Good eulogy, Mr Bush

I’ve just watched Bush’s eulogy to Ford on the BBC website. It was good, but he was ill served by the acoustics. That’s one speechwriter who’s earned their pay.

Moving thread from IMHO to MPSIMS.

I thought it was a little…weird…I mean, why in the world was he bringing up the Kennedy assassination at a FUNERAL? Very poor taste :expressionless:

He sounded like a kid proudly reading in front of the class from his first US History book: “Gerald Ford was born. He did some stuff. He went to school. He went into public service. He became Vice President. He then became the President. He made some tough choices.”

Meanwhile the audience shifting in their seats and thinking yeah, no duh, we all remember, George, we were all there.

Ah, I see what you did there. You compared Bush to a little kid, thus implying that he’s stupid like a little kid. Very clever, sir, hats off to you.

Except that’s the point of a eulogy, of course. What did you expect? “We’re here to honor Gerald Ford, but I know you all knew Jerry and are thinking, no duh, we remember him, we were there, so – how about that Fiesta Bowl, huh? They’re calling it the best college football game ever!”

Huh? I just read the transcript of George W. Bush’s eulogy and saw no mention of the Kennedy assassination.

I thought you meant Daddy Bush. Sorry! But here’s the quote from his eulogy I was talking about.

Found here:

I only heard most of Daddy Bush’s eulogy, but the part I heard was where he did his best Dana Carvey - doing him. I thought that was pretty good stuff.
