I knd of miss the fairytale quality it had in the first season, it seems to be turning darker. I have no problem with dark but I liked the light-hearted aspect as well.
The only dialog in the pilot that has anything to do with the ability getting passed on when somebody dies is:
“What, someone in your family just die?”
“My aunt’s in a coma.”
“Ah, that explains it.”
Then there’s that bit in “Three Coins in a Fuchsbau” where Nick tells Farley Kolt that Marie was his aunt, and he says, “Then she’s dead, isn’t she?”
It’s all a bit vague, but it does seem like they meant us to believe that it gets passed on when a family member dies. Either they changed their minds or there’s some big convoluted conspiracy where the Grimms want the Wesen to think that it happens that way when it really doesn’t. shrug
I’ve seen a couple of interviews with David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf where they say that they wanted to bring Mom back from the very beginning. Maybe they just hadn’t thought through all the implications?
Or they are still fleshing it out - Mom’s quote was something to the affect of “we don’t quite know how it works or what triggers it, but it does seem to be hereditary” and the aunt’s understanding of it is ‘different’ than mom’s.
Doesn’t need to be more complicated or “plot holey” - simple works.
Aunt didn’t say anything about it. The comments were all from Wesen.
And you know who else was a Wesen?
Well played.
Episode 2 (8/20/2012) - what did y’all think?
Mom’s definitely up to something.
Juliette waking up and not recognizing Nick - no surprise there.
Renard - WTF is he? Half human half… what? Sort of looked like a male hexenbiest when he was looking at himself in the mirror.
Nick seems to be having more and more trouble keeping his police work separate from his Grimm work. It looks like Hank is getting closer to being let in on Nick’s little secret.
Two thoughts:
-
Ugh, amnesia. Boo.
-
More than ever, I wish Renard were the main character in this show.
Well, yeah, amnesia, boo – but it was inevitable. Let’s hope they do something interesting with it.
Renard can’t be a hexenbiest, or Nick would know. Clearly not entirely human, though.
I’m not much into muscle-y, clean cut guys, but damn, is Reynard hot!
Just thought I’d throw in that very important information. That is all.
Interviewwith the guy who plays Renard – includes spoilers, so don’t click on the link if you haven’t seen the episode yet.
Looks what I was wrong about him not having any Hexenbiest in him.
Shouldn’t Mom have taken the coins to Mordor before going after the Prince?
And do you think the Dragon Lady will end up making a play(not necessarily a successful one) for Nick now that his girlfriend’s got amnesia?
I am really hoping that the potion dropped into Juliette’s eyes will magically make her worth caring about. I mean, it’s not as though I loathe her. She doesn’t ruin the show for me. It’s just that, when it comes time for the show to bump off a major character to illustrate how serious the situation is, she’d be a great pick.
Weird that the captain’s never been spotted by Nick before. Maybe it’s something special about royals that they can hide from grimms?
So far as I can tell, Nick only sees Wesen as such when they somehow lose control of their appearance (most commonly due to strong emotion such as fear or anger). Renard is VERY controlled (except when drinking dubious Hexenbiest concoctions), and knows Nick’s a Grimm, so no doubt is very good at keeping his appearance human.
It hunk Renard and Monroe are the two best characters by far.
I’m also glad they’re getting work because I loved Sash Roiz(Renard) as Willy Adama’s uncle in Caprica and Silas Weir was fantastic in Prison Break.
Since Renard is half-Wesen, maybe his human half gives him more control. Or maybe it actually takes some effort for him to change. It was hard to tell from what we saw.
Does the mom plan to use the coins herself? Destoying them are not obviously her highest priority. I agree with others who say that Nick gave them up too quickly.
Thgere are probably other casings from Nick’s guns (from previous cases), but I’ll let that slide. I’m wondering if staying closer to the truth would have been better (I was called there, the agents were dead, I killed the bad guy). Of course tha wouldn’t explain the knife wound.
The hug was unexpected / weird.

If you’re talking about Rosalee hugging Nick’s mother, that was a surprise. The look on Monroe’s face was hilarious, though. ![]()
