Grimm, Season 4

Not half. Either quarter or three quarters. Daddy’s half and mommy’s full, so it should be 3/4, but it was when the mother was dehexenbeisted(?) that she was conceived, so could be 1/4.

They look like long dead corpses that haven’t rotted evenly.

They don’t really seem to be like the rest of the vessen in many ways, not just in terms of symmetry.

Something that just occurred to me about a week ago or so. Wessen are usually human/animal hybrids. But Hexenbiests aren’t. I wonder if any other Wessen that aren’t part animal will be introduced.

We’ve seen quite e few non-animal Wesen (trolls, ogres, bigfoot…).

Good point. OK, I’ll put it like this. Wesen are people who can transform into an animal or some recognizable mythical creature. Hexenbiests (and the male verison Zauberbiest) seem to be people who woge into rotting corpses. That’s the best description for their wessen form. I wonder if there are other wessen who woge into creatures that aren’t animal or myth.

In terms of mythological basis, aren’t hexenbiest the equivalent of hags?

A hag is an old woman.

I think they were just going for a scarier version of wicked witch; I doubt the mere fact that they resemble corpses has any great meaning. A thin, sickly, elderly person has a kind of corpse-ish quality already, right?

Yeah, they use witch as a description of a hexenbiest (and warlock for the male Zauberbiest). They can cast spells and look scary. According to the Grimm Wiki a hexenbiest resembles a zombie. That sounds about right.

Edit: Damn, reading my post I realized I’m totally geeking out over this show.

In mythology, a hag is more than just an old woman. And, according to wikipedia, the German word for hag is “hexe”.

I had no idea. And it does make perfect sense.

Is his name really “Drew Wu?”

Yes, according to the Grimm Wiki

Geez, poor Wu. I thought they really were going to tell him this episode, but he’s gone over the edge again. Makes me re-think them telling him at this point, maybe he really wouldn’t have been able to handle it at all, anyway, even if Griffin had been able to catch him and start explaining. I think he might have started seeing monsters everywhere and just freaking out all the time. I’m interested to see where his story goes from here.

Apparently. Though it’s possible Drew could just be his “western” name and he has a real name that’s something more ethnic. Or maybe it’s just short for Andrew.

New episode last night–anyone watch yet?

I thought it was good. Wu is finally brought onto Team Grimm! He’s handling it well.

I liked the scene in the interrogation room when that Wesenrein dude realized that Nick got his Grimm back. But there was something weird going on with Nick’s face–it was kind of going pale and… deathly, for just a moment or two while he was threatening the guy.

Juliette’s got some bad voodoo going on. That one scene with her and Rosalee!

Woo hoo, Wu. Finally.

I noticed Nick turning blueish too. Didn’t he do that before? I can’t remember what it was. Supercharged unpredictable edgy Nick I’m guessing. Dark Nick.

I liked the chickfight, even with Julliette holding Rosalie’s trachea in victory. Dead <snerk> giveaway that it was a dream sequence. Gives me hope for my
fantasy of Julliette offing Adalind.

I also liked Wu asking Renard if he was Wesen. “You don’t want to go there.”

Nick had this zombie thing going on for a couple of episodes after that voodoo priest, Baron Samedi, zombified him. Then we didn’t see anything about it for a while and thought it was a dead end. But now it’s in play again. Should make things more interesting. Nick is becoming a kind of supergrimm.

Going to Reynard is understandable, since his mother was a Hexenbiest
But his mother proves that not all HB are bad
And of course she should try drinking his blood (which has been brought up before)

So going to Reynard first - I’m OK with. Keeping it a secret - bad idea.

Brian

In a lot of shows like this characters keep secrets, even though it blows up in their faces over and over again (I’m looking at you Supernatural).

Also, I didn’t feel worried about whether or not Monroe would get rescued in time, seeing how incredibly long the trial dragged on.

Other than those two things. Not a bad episode.
