Remember when they did the Gilligan’s Island spoof on Roseanne? I thought Laurie Metcalf made a great Gilligan
Roseanne was very forgettable as Ginger.
I will happily concede that Amanda Bynes is a cute little thing. But Mary Ann is ridiculously hot, yet mysteriously oblivious to the fact that, by all evidence, she is the daughter of Freyja after whom all beautiful and precious things are named. Such does not describe AB.
The late Glenn Quinn (Mark on Roseanne) made a good Professor
Ginger and Mary Ann? I vote for a young Loni Anderson and a young Jan Smithers.
I can’t see Betty White as Lovey. Rue McClanahan, maybe.
Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angeo would be interesting.
I think I’d go with Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad for the Howells.
How about an all black cast for the remake?

That red-haired woman from Mad Men for Ginger. I don’t watch Mad Men, so I don’t know her name.
I agree with Amanda Bynes for Mary Ann.
Christina Hendricks, “Joan” from Mad Men.
Perfect…

How about an all black cast for the remake?
Eh, it’s been done before. What’s wrong with an all Asian cast or an all Hispanic cast? Or even an all Australian Aborigine cast? Or they could film it with little people.
Peter Dinklage for the professor.
He would be perfect for the one intelligent person surrounded by idiots.
Jenna Fischer as Mary Anne
ETA: Dinklage is perfect as the Professor.

Oooo-kay. While I do fall on her side of the Mary Ann vs. Ginger debate, I would not say that about her. If you think of her that way, I don’t think you’d be able to find a modern actress to fit.
Or maybe I should put it this way: who do you think could play her?

Re: Kate Hudson…
I don’t know about hotness, but she’s much closer to the appropriate character. Hudson is just too girl-next-door. She can take racy photoshoots all she wants, but that can’t change the public’s perception of her that easily.
If Nine had been a hit, the public’s perception of her as a girl-next-door would have been changed forever. It is funny that her most famous role, in Almost Famous, was as a groupie, yet she’s still seen as a girl-next-door type.

Ginger is supposed to be seductive, somewhat manipulative, willing to use her sexuality and attractiveness to get what she wants,
This fits Hudson’s character in Nine to a TEEEEE. She was perfect for the role.

but unwilling to actually go so far as use sex itself. She’s somewhat haughty, but oddly classy.
That, not so much. She was perfectly willing to have sex with a married man, and was not at all classy, even though she was an editor of Vogue.

Peter Dinklage for the professor.
He would be perfect for the one intelligent person surrounded by idiots.
That’s totally brilliant!

It’s possible I was exaggerating.

I’m switching my votes to these. Brilliant.
I think that Zooey Deschanel should play Mary Ann.

I think that Zooey Deschanel should play Mary Ann.
Seconded. That wide-eyed “Who - me?” look is perfect for the Mary Ann who doesn’t see hwo cute she is.

Do you concede that such describes Anne Hathaway?

Do you concede that such describes Anne Hathaway?
I am…torn…about Anne Hathaway.
On the one hand she has a rocking body.
On the other hand her smile is…well…I don’t know. Too broad. Too toothy. Jokeresque.
On the other other hand she is clearly a talented actress, both comedically and dramatically, and shows no current signs of being a Lohanesque wackjob.
On the other other other hand, that fricking smile creeps me out.
Um, what were we talking about again?

Cedric just has the same type of humor, and adds the “required” diversity to an otherwise all-white cast, without making him a throwaway character like is so common nowadays.
That would be taken care of by the Harlem Globetrotters as themselves.
