Gobble, eh? A Metric Thanksgiving MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 16c.61f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy and mild. Let’s get crazy and get fucking kitten tattoos we’ll probably regret later.”

doggio we definitely have a lot of student queens and drama llamas. We do have a Princess or two, but that’s their name rather than a title although one of them does try to live up to it.

metalmouse we don’t really rotate crockery as we only have a small amount of stuff in the cupboard and it’s all got its own uses

Bright Tree I hope your leg feels better soon - Ollie must be wondering what strange fetish you’ve developed if it requires his leash to help.

shoe glad to hear surgery went well and she’s already home, best place to be when you’re recovering.

Yesterday was not a bad irk day, team meeting was blissfully short. I made campus food and went to the gym. Kettlebells was cancelled so I did the other class and then pottered around in the weights section scaring all the knuckleheads with my presence. Went home and made dinner, then vegged on the sofa for a while before bed.

The commute wasn’t bad this morning despite all the trains running late (signalling problems and fog) but I was still here in fairly good time. I have a meeting this morning and then a lunchtime training session. There’s another meeting that overlaps with the training but I’m sure I only need to read through the slide deck to know there’s nothing new from the last time this person had a similar “please prioritise this” meeting.

Out with friends tonight (without 'im indoors) so we’re doing our own thing for dinner. First late night of many this week, hopefully might get a lie-in on Saturday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 87 and sunny. The main item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. The main need to feed will be lunch at the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet. There will be, of course, the usual RDOS sloth.

I have never worried about rotatin’ plates, glasses, cups etc. They get put where they stay until used, then washed and put back. We are evidently slovenly in our dishware ways.

BrightTree hope whatever is goin’ on with your leg feels better soonest. I have no doubt you will be strummin’ like a pro on your guitar in no time.

shoe glad your mother’s surgery went well and that she’s home and recoverin’. I would prefer to be at home in recovery as soon as possible.

VanGo hope the meds help with the ear situation. I’ve always heard back pretty quick (within the week) the results of xrays and such. Stuff moves fast nowadays.

It would limit the size of pieces I could do to smaller than the diameter of the crock, so not the option I want. The video I saw showed the pieces being dipped in the wax rather than it being painted on, which is how I was taught. So I want something at least 10", preferably 12", in diameter and shallow.

I was looking at single-burner hot plates - they’re cheaper and I have an old skillet that I could use with it - that’s another option. Plus it’d heat faster than a crock pot which is another consideration. So the search continues.

This. Altho after my seizure, I wanted them to figure out what went on, no matter how long it took. But after surgical stuff, I wanted my own bed without people waking me all the time to check my vitals.

It wasn’t 2AM, but I remembered the tidbit I wanted to share - about my mom’s cane. It’s the kind that stands on its own and it has a headlight, an alarm, and a second handle that folds down if she needs it to stand or something. I swear, the only thing missing is a tassle thingie like you put on your bike handlebars!! Plus it’s just black - BORING!!! But I was kinda surprised that she needs it to get around. Her little heart episode apparently took a lot out of her. Then again, she is 92…

Food Lion’s website and app have been “down for maintenance” the last couple of days. (hacked??) I bet the folks who have gotten used to placing an order and picking up their groceries are losing their minds!! I’m just ticked because I like to check over the new weekly sales, but when I go today, I’ll just grab the old-fashioned printed circular. I don’t really need much, but I like to see what’s on sale in case there are some good deals. So today’s shopping will be an old-school adventure!

But first, I’ve got the appointment at the credit union to move some money. It’s kinda weird - for ages, it was all about saving for retirement. Well, now is retirement - precisely what we saved for! And with our cruise coming up and some things I want to do around the house, it’s time to tap into that CD. And since it was my 401k and my CD, FCD doesn’t have to come with me - he can futz in his shop.

So, credit union and groceries will fill my morning. Dunno what the afternoon will hold. Onward! Happy Wednesday!

It’s October 14th. Do you know what that means? If it’s your birthday, happy birthday and many happy return addresses. On this day in history, actor Woody Harrelson ate lunch. I don’t remember where I was going with this.

