The thing about Coulter is that she is just 100% evil. There’s nothing witty or charming about her evilness. Her mere presence in the world makes me question if there is a God.
She is the only person in the world who fills me rage every time I see or hear her. My blood pressure rises just at the sound of her name. If she died,
I wouldn’t have been able to interview her had I been Lauer. Because as soon as that bitch opened her mouth I would have burst into an Incredible Hulk-like rage and spiked her body through the window pane. You know, the big Rockefeller Plaza window. That would be sweet.
Bingo! I used to hang out at her message board before it went members only, and it was the biggest collection of idiots and losers this side of Stormfront. The ones who could actually spell still couldn’t come up with a single original thought, and everything seemed to come down to “I want to date Ann,” “Liberals and fags are the scum of the earth and should be drafted and sent to Iraq,” “All Muslims are savages,” and “Ann sure is hot.”
Once they had a Post Your Picture thread. It was not pretty. I was not a bit surprised about what I saw.
There are certainly some members of this MB that would qualify as lefty Coulters, but I agree that there aren’t any media defined equivalents. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Maybe some things are better left unbalanced…
What’s so worrisome about her, though, is that I see no indication that the people who read her books don’t take her 100% seriously. If she is basically in it for a lark and a joke and to make a quick buck, that’s morally questionable to begin with. But the moment other people start believing her hate-filled diatribes, she no longer has any claim to a “I’m just joking around” excuse.
She’s on Hannity and [sub]Colmes[/sub] right now. I’ve been trying not to watch but a mysterious, almost occult force keeps drawing me back. The only thing I saw was her saying, I’m not kidding, “Liberals want to free all criminals from prison,” and [sub]Colmes[/sub] whining about how he didn’t think that was true. (No shit, Alan.) I managed to tear myself away to “Last Comic Standing” before doing damage to my blood pressure.
Fuck it. I’m going to drink a beer and listen to Slayer.
That’s my thought as well. I’d love to write her off, but there are people that take her seriously. There are people that believe her. That puts her past troll and into the scary column.
And she looked harsh on the Today show. Even less attractive than normal. She better get something done fast before she loses the majority of her “fans.”
The closest on the left I can think of, who regularly appears in a major media outlet, is Ted Rall. The guy just seems to be permanently in that teenage phase of ‘as long as it pisses people off, who cares what the point is?’
Yeah, we’re definitely being wound up. But if her fans are too busy being sexually repressed to see that, then we have a problem no matter what. I don’t see any fixing it, though. I guess it makes me a liberal elitist, but this time I really do think the problem is the stupid people, and there’s no way to make people smarter.
People who would believe what she had to say about 9-11 widows enjoying their widowhood because of the political advantages it brings would have to be too cold in their hearts for reason. She cannot know what they are feeling and to exploit them in mass like that is exceedingly cruel.
I simply can’t get angry at Ann Coulter anymore after having read this (text only, but NC-17). Now I just giggle whenever I see her. There is a second chapter, but it’s not quite as rich IMHO. Yogurt cannon, indeed!
I think Ted Rall is a very close equivalent to Coulter. At least, reading his columns causes feelings in me that resemble the feelings described here in response to Coulter. He’s not quite as prominent as Coulter, though.
Maybe some things are better left unbalanced…
