Good Luck, Vancouver

Wishing you a wonderful Olympic experience. I hope the games are a great success.

The Calgary Tower has its Olympic torch lit tonight as gesture of support, and of course to relive our own special memories of the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Have a super time everyone.

Oh, and GO CANUCKS!!!

I am NOT loving that version of “Oh, Canada”! Beautiful voice and girl, though.

Nor me, Savannah.

Normally the crowd sings the anthem with great gusto. That was a bit dirge-like for the general populous.

BTW. I am unfamiliar with the singer.

That was the EZ-Rock version of the anthem. Embarrassingly bad. It’s so beautiful when sung “straight”.

Isn’t there supposed to be more explosions and nifty stuff before the athletes come in? Maybe the summer games have grander opening ceremonies.

I think the trend is to have the athletes in the stadium to enjoy the fun.

winter games are smaller and the show is for the athletes.

how does one get one of the nifty usa moose hats?

We’ve reached the Es!

Hey rocking chair, what have you seen that we have not? Have not seen the US team yet?

We are just at Finland.

On a more sober note, here comes Georgia.

Georgians removed hats to honour deceased team-mate. So touching - and what a sad story.

I’m totally going to be rooting for the Ghana guy. The next Eddie the Eagle?

Reminds me a bit of the Jamaican bob-sled team.

Also, am so totally going to be cheering for India. Because I work there so often.

PS. sorry for consecutive posts.

The film at the beginning. I thought it was a little CGI–especially that little float plane. BC really is beautiful, though. I did like the maple leaf against the snow. Somehow I knew the snowboarder would end up in the stadium. Was it Ross Rigliati? (Spelling?)

Sorry, I do not know. I was preparing the snacks/drinks prior to the opening. But I think it was just a media person. However, I am willing to stand corrected.

It wasn’t Ross Rebagliati. AFAIK, it’s just some generic media guy.

I mentioned this in the pit thread, but should have posted it here instead: for the US audience, here’s the TV schedule page. You can choose by day or by sport. It shows all the different NBC channels including mobile broadcasts. Hover over the gray boxes to see the event info.

US and Canada coming in soonest.