Yesterday’s visit with Dr. Q went well. She looked at my lab results, noting my low sodium number. Indeed, during the visit, my legs were on the verge of cramping. Over the next several hours, I tried various things to overcome the cramping. I stretched.

I tried to ignore it. I took tylenol. I did 20 minutes on an indoor exercise bike. I used a portable impact massager. Eventually, I remembered the low sodium number, and I sprinkled some salt on my lunchtime apple. That’s what worked.

The sign at the apiary said, “Do not poke the bees.” I know what bespoke means, but I never have a reason to use the word.

gOOD mORNING! Hmm… Caps Lock. Good Morning!

It is yet another hot and humid day in Middle Tennessee. October is my favorite summer month. I had double yoga last night. The instructor for the power flow also ran the stretchy class right after. Unfortunately, she turned off the ceiling fans for the second session. I finally stopped sweating shortly before the second savasana. I’m going to have to drink a lot of water today.

I’ll rotate clothes and towels. I’ve not rotated dishes. That just seems like to much hassle.

Well good morning all. Slept in (with one bladder alert) until 7:45am, so should be well-rested. Mowage is the main chore planned for the day, will try to do it in about an hour or so, it’s currently 78F but heading to 90F this afternoon, so don’t want to delay it. That’s the major activity for the day so afternoon will be given to gym and sloth, as this will be my only non-soccer day until Sunday. Rice Krispies are snapping, crackling and popping in my belly right now, so am happily fed.

And catching up with the night’s and early morning doings of my fellow MMP’ers…

VanGo, know what you mean on white coat syndrome, especially as concerns my BP. No matter what I measure it at home, it’s always 15 points or so higher when the Drs. Office takes it. Hope the medications help the ear problem, or you might have to get a reference to an ENT specialist.

Yeah, that’s my reasoning, plus having worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant in my youth, shuffling plates and stuff is an old habit.

Boo fae, meetings and training…so happy to be retired now…

FCM, hope the wax-melting pot search pays off soon. And sounds like your Mom’s cane does everything but say ‘get off my lawn’…

Yeah, I know the feeling, my Financial adviser keeps coming up with these great investments that I should get into, and I keep saying 'I’m 73, maybe got 20 years left and I want to spend some of it while I can."

Knots, do that sodium thing. Na Na Na…

Or Bees poke you…

Mollie, yeah, I rotate clothes, especially shirts, so they get fairly even wear. My gym is pretty comfortable, but then again I don’t participate in any of the classes there.

And caught up again. Need to check my Wednesday webcomic updates and then get dress appropriately for performing mowage. Have a good day all.

Happy hump day!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I do need to take the trash out today, but other than that, RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I do not rotate the kitchenwares.

Maybe check the local thrift store for an electric frying pan?

49F at 1015 this morning. Way more fall-ish and less crankifying. Leaves are turning color more rapidly these days. Good visit by my eldest yesterday. We dined on green chili stew and yacked for several hours.

Tomorrow we go to the “Titanic Immersive Exhibit” here in the city. Should be interesting. I skipped exercise this morning, as I don’t want to be dragging tomorrow.

I stopped at one yesterday - unfortunately, a waffle iron won’t work and that’s pretty much all they had. I may go by one of the others.

Erranding accomplished. The stop at the credit union involved me sitting and sitting and sitting. That is, once I clarified with the guy exactly what I wanted to do. I’m wondering if I switched to another language for a while there - how many ways can you say - “Minimize taxes and maximize cash out”? We finally reached an understanding and all is good. The grocery stops were rather successful also.

Once home with foods unpacked and stowed, I had the rest of my shepherd’s pie for lunch and set about moving money around. I have to figure out one more move - I think both credit unions talk to each other, but I need to be sure before I do any transactions. Maybe I’ll just mail a check. If I recall, there’s a limit on how much you can transfer electronically in a day but no limit on writing a check. I dunno.

FCD wants me to do some touch up painting this afternoon. I doubt it’ll take long. SIL called - I’ll be getting the kids Firday night after the wedding because Tobias is invited to a birthday party on Sat. I think they should just reschedule, but whatever.

So, off to change into grubbies.

