I discovered this comic about a month ago and am hooked. Oddly, it closely parallels a campaign I am running, where the primary “villains” are an adventuring group of goblins. There is a great backstory and lots of moral nuance, but the PCs are just blundering through like idiots. Really, the prevalence of WoW has made it so they just run around until they find someone with a gold explanation point over their head.
Hmm… Minmax is fundamentally a Good - albeit naive - character. Is he going to save Dellyn?
And here it is! Very satisfying, I must say; and in an odd way, heart-wrenching at the same time.
See for yourself. Nope.
I got turned onto Goblins by somebody here ages ago, and it rocks. Easily one of my top 3 webcomics.
I have to say, the scene where Dellyn was describing what he did to Kin every night was really disturbing, and this is just as disturbing, but in a different way. Poor Kin. Thank goodness for Minmax’s “Traded in my ability to wink” comic relief.
I’m really nervous about two things now: 1) How will the two good guys respond to Kin’s freakout? 2) How will the townspeople respond to the death of Dellyn Goblinslayer?
Well, he was no longer a town employee, so they might consider that the removal of a dangerous loose cannon from their midst was a good thing.
Can’t see any of them being too thrilled about the damage to the Brassmoon Saloon.
As far as Kin is concerned, I’m out of guesses.
No one’s holding her leash. She’s an extra bad-ass magical beast. I don’t think she has much to fear from them, or the townsmen, if (and that’s a big if, granted) she can come to her senses before they come off their shock.
But in any case, I’m willing to bet at least Minmax will take her side and protect her from the Angry Mob ™ to come ; after all her plea was why he badassed right through Dellyn in the first place.
One just hopes he’s got enough will for character development XP to get past the knee jerk “OMG EVIL !!” reaction himself
Having defeated Dellyn, who’s many levels higher than him, Minmax has probably gone up a level anyway. With bonus XP for good roleplaying.
You DO check out the Tempts Fate donation comic, right? Goblins - I’m kind of scared to even try WoW, I can see myself getting waaaay too involved in it.
And what’s Kin going to do now that she’s achieved her life’s ambition?
Try to get back to her people, I would imagine.
Been following this webcomic for a while now, just noticed this thread. Go Kin!
Good way for Kin to work out some of her anger issues. Maybe we will see Saral again, with Delyn, in Hell. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer pair. I’m guessing that somewhere along the line, both will be resurrected.
And, in the update, the trend continues…
Now Dellyn’s dead, how many HP did he have?
Minmax has a 22 Str for +6 damage. His unarmed strikes therefore do an average of 8 HP and his sword does an average of 10.5.
Minmax’s first hit was obviously a critical, plus Dellyn took damage from the glass. Call it 18 HP total. Then a head-butt and a punch and a head-slam for another 24. Then there’s the fire damage. 3d6 then 2d6 then 1d6? But Dellyn is partially wood so will take double damage, for 44 fire damage. 86 HP damage total damage, leaving him on -6. Which gives him a normal HP total of 80 HP, making him 8th - 10th level, assuming a decent CON bonus.
Plus a shot by an ‘improvised weapon.’
So, with Goblinslayer and Saral dead (and Saral apparently not coming back), who does this leave as the major villain? Kor?
Well, Kor IS the actual original major villain of the strip. And we’ve kind of gotten away from him/her while this urban adventure was happening. Minmax and Forgath have always been the “comedy relief” villains.
But we’re probably going to cut back to the main party of goblins soon here. At last sight, they were camping in the forest a few days out of town.
Not to mention the other party in that mysterious dungeon, with the former slaves and Dieshorribly(?) (which, incidentally, I have a placeholder toon with that name on my guild’s server in WoW in anticipation of goblin PCs when Cataclysm comes out)…
Brilliant!
makes a note to get Complainsofnames on Cairne
At least one high level mage and one high level cleric, i.e. their old adventuring days partners. A Warrior/Ranger group wouldn’t have gotten far on its own, even if we assume Kor was with them too.
Plus, there still remains the mystery of why Dellyn was half-tree in the first place.
Finally, the gobs still have to cure [del]Fumbles[/del]Señor Vorpal Kickass’o, and reunite with Dies Horribly. The latter involves the albino goblin tribe, and they don’t seem all that friendly…
Not all that friendly to non-goblins. Duv definitely has a dark side to her, but she isn’t really an enemy to the protagonists.
She kept goblin slaves. Doesn’t seem all that friendly to me, if you were a goblin outside her group.
