Do you recall what the presidency did to Bill Clinton’s, George W Bush’s and Barack Obama’s hair? Can you imagine the shit-show that tumbleweed on top of Trump’s head is going to turn into? Comedy gold!
The photo ops of Presidents Don and Vlad together being manly mean it should be a big 4 years for man boobs.
About time, I’ve been holding out for this.
Nah, those other guys were actually working at the job. Trump’s idea of the presidency is to go around being adulated while other people do the work. Who those other people will be is the frightening thought here.
Anyway, one potentially great thing about a Trump presidency is that it might at least be able to offset some of its negative economic effects here by increased housing demand due to massive immigration from the US of fine progressive Americans including creative and scientific people, providing a boost not only to the Canadian housing market but to the academic and R&D talent pool and the creative community. And likely also seeing an influx of productive, educated, and newly fearful minorities. And of course no end of late-night comedy. Looking forward to it.
Until the Trump regime decides the USA needs those Canadian oil fields, you mean.
Excuse me, I speak gun.
He said:
wrt=with regard to
sbr=short barrel rifle
sbs=short barrel shotgun
Then he’ll be fighting NATO. And Russia, which will definitely make it more interesting. It’s about time those Europeans came over and helped out on this side of the Atlanatic for a change!
Is the gun lobby really all that pissed that sawed off shotguns are prohibited? Sounds like the waste of a perfectly good shotgun to me.
Well, there are sawn-off shotguns, and there are short-barreled shotguns. Sawing a barrel off does seem like mutilation of a perfectly good shotgun to me, and more likely to be used by someone up to no good. Certain short-barreled shotguns would be nice from a historical perspective. For a rifle example, I’m building a replica 1st generation CAR-15 (‘slick-side’ receiver, chrome bolt, swiveling swivel) and it would be great if I could put on a 14½-inch barrel instead of the legally-required 16-inch barrel. (Incidentally, I’m still looking for a 16-inch, chrome-lined, 1:12 twist, ‘pencil’ (thin) barrel.)
Indeed.
I hope that if the Trump regime does overreach in that way, the world community *will *respond decisively. I hope that even if it means I and those I care about could end up as collateral damage.
The thing is, Trump isn’t overly-bright, and on top of that he surrounds himself with yes-men who themselves are not particularly well-informed–and who, some of them, have financial interests in war-industry concerns. That’s nothing if not a recipe for military adventurism. Conscripting vast numbers of disaffected US citizens and using them as cannon fodder would obviate some domestic-pacification-of-dissenters issues, too.
So, you guys up there, do keep in close touch with the European NATO folks. You never know what might be coming.
Thanks, I wasn’t aware of the distinction. What are the advantages of short-barreled shotguns to sportsmen? And good luck with your replica, sounds like a cool project.
What arms sales to allies has the Obama administration blocked? The only one that comes to mind is Obama’s insistence that only non-lethal equipment and supplies be given to Ukraine (in addition to joint U.S. military training with Ukraine’s armed forces). And this was only to prevent a further escalation of Russian arms and forces to the Donbass rebels.
And as to an “improved military,” what does that mean? There has been a drawdown recently with the Army and Marines over the past few years, but that has been a consequence of the budget sequester that was put in place by Congress. Congress could have either passed a non-continuing resolution budget that eliminated the sequester or approved an Obama-proposed budget that would do the same thing, but the House of Representatives has refused to do so. Since they control the purse strings, any president’s hands are mostly tied in this respect.
Trump wants to expand the military but close overseas bases, let allies mostly rely on themselves, and make nice with Russia. Which then begs the question, why would we need an even larger military in order to do much less than we do today?
NYC will have one less entitled, arrogant asshole. If he takes Uday and Qusay with him, it might just be the start of a movement. Also, less greenhouse gases being pumped out of Trump Tower.
Good things about a Trump presidency…
Bad things were bound to happen in the next four years regardless of who became president.
If Hillary won they would all be blamed on the democrats, but now, since Republicans are in charge, all bad things that happen will be blamed on Republicans.
So, if there is inflation, or unemployment rates go up, or people lose their health insurance or premiums go up, it will be blamed on Republicans.
Unless Breitbart and Fox can manage to spin it to blame all the bad on the Democrats and everyone buys it.
The main one that comes to mind is the obstructed sale of 66 fighter jets (F-16C/D) to Taiwan for fear of angering China, although there may be others I overlooked.
I do hope Trump stops the Syrian Muslim refugee horde that was scheduled to come.
Well here’s an actual positive development – former alt-right extremist lunatic Glenn Beck appears to have been shocked into sanity by recent events, more or less acknowledging that his previous persona was basically a crazy act, but now reality has become even crazier …
That was the old Beck, he insists: “I did a lot of freaking out about Barack Obama.” But, he said, “Obama made me a better man.” He regrets calling the President a racist and counts himself a Black Lives Matter supporter. “There are things unique to the African-American experience that I cannot relate to,” he said. “I had to listen to them.”
Beck’s interactions with Donald Trump helped, too. He told a story of Trump summoning him to a guest room at Mar-a-Lago; Trump then telephoned him from an adjacent room. “We had this weird, almost Howard Hughes-like conversation,” Beck said. He left convinced that Trump was nuts. “This guy is dangerously unhinged,” he said. “And, for all the things people have said about me over the years, I should be able to spot Dangerously Unhinged.”
… “We’ve made everything into a game show,” he said, “and now we’re reaping the consequences of it.”
I didn’t know that less than a hundredth of a percent of the U.S. population constituted a “horde”. :dubious:
Screw those women and children who have nowhere safe to go! Just like we turned away Jewish refugees in the 30s and 40s. God forbid we learn from our mistakes and extend some compassion!
A) If we were just taking in women and children there wouldn’t be much of an issue. Don’t use talking points from political hacks. That’s a particularly tired one.
B) Not the same as Jewish refugees, unless we’re talking about Christian or Jewish refugees or other religious minorities. This is more like turning away Cuban refugees.
Anyway, one thing that Democrats might be thrilled about, or dread, is that the first two issues Trump seems to want to focus on are Democratic issues: trade and infrastructure. Very shrewd to basically co-opt Sanders and Warren into Trump’s movement and thus divide the Democratic Party.
