Grimm

Yeah, I think they were telegraphing this in the very first episode. Nick is out studying in the trailer, and there was an ominous shot of the girlfriend just watching him from the window.
ETA: I’d also like to thank NBC for replaying episodes later during the week on the SyFy channel. They deserve some good karma for that decision.

Good point. I thought it just to throw us off. You think danger is coming his way, and it only turns out to be his girlfriend.

Kind of like how in a horror movie someone is in an attic, the ominous music plays, and it turns out to be a cat.

I’ll be very impressed if they manage to work “Reynard The Fox” by Julian Cope into the soundtrack at some point.

Anyone still watching? I just got caught up with last week’s episode and have a question.
Who (or what) is the refrigerator repair man?

I’m watching. I’m not sure about the repair man. Some sort of guinea pig, or hamster, or gerbil. I don’t know. Something like that I’m guessing.

I figure a weasel.

My first thought was gopher. (Maybe he’s a mole man!)

With the first name of Hans?

The Rat episode was so bad that I’m close to bailing on this show.

There was almost no development of the season story arc and the Mystery of the Week was awful and suspense-free. Blutbad didn’t have anything to do and the awful lines they’re giving the Asian cop to say should embarrass us all.

They have one more week to pick it up.

I thought that the Big Good Wolf was very funny in the rat episode - clearly had no clue when it comes to counselling a troubled teen, yet so proud and smug about how well he’d done.

But once again I am confused by the Three Little Pigs episode. I had assumed thus far that somehow, all the FTMs automatically knew that the protagonist character was a Grimm. But the slob Blutbad didn’t seem to have a clue. Protagonist has only been a Grimm for a couple of months and has yet to do much in the way of active pursuit beyond his actual job, so I can’t imagine he’s just generally known in the FTM community as a Grimm. There’s got to be something about him that allows FTMs to recognize him as one. Why couldn’t the slob Blutbad see it?

I really want to like this show. I think it’s well executed, and has an interesting premise. I don’t hate the actors, and I really love Big Good Wolf. But they have got to get the arc moving a little faster!

And refrigerator repairman looked like a hamster to me, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if he were any kind of furry prey animal. Clearly not a predator.

I figure slob blutbad didn’t see it due to his laid back attitude - seemingly still high for most of the episode.

Female BlutBad saw it immediately and took pro-active action.

Cop Pig Arson guy recognized it and assumed kindred spirit.

It was also hinted at atleast once that there were other Grimms out there. - thinking back to last week with the reaper “he’s A Grimm” not “the Grimm” of course, that’s a bit of linguistic subtlety that usually goes over the heads of TV show writers these days

(and I know they have names, but dangit if I can remember them right now)

I’ve liked the show so far, but it’s starting to seem like it would have worked better as a movie than a series (I think the same thing about shows like Lie to Me) because the formula was established quickly and it hasn’t varied much at all:

  1. Horrible crime is committed.
  2. Grimm Cop investigates, sees that the main suspect or victim is not human.
  3. The whateveritis senses that the cop is a Grimm and freaks out.
  4. Big Good Wolf or Grimm cop has to convince the whateveritis that he’s “not like other Grimms” so they can find the REAL bad guy, who is also not human.
And that’s pretty much it. The only variation we seem to get is what KIND of not human something is. Unless some major plot starts happening, that’s gonna be hard to keep interesting in the long run.

Yes, they need to work on the overall mythology of the show better. How were Nick’s parents killed? Where do the Grimms come from? What’s the deal with the captain and blonde monster? What were the bees trying to warn him about? Every week, Nick checks his aunt’s trailer and reads from one of the books, but we as the audience don’t learn much. The aunt had a great arsenal of weapons, including her cane sword, but Nick never uses them. It can’t just be monster of the week.

Somehow I missed the previous episode; I’ll have to go back and catch it on demand. We learned more about Monroe in this episode. He continues to be the most compelling good character. Near the end, Orson told Nick that being a cop sometimes gets in the way. I hope this means Nick does some non-cop Grimm work.

Grimm is OK. Not great, not horrible, just OK. On a scale of 1 to 10 I’d give it a 5.

But, even though I don’t live in Portland, I am an Oregonian so I think it’s cool that the show is set in Portland.

Well, I just watched the Rat episode, and the bad guys were three ordinary human kids.

Was it my imagination or did they dump two new episodes on us on Thursday and then Friday? That can’t be a good sign for the show.

If I didn’t have TiVo, I’d have never seen the Thursday episode. Of course, it was also the weakest of the season so far, so maybe they did it on purpose!

Yes, it was a new episode on Thursday and another new episode on Friday.

ITs been picked up for the season - my guess is they ran the extra to make up for pre-emption the week before or something.

I actually thought Thursdays was one of the better ones -

From the Goat Episode:

Total WAG: the woman had been the victim of long-tem domestic violence, so when GoatMan tried to seduce her, she freaked out. Unlike a normal woman who has positive associations with sex, she associated sex with her abuser and fled in terror.

From the More recent Revenge of the Pigs episode:

I’d agree that Brother blutbad, Hap, was too dumb/drunk to recognize a Grimm. After all, he was too dumb to see the pattern of both he and his brother being in explosions untill it was pointed out to him. Sister blutbad had probably already smelled the Grimm at the scene of the explosion and so would have known to be looking for one.

I’m idly curious about what sort of program Hap and Monroe had gone through together.

I thought the bit with the refrigerator repairman was a set-up to get the girlfriend to start asking questions and put herself in danger. How she’s still alive and not is hostage is rather a mystery, but perhaps the writers are saving her for the season finale. I don’t think she’s a FTM, I think she’s going to be a victim. So far her only reason to be on the show is as a doctor who doesn’t ask questions.

More importantly - she’s a VET.