Afternoon all. Mowage is completed, three 39-gallon bags are full of clippings, and I have had a grilled cheese w/bacon sammich as my reward. Taking my time getting to the gym, they are passing out medals (the participation kind) to give to the U8 and below divisions starting at 6pm and that’s only a mile from the gym, so no reason to make two trips (efficient, I iz…). Up to 91F so summer is still getting it’s last licks in, and the chances I will be mowing my yard in November are increasing.

Cookie, enjoy the exhibit, but don’t get to immersed, unless you brought bathing trunks…

FCM, happy money-moving.

And onward into the afternoon.

We have Pfaltzgraff stoneware. I’m not moving plates unless I have to, they are heavy. No rotating of glassware, flatware or china.

We have nice china, which we rarely use, so I took a few pieces of that and put it in with the daily stuff so that we get some use out of it. Hubby used to break a glass about once or twice a year, but he gave that up, but only after I bought 2 boxes of 6 glasses during COVID lockdown. We emptied one box and the other one is still unopened, 5 years later.

Two sets of sheets, so we rotate those. And today I wore my blue suede boots because it’s not too cold, too hot, or too wet to wear them. I’ve had them more than 10 years, and they will probably last another decade as I wear them so rarely.

Trash has been taken to the dumpster. When I was loading it in the trunk of my car (3 bags, 1.5 blocks to the dumpster and I’m a gimp, so I drive), a pickup pulled up behind me and let a guy off. Then he waited. There were at least a half dozen parking places he could have pulled into without blocking other vehicles from backing out, but, noooooo. He had to be asked to move. Then he was behind my neighbor’s van that they were loading their grands in and the dumb@$$ had to be asked to move again. Makes you wonder how some folks get to be middle aged without getting run over or someone just beating the snot out of them.

Evenin’

Briefly popped in to my sort-of-workplace today, cos some of the stuff I was clearing out was basically the 'spensive lab grade version of stuff used to grow mushrooms (the food kind), and as one of the staff is into mushroom growing, she was after them. Had a nice chat; she said she’ll keep an eye out for any suitable jobs going, as I’m actually more interested in some of the stuff her group does than some of the stuff I wound up doing.

Called in to get some cheap municipal compost on the way home; not the best thinking, it’s been wetter’n I thought lately, so it was basically scooping up a swamp into one of those Ikea bags, but I’d committed by that point. I think what I got was about 30% water though this was reduced a bit as some helpfully dripped out onto my jeans. It wasn’t anywhere near full, but the bag carry straps actually snapped unloading it, fortunately just as I was about to put it down. Hopefully it will be worth it for a new, improved veg patch next year.

This morning I got a text from my niece, who is also a quilter. She asked if we had ever gone to the quilt show in Paducah Kentucky. This is the largest and most highly regarded show of the year which happens in mid April. She and a friend are considering going. We had planned to go three years ago but the venue was flooded out. I texted back telling her we had canceled.

This lit a fire under me. I went to work on finding reservations. The hotels are mostly full, even at event rates. I finally found a room, and we are going. Once That was solved I moved on to the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show, in Madison, and found a room for that one also. We have been to this show before. It happens the weekend after Labor day.

We are now looking forward to two lovely vacations in 2027.

A gorgeous fall day here today, started off with 45Ferrets. We have a projected high of 72F. Does it get any more perfect?

shoe, glad yer mom is home and recuperating. I suspect she will heal faster in her familiar space and bed, and Lily Cat will have a lot to do with that. I know when I had my last comparatively minor surgery, my doc told me I could go home the same day so long as I had someone to stay with me overnight. I did, and I was very grateful for that option.

metal mouse, thanks for your kind concern re my wonky leg. I can report it is much better this morning, though not back to 100%. There’s reason for hope on the horizon! I will keep close track, and if improvement is not day to day, I will take your excellent advice and get my butt in to see the doc sooner. I wish I knew what I did to cause the pain in the first place. I’d like to not repeat it!

Thanks, red! Your optimism is inspiring. I had a busy morning so haven’t picked up the gee-tar yet today, but when I give Ollie his 2 o’clock treat, I’ll slip away for a quick session. (The calluses can’t come fast enough!) Did your doc give you any hopeful news at your visit? I sure hope so. And people can be so dumb sometimes (referring to the blockhead who wouldn’t move out of the way).

