They should have a wessen beaver named Jim played by guest star Jim Beaver. That would be epic. ![]()
the idjits don’t have the balls to do that.
Yay for Bud, the honorary Doper! It was cool that he helped get the lawyer’s sweat.
One thing I didn’t get – it seemed like the lawyer was still casting his spell during his summing up: why did the jury find the guy guilty?
Because Monroe had picked the correct frog, and the mojo he was putting out was either powerless, or anti-mojo (they weren’t clear on exactly how it would work post-frog-injection). The lawyer obviously thought he was still pumping out high-test.
I figured that they were going to resolve the did-I-pick-the-right-toad issues by shaking the lawyer up badly enough that he decided he needed to double up on toady goodness (or reveal that it was his routine to double up before his closing statement so that he could end cases with an especially powerful blast).
Monroe should have stolen one of the toads. Sure, the lawyer would have opened the briefcase and gone WTF, but what would have happened next? Stuck at the courthouse with only one toad to eat and no time to go looking for another, he would have downed the remaining toad, or none at all. Either would have been a good outcome.
Bud the beaver is a fan fav, it seems, and I’m no different. Likable guy. I’ll second the “Jim Beaver as The Beaver” dream-casting, but Jim’s a little too laid-back to be a nervous beaver. Put Jim on the show in any capacity, as long as it’s at least a semi-recurring role, and preferably as a likable character. Like Bud the beaver, Jim Beaver is likable. Somewhat avuncular, in a quiet, patient manner.
I’d be interested in a Juliet poll. I don’t hate her immensely, but I’m REALLY tired of how they’re dragging this out. I think they’ve immensely overestimated the audience’s give-a-shit. More about the Wesen political intrigue would be preferable to wound-up Juliet.
Once again, enjoying how most everyone can be open about the Wesen community. Conspiracies require multiple people, and over the long-haul, are ever-so-much more fun then one man against the world.
Nice to see a recycled Wesen this week. I would rather they stop introducing new ones every single week. I don’t need new weird, old weird is interesting enough. Save new ones up for special occasions!
Couldn’t agree more.
I’ve also lost interest in Adalind for a while now. The only female character I like is Rosalee. I think the writers need to do a better job with their female characters.
Yeah, but there was still all that testimony that he had evoked that was on the record. Rosalie couldn’t explain to the jury what had happened, so even with her as the foreperson, how did they reach such a quick verdict?
Amen! Wouldn’t it be nice if there were one that wasn’t someone’s girlfriend/love interest/fuck buddy?
Also – what exactly is the difference between a wesen and a hexenbiest? I realized last night I was unclear on a fairly basic point of the mythology.
Vessen is the generic term for all - Hexenbiest is the specific type
Might have been on the record - but the affects of the ‘spell’ and the ‘false testimony’ was removed from the affected(s) minds - as if neither had happened.
Rosalie has a real function on the show - beyond her relationship with Monroe - she is a full character.
As is Adalind - although her bit is to be the ‘bad girl’, they are using to bridge Portland to the Royals thing - I do like that consistency there.
We have yet to meet Juliette’s character - and Grimm was specifically told to cut ties for her protection - so, this is the aftermath of that decision and the what next - I do think they could do better - but at least they don’t have him having to protect her every episode either - we could do without the distraction, but it does make the choices ‘more real’. She wasn’t this whiny before the cat scratch.
What specific type?
What specific type?
Yes – when Rosalee finds the anatomy diagram of the “geruck” gland, she describes the potion they need to make as “sort of a pheromone vasectomy, which will negate everything he’s told the jury.” Which I suppose makes sense in-world, in a sort of “magic did it” kind of way, but the fact of the court record bothered me too. Also an inapt analogy, as a vasectomy cannot un-inseminate past partners.
Anyway. Did anybody else notice Monroe had a couple of “Oh come on” kind of moments in this one? It seems they’re using his comic one-liners almost as a kind of fan service to imply they (the writers) know the situation is kind of obvious, but just go with it - like the scene where they’re discussing the potion and Rosalee says, “There’s one unfortunate ingredient we need,” and Monroe’s eye-rolling response is, “Should’ve seen that one coming.” Or when he opens the briefcase to inject the toad and finds two toads: “Two toads … one dose. Seriously?”
Vessen is to Dog as Hexenbiest is to ‘jack russel’.
or maybe better -
Vessen is to Animal as Hexenbiest is to ‘Deer’ and BlutBad is to ‘wolf’.
Oh, oh oh, so it’s a specific species – Adelind is a hexenbiest, right? I was thinking it was a family of some sort – like Monroe was also a hexenbiest (larger group of which blutbad was a subcategory).
Thanks!
:smack:
It’s “Wesen,” German for creature or being (pronounced “vay-zin” in real German and “vessen” in Grimm German).
Right. Or, she was. Nick “exorcised” the spirit out of her toward the end of last season and she lost her powers and is now like a normal human. Her mom was also a hexenbiest, and Captain Renard is half-hexenbiest.
In the season 1 episode “Beeware” we see a few others–hexenbiests in the area are being killed off by the bee-like Wesen.
Frau Pesch (who visited Adalind in Vienna) is also a hexenbiest. The actress is the show’s dialect coach. I thought that was kind of cool.
