Gonzomax, you surprised and disappointed me.

You know, I hear this sort of comment from fundamentalists all the time. I don’t believe them either.

You used an insulting remark. People took offense. Stop pretending that it was anything else, and own up to it. You are not the first person in history to have offended someone by an inadvertent slight. As others are pointing out, you’re simply digging the hole so deep that you can report back on the composition of the Earth’s core.

OH,oh. I did it again. Now the handicapped and people with bad legs are going to take offense. I used lame . Do I know how hurtful that is to some people?

I don’t know. Is it? Have any handicapped people ever protested the use of the word “lame” in this context because they felt it was demeaning to them? Because if they haven’t, then you don’t have much of a point, do you?

I don’t know why, but this has me lollering like a loon.

That was his doctor talking to him.

Well, it’s pretty obvious that this is exactly what you ARE doing…otherwise you wouldn’t be in here making excuses. If you weren’t defending your use of the word you wouldn’t be here after all.

Funny that this is exactly what you are doing then. You have defended your use of the word since the first page of this thread.

Well, generally when quoting or even paraphrasing from a movie, book or any other work of someone else’s mind it’s good form to acknowledge this in some way. In fact, I think it’s a board rule. If it isn’t, it’s still bad form…but then it’s you, so it’s not like it’s a huge surprise.

Yes.

But very, very, very, very poorly.

Wrong. I had no nasty intentions. I am not responsible for hypersensitivity. I do not defend, because I do not need to.

Fuck you, homophobe.

 What do you call what you’ve been doing the last 5 pages then? Explaining with emphasis? How’s your non-defensive defense working out so far?

As for your assertion that this is all just ‘hypersensitivity’…I really didn’t think you could get more stupid but you have sunk to new depths. This is like telling a black person that they are being ‘hypersensitive’ if someone casually throws out the term ‘nigger’…even if the person in question protests most non-defensively that they aren’t a racist. It’s amazing that after 5 pages you STILL don’t get it…well, considering it’s you I suppose it’s not actually all that amazing.

-XT

I second that.

Enjoy your childish name calling and insults? I guess that is who and what you are.I do feel sad for you.

As opposed to using the term faggy. Pitiful.

Wrong. Absolutely not a homophobe. That is why I discuss with you people. You can not hang that on me.

You’re not discussing. We can hang homophobe on you as easily as you hang faggy on us.

Not gay and not hypersensitive about it. Just face it, in the land of reasonable adults, you were offensive. You may have been clueless about your offensiveness, but we’re informing you now…well, for several pages. Despite your intentions, you were offensive. To reasonable people as well as gays. We all winced.

Do yourself a favor and apologize for (unintentionally) causing offense. Then, in the future, think before you use pejorative terms.

Okay, you didn’t have any ill intentions. I tend to believe you. Only a person intentionally trying to offend or a person with no social awareness would compare dog grooming to gay men on a public forum. It’s your inability to admit it and apologize that is hard to understand.

Incidentally, the gay community is diverse. You are over generalizing an overused Hollywood stereotype to all gay men.

While it’s impossible to know for sure, I would tend to give you a pass on this. You probably are NOT a homophobe. Stupid and ignorant…but not a homophobe.

For what it’s worth, I’m not convinced gonzo’s a homophobe, either.

HOWEVER…just because you’re not antisemitic doesn’t mean you can use the phrase, “He jewed me out of a month’s pay” without getting crapped on. And that’s what gonzo is refusing to see. He thinks that because he didn’t actually mean to make fun of gay men, he gets a pass on the word.

He doesn’t. And that’s where the stumbling block is in communication between us (call it “Team Sane”) and him.

The important thing here isn’t defend, it’s comprehend.
