It is not a requirement, and in fact most of the people in the Memoriam section of the Academy Awards are not current members; the Academy Awards did show Rodney Dangerfield in the Memoriam section; and he was offered Academy membership the year after he first applied.

I’m not sure what to make of that story, frankly. The web page in question does mention Dawn Wells, but the newspaper article scans make no mention of her whatsoever.

Thank you for obviously advocating legalizing marijuana. 
Although I’m saving my first partaking as a treat for my 40th birthday (which isn’t too far off these days), I just think it’s the coolest thing ever that he was that age, toking and still keeping his head high (and sense of humor) when busted.
Also, for being a terrific physical and comedic timing actor after coming off the oh-so-hip, adorable beatnik gig. That almost made me want a goatee (or is that a Vandyke?) and of course, I’d have loved to share his adventures on the island with all their cool homemade inventions.
But most importantly, for being my first crush. No other could ever fill your sailor’s hat.

As a teenager I spent one summer at Interlochen Music Camp, a camp in Michigan where kids came from all over the U.S. (as well as several foreign countries). On the first day, when we were assigned to our cabins, it didn’t take long for all of us in the cabin to start talking and laughing about Gilligan’s Island. It was kinda cool that with all of our diverse backgrounds and locations, we all had that TV show as part of our shared experience.
And I bet Rehnquist gets a bigger funeral than Denver. There ain’t no justice!
