Glee: 2.14 "Blame It on the Alcohol" (open spoilers)

I’m just watching the episode on DVR now, and it’s really a good one. Brittany as the Stripper Drunk (no problem believing that one) - did you notice that when Rachel and Kurt are cleaning up, Brittany’s bra was hanging on the wall?

Kurt’s a pretty militant gay.

And, drunk grading - haven’t the Doper teachers told us that they actually do this? Well, maybe not getting completely blitzed first…

Alcoholic teen-vomit fetishist? I feel a custom title change coming on!

Well, he couldn’t hide it if he wanted to (Blaine could), so he just has to totally own it.

I did like his dad getting after him about spend the nights. As for the addition, I figured his dad gave him the former master bedroom as his new bride probably wouldn’t want to stay in her predecessor’s room and he built an addition somewhere for himself and her.

I wonder if Rachel’s dads are ever going to be on the show. (I’m still thinking Nathan Lane and Brian Stokes Mitchell.)

Funny so many people liked it and thought Glee is getting their groove back, I usually love the show and thought this one wasn’t all that good.

I understand under age drinking isn’t unusual, but was there ANYBODY at the party that stayed sober on moral grounds? It seemed like Finn stayed sober in order to be the adult in the room but his comment to Rachel that she’s never had a drink sort of implies he often does himself. I don’t think Kurt drank anything but they never commented as to why.

I’m usually not one to rag on a show for questionable morality, but Glee’s audience consists in no small part of avid teen and pre-teen girls. Would it have been too much to have ONE person there just turn it down? Quinn would have been perfect, “No, that’s OK. Last time I did this the consequences lasted 9 months.” A great chance to show both responsible alcohol use (even by the underage) and reinforce real negative consequences other than just a nasty hangover. They almost completely struck out on both accounts, neither would have taken too much time nor adversely effected the story line.

The highlight of the night was no doubt Brittney rocking the “Key-dollarsign-ha.” Hate the song but she rescued it. That girl can dance.

And when he DID try to hide it, he was so unconvincing that no one but Brittany was fooled.

Thinking of which, it was a bit pot-and-kettley for Kurt to get on Blaine’s case for experimenting with a girl when just a year ago he was making out with Brittany. But Kurt was never in genuine doubt about his own sexuality, and he was really in no danger of leading Brittany on. She’d made it clear she was only interested in achieving a perfect record of having made out with every boy in the school.

Finn specifically said he was the designated driver. (One of several references to the importance of not driving drunk in this episode.) Kurt’s stated reason for not drinking was that he didn’t want to wind up looking stupid in front of Blaine, even though he realized Blaine had no similar concerns. It was my impression that Kurt generally doesn’t drink, though.

IIRC even *Brittany *was somewhat confused re Kurt, but didn’t quite get the point until he told her he was still gay. And the only other time we’ve seen Kurt drink was when April Rhodes (who really needs to visit again) enrolled at WMHS and joined New Directions and he ended up vomiting on Emma. I got the impression that his was the first time Kurt got invited to a HS party.

I’d forgotten about that. Maybe the experience was enough to convince him to hold off on drinking.

I’ve read that she will show up again before the end of this season.

I’m trying to think why teen drinking is immoral. I get the reasoning behind it being illegal, even if I don’t agree with it, but what does morality have to do with it?

Well the morality of not breaking the law, whatever it is. Though I guess “moral” wasn’t the best word to use. “Ideological grounds” maybe.

In light of Rachel’s own self-regard, she’s going to assume that of course his interest in her is genuine.

He was worried that if he got too drunk, he might have a good time.

Heh - I think you nailed it. He is wound a little tightly.

To be fair, he had to be tightly wound for a long time while he was closeted. Old habits can be hard to let go of.

Ah, but Rachel’s self-regard would also make her inclined to believe that the success of New Directions depends almost entirely upon her performance, and that competing teams would consider her their #1 threat.

Plenty of religious groups oppose drinking (all drinking, not just teen drinking) on moral grounds. Are you seriously unaware that some people consider drinking an immoral act (even if you disagree)?
Anyway, this was two pretty good episodes in a row, and this time they actually had some songs I didn’t think absolutely sucked. And some I still thought sucked but didn’t care because Brittany’s dancing was so awesome (seriously though, how can anyone stand that key dollar sign ha shit?:smack:). The duet with Blaine and Rachel was particularly good.

Speaking of which, I wish they’d dragged the Blaine/Rachel thing out a couple episodes, if only to watch Kurt squirm.

Regarding Kurt’s new room, someone said it was an addition, but isn’t it possible they wound up moving? I can’t see Kurt giving up that basement if they were still living in the old place.

Well he did get to (literally) sleep with Blaine.

If that kid managed to chastely share a bed with his drunk crush o’ the year-did he study with Buddhist monks or something?

Yes but he specified teenage drinking. I’m not aware of any religions that oppose drinking just for teens. In fact, there are many religions that get special exceptions to the law so that their teens can drink.

It does seem odd to make it a moral or even ideological issue, when there are other teen dangers that are approached solely on a risk & responsibility factor rather than an ideology (driving, credit cards, internet strangers).

Or he respected that Blaine does not have a crush on him. Or he wanted the first time for both him and his partner to be fully shared and romantic. Or he was just scared.

Both Kurt and the show will change dramatically if he ever gets properly laid.

I doubt even last year’s stalker Kurt would’ve date raped Finn (though he might’ve at least partially undressed him).
