Giada De Laurentiis-would somebody give that woman a sandwich???

Lovely woman, look at the older photos, really a stunner, but now when I see her on the Food Network, I shudder. Does she eat?

Maybe she has a health problem, maybe she is perfectly healthy. Maybe her primary concern isn’t to optimize her appearance based on the preferences of some guy on the internet.

I would think she has sufficient access to carbs, if she wanted them.

Try to realize that, the voluptuous style you see in her now ancient cooking show, was a combination of: recent post-pregnancy, limited costume budget (as they attest) with a certain combination of fan-service (the internet speculates)

I haven’t seen her looking thin, but I do remember there was a phase when she was extremely covered up, wearing full wide mumu on the beach. Possible sending an anti-fan-service message to her growing daughter. Celebs do that, even Madonna went together a somewhat non-fan-service phase, when Lola was a tween. But in that case, it wasn’t destined to last long.

What’s with those overweight celebrities? Can’t they just lay off of the damn Twinkies for once?

Who is a woman

Skinny people don’t choose their metabolism any more than fat people do.

Also, skinny shaming is the exact same crime as fat shaming.

Yet people think it’s okay to “jokingly” say, “Eat something, wouldya!” Right to a skinny person’s face! Would it be okay to say to your overweight friend, as she walks away, “And, hey, maybe eat a salad, wouldya!” Jokingly, of course!:dubious:

First thing I thought of upon reading the OP. Glad I’m not the only one.

Provide a link of what you are talking about or be ignored.

Damn near starvation.

Okay, but it doesn’t really make a difference, does it?

It’s tragic that anyone—even someone with a public job—have to endure random snark about his or her appearance from people of any sex/gender? (And, yes, of course it’s notable that women have to endure this way more than men.)

Looks fine to me. Real fine!

I don’t know if it’s quite the same. If you’re skinny/look underweight, people might think you’re not well. If your fat/overweight, people think you’re a bad person.

No, you just get called a “skinny bitch” and told you have “thin-priveledge”, so it’s totally okay to mock you for being thin. (Seriously, you should read some of the so-called “fat acceptance” and “Healthy At Every Size” blogs. These women are hateful)

Get some knees, wouldya?

Are you kidding? Look at her arms and legs. Someone “near starvation” would now have limbs so rounded and well developed. She has a small waist and almost no tummy bulge. Maybe she works hard at the gym.

Part of the “problem” of her appearance is that she has a relatively large head and a very pronounced jaw line, which can make her face look a little on the gaunt side (although I wouldn’t say that from this photo).

She is a public figure and I suppose must be accustomed to perfect strangers making public judgments on her appearance. That sort of thing would drive me right out of public life.

Hateful mockery is certainly unacceptable for any person’s appearance or physical characteristics. However, thin people do not suffer the same consequences in society that fat people do.

Yes, some fat people might get together and make disparaging comments about thin people. But in broader society, fat people are widely believed to be immoral, lazy, unintelligent, and repulsive, and they are often ignored socially and are discriminated against for jobs. Thin people don’t suffer these kinds of consequences on a broad level.

A separate phenomenon is that women in general are held up for criticism of their appearance, as evidenced by this thread.

It’s called deadpan sarcasm.

Ah yes, that is the new, modern, very-toned, Giada De Laurentiis. If you need to see the more voluptuous frame, just Google search for 'Giada de LauenTITS." After Google corrects your spelling error, you can then insist on your mis-pelling, and you’ll get all the internet threads you need on THAT subject.

Except for certain episodes of her cooking show, nearly a decade and a half ago, and her burka-on-the-beach phase I mentioned, she was always very toned. Do a search for her on a surfboard, since I’m not great at inline image links.

Surely there are better and more annoying things about her. Like those super chompers and her mostly accurate (though not always) pretentious “Italian” pronunciations of things with perfectly fine English pronunciations. Also, her “look at my tits!” food presentation back when she was “voluptuous” was grating.

I got three links and two images, and this thread was one of the links. And one of the images was Wallace & Grommit.
