Grey's Anatomy - Premiere (Possible Spoilers)

First, does anyone else watch this show?

I thought the first season was much more realistic, as far as these type of evening soap operas go, but this episode was a bit far-fetched. The manner in which they handled the “cheating husband” was very strange, and the only real dialog appeared to occur between Meredith and Dr. McDreamy at the end.

Also, Joe the bartender guy was the same dude who played the suitor in “My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance”… too funny!

I gave that show a chance until the episode in which they had the psychic. If they’re going to do the whole “skeptics are people whose hearts have died” schtick, they could at least show the kind of psychic you get in real life – making broad, unfalsifiable predictions and taking money from grieving people who can’t afford it. Possibly this should go in the Cliches I Hate thread.

I watch the show. Started when it booted Boston Legal out of its timeslot, and I wanted to know what the network could feel is worth depriving me of my Shatner. It’s a good show (whereas Boston Legal is a great show). As Johnny Angel complained, it is a bit preachy and at times far-fetched, but it usually is pretty solidly grounded in seeming reality. I have both it and Boston Legal set with season passses on the ol’ Tivo.

Last night’s episode was definitely a little more soapy than most of the first season, especially if they’re trying to add Redhead McCheatingwife to an already crowded ensemble cast. I really like bumbling, insecure, chubby O’Malley with his unrequited love for Grey; I was happy to see him be the hero this episode and really carry a good bit of the story. I feel like the main character’s main “becoming a real doctor” story arc is the weakest direction the show is taking, and that’s probably bad news.

And of course as a warm-blooded heterosexual male, I say the more Izzy the better.

I love the show, but it’s definitely only as a strong member of my “guilty pleasure” category of programming. It’s become more and more far-fetched as we go along. And, as my husband said after he tried watching one episode, “Is all anybody on that show EVER does screw somebody else?”

It’s ludicrous, unrealistic, medically unsound, and highly entertaining.

I like it. I too view it as a guilty pleasure.

I watch and like this show, but definitely as a “fun” show and not as a “great” show (though I don’t think it’s appreciably worse than any of the other stuff that is “good” enough to get regular threads and adulation, either). I think last night’s episode was sort of stuck in that they had a lot of things from the end of last season that they had to at least partially address; hopefully, it will back a little out of the “soap opera” feel over the next few weeks. I’m hoping the wife will go back East where she belongs within the next couple of episodes, now that they’ve used her to tie up that little plot point. The more George and Izzy, the better, IMO.

Also, for the record, Kate Walsh (the wife) is currently listed on IMDB as a guest star for episodes 2.2, 2.5, and 2.6 (in addition to the two she’s already been in). That may or may not mean anything, so take it as you will.

This is also my guilty pleasure fun show. Unrealistic and soapy, but I loves me some Sandra Oh, and the George character is great. Am I the only one who doesn’t find Dr. McDreamy at all dreamy though?

Guilty pleasure here. Would somebody like to fill me in on the last 20 minutes? When I last saw it, somebody was going under the knife.
