Groovin' to porno music

Many moons ago, when i was in college (we’re talking back in the dark days of 1999 here), my best friend was a DJ for the school’s station. I used to hang out there a lot when he was doing his show, often helping him pick out music and stuff. One time while there, i came across a CD called Schoolgirl Report by Gert Wilden and his Orchestra. A little bit of research brought us the knowledge that this was a compilation of scores to 70s German Porno Movies! Naturally, we had to play it.

Fast forward about a year and a half. I’m sitting at home on my computer, and i’ve got this song stuck in my head. A quick reflection and i soon realize that it’s “Follow Me” by the multi-talented Gert, and run a successful search for the song. Now, this music is a far cry from the stereotypical funk guitar most often associated with porno music. This actually has full orchestration and everything, and sounds more like gogo music (or something you’d hear from the old Batman show) than anything else. Okay, it’s a little bit more risque than you might have seen on Batman, but it would certainly fit in with your average B-movie of the Beach Blanket Bingo variety.

So anyhow, i don’t know what the point of telling you all this is. But hey, it’s MPSIMS.

Cool. I’m heading to Napster now.

Schoolgirl Report is an excellent album name. That alone makes my day.

zyzz, you never cease to amaze me…

An old musician friend pays his bills while waiting for his big break by doing cheesey compilation discs (on rhino, I think). A few years ago they asked him to rearrange a bunch of 70’s porn music, he did it as a lounge jazz act, and it is hysterical. I believe the name of the disc is Sexorama. I highly recommend it for afficianados of porn music. On a related note he also did an album called “Songs From the Cantina” which is lounge jazz versions of all the major themes from Star Wars. I laugh myself stupid every time I hear it. He redid the Imperial March with really bright sounding horns and it makes you want to get a conga line going. I’m sure they’re on Napster somewhere.
