. Still, she got the mannerisms down.
I just remembered when she played Flower on Dumb Deaths. She’s really good.

How about the next time Jay gets possesed it’s by Trevor and Bela is visiting. Maximum awkwardness ensues.

I hadn’t really pictured his parents, but the two actors cast happen to be ones really familiar to me: Sakina Jaffrey from a bunch of series I’ve seen (Homeland; Timeless; Mr. Robot; Snowpiercer) and the movie Red Sparrow; and Bernard White was a regular on Silicon Valley and also has been in a ton of movies (Captain America: The Winter Soldier; the last two Matrix movies; etc.)

They’re both very good so I can see why they were cast, but I couldn’t quite suspend disbelief enough to see them as being related to Utkarsh Ambudkar.

I came very close to doing a coffee spit-take when I read that
