I just wish they could get a German speaker for the creature names instead of typing random words into Google Translate. If I heard it correctly, the rat people were called “Reinigen”, which is German for “to clean”. They were clearly going for something that would mean “Cleaners”.
It is a small thing but really annoying…
Otherwise: I am still enjoying the show but I too wish they would add more mythology about the history, abilities and purpose of the Grimms and their enemies. They even introduced a plot device (granny’s diaries), why don’t they use it?
Went back and watched the Thursday rat-centric episode. I like any episode that features blonde monster and the captain working to further their mysterious aims. What will Nick do if his partner starts dating a hexenbiest? Great use of clarklewis(the restaurant.)
Which would be important if the FTM stayed in their animal forms when injured, but the posters in this thread seem slightly divided about that. I’m guessing that in the Grimm universe, the normal humans (like the girlfriend, in my theory) never see the animal natures of the FTM. We, the audience, only see the animal natures because it is necessary to the story, just as we could “see” the scent trail in the Pigs Vs. Wolves episodes.
I’m pretty close to giving up on this show. Grimm has no personality. Not the actor, the character. In the first episode, they introduce him as a guy who can read facial expressions be able to extrapolate entire personas from that. In about six episodes that’s really the only thing they’ve ever done to define him as a character and that nugget of information never advanced past the pilot.
He’s inquisitive in a way that makes absolutely no sense. Sure, if you’re facing down a weird monster, it’s helpful to go to the Charmed book and see what’s going on. But wouldn’t you also be concerned with the larger picture? Wouldn’t you also say “what in the hell is going on here?” I wouldn’t be looking up the baddy from this week. I’d be looking up every goddamned creature in that book and then scouring the internet to see if I could find anything else.
But no other characters even get that much personality (save for the BlutGood). His fiancee. Quick, what’s her name? Name an interesting quirk about her. Yeah…she’s cardboard. So’s Grimm’s partner.
Seriously, this is from the producers of Buffy? So this is what Buffy would be like without Joss at the helm.
The biggest annoyance, though, is that they still haven’t bothered to define the rules of the universe. That mole-man who repaired the fridge. How did he know that Grimm knew who he was? The guy didn’t know Grimm was a Grimm. Grimm didn’t say anything upon the guy changing. At best he had a minor facial reaction which could be attributed to anything. So how did he know? We don’t know. Because this series still hasn’t defined what the heck Grimm’s powers are or how they get used.
Rapunzel as a blutbad. What happened to the guy who the brothers kidnapped and tortured? Arrrrrgh. At this point, I’m only watching this show for two reasons: it’s filmed and set in my hometown and it comes on after Chuck. When Chuck ends, I don’t know if I’ll keep watching.
It was a shock to see Claudia Christian. The years since B5 have not been particularly kind to her. Of course, her character was not one that called for being particularly beautiful, so maybe it’s just a matter of her clothes and makeup not being particularly flattering.
Too many loose ends for this to be a single epsiode. This either had to be part of the arc, or a two-parter.
The Grimm treats the Big Good Wolf like shit, and I’m getting tired of it. I love the Big Good Wolf; his Christmas decor was enchanting! And he’s just such a nice guy.
Did you catch the three guys, one of whom was last week’s refrigerator repair guy? One of the others accused him of being on “tree sap” for insisting that he’d seen a Grimm and lived to tell the tale. I’m wondering if they’re beavers. But why would beaver-creatures fear a Grimm?
What I didn’t like was her on-demand crying any time her daughter was mentioned. It didn’t seem natural and frankly was bad acting. The way she was acting I was wondering for a while if she didn’t have anything to do with her daughters disappearance.
And the refrigerator repair guy and friends were pretty funny.
Silas Weir Mitchell (big good wolf) is fantastic. He’s definitely the glue that holds it together. This episode wasn’t great, but I’m certainly intrigued. The main character is wooden; I can only hyope he improves and the way he treats Weir Mitchell improves.
I like any episode that features a lot of the captain. Now Monroe knows about the trailer. Juliet was put in danger. Hank will be looking for an elephant gun owner that he doesn’t know is Nick. It deepens the mythology a little bit on most fronts. It wasn’t strictly a monster of the week episode.
Well, good that I didn’t miss it, anyway – that’s the part of the storyline I find particularly intriguing, and I hope they do something with it before the show goes on hiatus. Or get canceled.
Was it just me or did Grimm’s partner admit to putting the Giant away under suspect circumstances? Didn’t he admit to a recording that had the Giant at a fast food restaurant at the time of the murders that he hadn’t released to the defense? Grimm won’t put up with that kind of tom-foolery. He’s a Grimm, not a killer (sorry couldn’t resist). Partner will likely be gone soon.
And the wife-of-Grimm. She’s totally leaving him I think. That’s why she was sobbing while cleaning up the mess at the end.
Yea, he admitted to the Grimm that he and the dead lawyer lady witheld evidence. The guy on the recording looked enough like the ogre that there was a chance it would constitute reasonable doubt and the partner didn’t want to take that chance.
And since he told Grimm what he was doing, and Grimm didn’t tell his captain what the partner was planning, and even wanted the Good Wolf to give the ogre gun to the partner, Grimm was implicitly giving the partner permission to go vigilante.
This was supposed to be the show’s take on Jack and the Beanstalk, but it didn’t really do much with it. I mean, it had a big, scary dude, but loads of stories have one of those.
