In feline news, Allie didn’t even bother to hiss at Buddy so far this evening, and Buddy has decided I must have a bathroom escort. He got pretty upset at the closed door until he worked out that it wasn’t so solidly closed that a determined cat couldn’t open it. Once he figured out pushing it open and found me, he seemed to feel better.
Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off to heave.
Glad you made it!
Gordie has started having the occasional hissy fit about me going to the bathroom. Silly old man.
Happy Thorsday!
Debating going to the park. I’ve already picked my son up from irk. It’s pretty nice out, 57 degrees, but my knee is hurting and I’m grumpy as hell. If Barky is going, I’m not. I’m not in the mood for noise today.
Thank y’all for asking about my mother. I guess being bored is a good thing. She took some puzzle books with her.
I didn’t get to try anything from The Krab Joint as the truck was gone when I got there. I suppose they ran out of food?
The mortgage company called me the other day, and wanted to verify my address as they owe me some money. I didn’t know it was coming FedEx. I think I have to sign for it. It’s not that much money, @ $600. I thought it’d be coming USPS.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and N.O.S. for the day. Summer is sayin’ hello today, I reckon. This mornin’ I shall mow the back yahd. It needs it more so than the front, so I’m just goin’ to worry about the back. After that there will be much sloth in the form of quality cee-mint pond time. We shall be bears who laze poolside today. Sup shall be majick intartoobz pizza and sallit just cause.
sari hooray for your mom’s chemo treatment goin’ well!
MetalMouse glad you made it safe and sound to Seattle.
Nettie maybe Buddy has decided he shall be your guard cat. A lot of accidents happen in the bathroom after all.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! Well, it’ll be afternoon when I finish this and post it It’s 14C/57F and cloudy here today. Weather app says “The clouds are all nuts to butts up in the sky” - the sun’s still breaking through here and there to remind me it’s not still winter.
Sari so glad to hear your mum got through her treatment with nothing worse than a case of boredom. I hope it continues that way.
metalmouse sometimes a delayed flight is a good thing! Hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly.
Reboot I once got offered a job interview purely on the strength of my email address. Got the job too! Just goes to show that a little good humour can go a long way.
Poorly eye is a bit better today, I’ve been putting drops in and alternating with the antibiotic gel so it’s much less painful but still quite sensitive to light. I’ve dimmed all my screens as much as I can, and have reminded myself to take regular breaks away from work too. It helps that I’m working from home so don’t have to go out in daylight either
The cats seem to have forgiven us for going away and abandoning them again, this time we had friends coming in to feed them every day so they avoided the cattery. I even had five minutes of Whisper on my lap last night which is almost unheard of.
Right…bit more work and then lunchtime…I have something in my calendar to do today, so I should do it and get it out of the way.
Allie is also a bathroom escort, but no, no teamwork. Allie doesn’t voluntarily get within a foot or two of Buddy. He seems inclined toward at least cordial relations, she’s not having it.
sari - glad things weren’t as awful for your mom as she’d feared. Here’s hoping for a good outcome. Seems odd that the mortgage company wants your address - after all, they hold the mortgage! Yeah, OK, I know people have mortgages on rental properties…
I went to bed to read last night, then woke up at some point, wearing my glasses with my tablet lying on top of me. I guess I dozed off… Must have been more tired than I’d thought.
Finally heard back from FCD’s aunt, so I have her address and I can find a hotel near where they live. I think she’s a tad sad that we won’t crash on her sofa bed, but honestly, I’ve never slept on a hide-a-bed that was even remotely comfy. So I can get that reserved today.
I’ll also make a grocery run, and water the grass seed I flang yesterday since we didn’t get rain last night. Not sure what else I’ll do - I’ll figure it out as I go along!
Happy Thursday!!
Good morning everyone.
I read all but retained little.
sari, I’m glad your mother’s chemo session went better than expected.
I’m glad you made it safely to Seattle, Metal Mouse. I wish I could have gotten away from work to have a mini mumpfest and meet up with you. I hope your cruise if fantastic!
I had to go into the office yesterday to take care of some stuff. Next week my full telework schedule starts. Thank goodness I only have to go three times in two weeks because these gas prices would have made it very expensive to work.
Today is my Friday and I’m happy about that. I just need to get through today. My weekend will be busy; I’ve got errands to run tomorrow and on Saturday we’re all meeting up to celebrate Mother’s Day. The kids couldn’t get a reservation for Sunday, but I’m good with that. The following weekend, we’ll have Adam who will keep us super busy and the weekend after that we’ll be celebrating my birthday And, the final weekend in May is Memorial Day weekend. I haven’t decided if we’re doing something or we’ll just relax. Between those weekends work is jam packed with lots to do. I am so looking forward to August.
Geezer shopping at the CVS yesterday. Came home with the following treasures:
*Ankle brace for the right Achilles
*Knee brace for the left arthritic knee
*Anti-diarrhea pills
*Hydrocortisone cream
Wheee! Fun times ahead!