VanGo, I hope your blood pressure improves soon and that the pills help with your ear situation. It sounds very unpleasant. Hang in there!

LOL, BooFae, Ollie did give me a funny look when he smelled his leash. I’ve kept it handy today but haven’t needed to use it. Lifting the leg is still painful, but the pain has lessened to “bearable”. I’ll take that improvement. Get enough rest to keep up with your late-nights schedule!

swampy, I’ll keep you and everyone posted on guitar and leg progress, whether you want me to or not. Hope you enjoyed the Chinese hog trough buffet.

FCM, hope you solve your wax-melting challenges.

I will join you in that. Good job with the salt, too.

Probably true. My day-to-day dishes have 16 place settings. Over the years of regular use, many of them are not in great shape. I should probably dispose of all the ones that are too worn for use with company. I’d still have at least 6 of everything.

Enjoy the Titanic Immersive Exhibit, cookie! And glad you had a pleasant visit with your eldest yesterday.

Hippie, enjoy those quilt shows! Good job getting everything booked! Vacations should always get top priority, IMHO.

The leg issue interfered with my plans to mow today. It’ll keep. Not much else on the schedule today, and I’m happy with that. Tomorrow is more running around, so I’ll enjoy not being too busy today.

Dinner tonight will be a mug of ham and bean soup with a chicken sandwich made on Ciabatta bread. I’m trying to clear out the (good) freezer a bit.

I started another jigsaw puzzle, Signs Across America. We’ve done this one before. I did something actually useful today. I changed the air & water filters in the refrigerator. I can do this standing on the floor. If Mrs. Nott does it, she has to stand on a step stool.

I got lucky, and the cantankerous stereo receiver locked onto SiriusXM on the first try. Yippee! Yesterday’s MegaMillions ticket came up with zero, so I’m a proud taxpayer.

I think we finally sold our “good china” before our last move. My in-laws gave it to my wife long ago, and we never used it. Corelle works fine for daily use and festive occasions.

We never had “good china” altho I did look at some once or twice. It never made sense for our lifestyle (decidedly casual.) MIL had a set of Wedgwood service for 12 that she almost never used, and over their many moves, pieces inevitably got broken. I tried to sell it for her because neither I nor my daughter wanted it. No one else wanted it either. Not even the replacement china place! So after she died, I gave it away via FB Marketplace. FCD kept one piece that’s collecting dust in his office.

This got me remembering the pitch I got from a salesman in my senior year of high school. He was selling Hope Chests and all the assorted crap we future wives would need. I feel really bad about wasting his time. I only booked with him to get the free little cedar box.

It appears today’s mid-80s will be followed by tomorrow’s mid-60s and rain. Our HVAC will be checked and serviced tomorrow. I’ll try to spend time in my studio ahead of the kids coming this weekend. And so the excitement continues.

Is there an word for a condition more screwed up than FUBAR? Because that was today. I started with the taping, but 30min in, I was sorting on the 300 Sort Aisle. Then I was sorting on the 300 Table from 0530 till 8. None of the regulars was up there. It was me, 4 guys from Unload, the guy trying to.learn how to clerk, and 2 Blueberries.
Then I was trying to clerk and run packages. I was still dealing with stuff at 0945 when the drivers left. That’s 2 days in a row where we’ve had normal or higher volume, but a later than normal start. since I wasn’t doing retakes, there were an humongomotherfucker load of damages and retapes. Also, if you are shipping 36 pieces of siding in 3 boxes, when did you pack them 24, 10 and 8(Home Despot) I stead of 3x12? I left at 215. The Senior Clerk and J left earlier, without saying a word to me. I do not blame them. I had to stop at the post office. And that was a a long wait. The poor guy was by himself. No.matter how bad you think the government is run, it is worse when you try to nuke it from orbit. My new PC is still out for delivery, and the old one is pinin’ for fjords. So I am typing on my phone. So feel free.to heckle me for spelling and grammar mistakes. I’ll blame tonight’s martini.

Somebody’s 53lbs. one fell out of the box and disappeared, so you’re not the only one.