It sounds like he’s settling in nicely.
sari I’m glad your mom’s chemo treatment went well.
BooFae I’m sorry that Bad Eye continues to misbehave. Welcome to the dark side, away from all daylight.
cookie I hope you feel better soon.
In a little while, I shall take Akiko to the vet and hopefully get permission to start tapering her prednisone. She’s turned into a hypervigilant very hungry caterpillar. She lies on the ground by the door and barks at everything, every leaf, every bird, every voice 2 blocks over. If food is available, she switches modes to ambulatory and scarfs up everything she can reach, including quite a lot of naan and a loaf of bread. I still don’t know how she managed to get those. They were on the kitchen island and should have been well out of reach.
After that we have Beamer’s IEP. Once again, they will attempt to convince us that he is not autistic, etc, and we will let our attorney do the talking. I can feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about it. In fact, I’ll have a panic attack if I’m not careful. Right. Akiko, then panic attack.
Onwards to the day. Happy Friday’s Eve everyone!
I think it was roadrunner. I don’t post in the MMP that often (too busy), although I do often try to read it.
Congratulations to Mexico, for winning the Battle of Puebla 160 years ago today. Take that, you French!
(It’s OK, France. I’ll congratulate you in July.)
I think so too. I like Roadrunner, but I think you’re ReBoot now.
Oh, I feel fine. Things just don’t work like they used to, which is just part of later life.
Sari, I’m so glad the treatment went well for your mom!
It turned out to be a gross day in mid-east MO - it has been pouring since last night and my backyard is a river. But at least I don’t have to water anything yet. It’ll go from around 50-60F today to in the mid-90s by Tuesday. Typical. We generally get a couple of days of spring, then things escalate quickly.
I just saw the absolute coolest bird outside, though it wasn’t a roadrunner, which would’ve been cooler (and hard to explain in the Midwest). It was a scarlet-headed blackbird. Super bright head & chest and legs, contrasted with a deep, dark black back. I’ve never seen one before. It was super pretty.
We’re having a baby shower at irk today. (That means she done it! ) I’ve been informed that I shall take part in a game, wherein the males in the orifice race to change a diaper on a stuffed animal. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a diaper being changed, let alone changed one. I guess I’ll lose.
flyboy Well, the stakes are much lower on a stuffed animal. I think it’ll be self-evident when you get there. Good luck!
Akiko growled at her favorite vet. She’s known her since she was a puppy, so Dr. Heath was astounded. Akiko then crawled under my chair and hid. We’re tapering her prednisone, so hopefully she’ll start feeling better soon.
30 minutes until Beamer’s IEP. We’ve consulted with the attorney and have a plan. Go us!
Heaved. The fed us breakfast, since Preload went 10,000 hours without an injury.
To celebrate properly, we should blast a baguette with a musket.
But if you don’t celebrate right, heads will roll!
I’ll have to bring up my Swiss Army Knife. (It’s on a lanyard in my backpack.)
I completely lost track of the last thread about halfway through. I’m caught up on this one (honest!), but I don’t have the energy to also catch up on the old one. Bad Mumper.
I finally had my first tattoo removal session on Saturday! I have two tattoos: I’m getting the one on my left arm removed completely, and getting the background of the one on my right ankle faded. Before the session began I had a little moment of sadness about the one being removed: I’ve had it since 1999, the subject matter (a wolf) is still near and dear to my heart, and the tattoo artist did a great job. But it’s really big and includes some super-dated design elements, and it’s just no longer “me.” It hasn’t been for quite some time. And, with the weight loss, I might actually want to wear a tank top/sleeveless dress someday without betraying my redneck roots. Heh.
I will say this about tattoo removal: OUCH. I’d heard that it hurts more than getting the tattoo did, and turns out that’s true. It’s pretty painful! The good news is that the pain doesn’t last very long: for the large tattoo being removed I think the laser was only used for 1-2 minutes, and for the smaller one being faded – which hurt more, due to the location – it was less than a minute. Both were just bearable. The bad news is that I’m going to need 10-12 sessions, each one 6-8 weeks apart. Oh, and it costs 10x more than the tattoos did. The end result will be worth it, though.
My arm and ankle are both still a little sore; the ankle more so. I had to use hydrocorisone cream once a day for the first five days, and I’ll keep using it for a little while as needed for itching; tomorrow, I start applying vitamin E oil daily until the next session (in mid-June). I’ll be curious to see how long it takes for all of the itching/soreness to stop; that info will help me schedule future sessions.
In other weekend news, I saw Leslie Odom, Jr., in concert Saturday night. Really good show.
I’ve found that the key to having a work phone has been learning that it’s OK to ignore it after hours. At first I didn’t like having two devices to carry around, but now I appreciate the separation: it’s easier to leave work behind when I want/need to.
