Happy, Merry MMP

Despite my very good robo-call blocker, I got a call today from my car’s dealership service department letting me know my warranty was about to expire. Wasn’t that nice of them? I didn’t want to burst their balloon, so I didn’t tell them that I don’t have a car or a service department and just hung up. I sure hope I didn’t hurt the robo’s feelings.

Aw, hippie, that sucks. It’s the hardest part of living, I think, seeing people we care about die, especially family members. I dread losing my siblings, who are all older than I. And MD is a cruel disease. I was a teen-age counselor at a at an MD camp for a little kid named Billy, a funny, stubborn 7-year-old with an independent streak. If we were in a hurry, he’d stand on top of my feet, and I’d do the walking for both of us. It was such a joy when we went swimming because he could use his legs pretty well then. I knew he wouldn’t live to really grow up, and he didn’t. But that was a kid I knew two weeks, not a lifetime, as you did your brothers (and I won’t put “” around that). Damn. I’m so sorry. And I salute you for turning your life around after a rocky start. You had good men to guide you, but you made the decision and did the work.

swampy, that sounds like a meal fit for a king…two kings.

Oo, Mooooom, that trip looks so cool! When I was a kid, I’d look at US maps and think how great it would be to sail down the St. Lawrence Seaway (I loved saying “Seaway.”), through the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi, etc. I never imagined ti would take a year, though. Question: how will you see the grands?

MetalMouse, I used to get Frosty Paws at WalMart.

This trip is so far in the future, I can’t even consider that yet. I’m committed to care for Toby at least till he’s in the preschool that Roxy’s in now, so 3 years at least. Initially, we’ll probably just do the bits of that route along the Atlantic - up to Maine and down to the Keys. This summer, tho, it’ll be all Chesapeake Bay as we get to know the boat and its systems.

And if we finally do get to do the Great Loop, we may be able to take the kids for parts of it. We’ll see…

FCD is napping. I’m trying to decide what we’ll do for supper. Quiet day here, now that all the laundry is done.

I’m so sorry, hippie. Donald sounds like a lovely man - you and your brothers must be heartbroken.

Sheesh, hippie. I am so sorry. Long distance {{ huggzz }} from a long ways away.

Loss never gets easier, I’m sorry you are hurting so much now. What a lovely tribute to some wonderful people.

I was somewhat productive today. I went to surplus produce and they gave me a turkey, LOL! (The laughter is because the produce day before Thanksgiving, they gave me a case of ramen.) We also got carrots, summer squash and cucumbers, more ramen, a couple of loaves of bread, a gallon of milk, 5 boxes of organic mac and cheese and 5 lbs of mozzarella cheese. The turkey went in the freezer and we took what we needed and then the rest of the food went off to the lunch room where I used to work and I’m now trying IP dill pickles. I’m fairly certain the reason my dill pickles suck is because I didn’t have a pressure cooker.

While I was in town, I went to Ace Hardware for a propane torch sized can of oxygen. There was NO canned gasses. No oxygen, propane, butane or hissy cans. When I asked if Lowes might have it, the answer was that I should call before driving across town.

With the exception of our cats, we are done Christmas shopping. We always like to buy them new toys because it entertains us, not because they know what day it is. We also give them each one of those gormet fancy feast that comes in the plastic tubs as a treat.

In years past, I would watch sales and then buy up canned cat and dog food to take to the shelter so all of the homeless animals will have a good Christmas dinner. Chewy will be taking care of that this year, hubs has already pre-ordered and Chewy has always delivered for us. When he was entering the delivery address, it pre-filled which tells us that other people have stolen my idea which is wonderful!

Hubs needed to bottle some beer today and had it set up so he could start as soon as I got home (he needs my help tipping the bucket). Today’s beer is opaque orange in color. It smells wonderful and tastes very good despite not being chilled and carbonated. We’ll find out how it is in a couple of weeks.

His what the what now? Sending him my best wishes despite my ignorance.

Hippy I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you found such a warm and loving family. I hope the memories provide you comfort in the time ahead.

I woke up today feeling awful and have continued. I’m lying in bed with Pixel and contemplating why the world is so bright and loud. I’m certain the legends about vampires were based on dark-loving people like me. Other than the blood, the lifestyle sounds perfect.

This was at my granddaughter’s school today. She said she got to paint the tail! I do love that school!!

We have decided that supper will be twice-baked spuds and a salad. So that was easy.

Afternoon all. Mailed some stuff today and got myself a roomie for the May 2022 Alaska Cruise (old friend in NH, we’ve traveled amicably together before). So that saves about $1000. Tomorrow I have designated Xmas Shopping day, should take all of 15 minutes on-line to do it, so not a big thing. Gift cards were made for old curmudgeons like me.

FCM, granddaughter? Roxy or do you have another hidden away? And quite impressed that almost all of the paint ended up on the parking lot where it was supposed too…

Hippy, that was a beautiful story and not long at all (did cause an eye malfunction for a bit…). My condolences to you and your family (and like nellie, no " " are needed). Except for my brother, all of our family is gone or haven’t been heard from in decades. Cherish those you still have.

talky, was 73F here in N. Ali-bama this afternoon, supposed to be similar tomorrow. I can manage Decembers like this. And eyelids squeezed? Ewwwww…

Sari, if you’re turning 65, it’ll be Medicare. Isn’t too hard to accomplish. Of course, then you start getting the Medicare Advantage ads like swampy, FCM, and I get…oh joy.

3:30 in the PM–need to do a little kitchen cleanup and reading before dinner. All y’all take care.

Wow, hippie, very sorry for your loss.

FCM If you haven’t already, check out Great Canal Journeys. It’s a couple tootling around the canals of England. The wife played Sybil Fawlty on Fawlty Towers, and the husband is also an actor, one of those “hey it’s that guy”…er … guys. It was the first thing I thought of when you mentioned your pending cruise.

Roxy - she’s the one and only granddaughter. Unfortunately, she wasn’t photographed during the project. Oh well…

Spuds-n-salad were yum. Being geezers, we ate early so we’re done early. Sadly, there was no chocolate cake in the house.

Chillage is in order for the rest of the evening.

I added it to our watchlist. Thanks!

So FedEcchs came through with the package, on the second day it was “out for delivery”. At least it got here. The Jungle has some goodies for me arriving later today (mundane household supplies), and DoorDash just did a great job bringing Taco Bell. Yes, we’re lazy today around here. Both of us are dealing with messed-up sleep patterns.

For those who like Burger King Whoppers and haven’t yet heard, tomorrow and Saturday, Whoppers are only 37¢, their original price (in 1957). The catch is you have to sign up for their Royal Perks loyalty program and order through their app. My local store is a mile away, and I hate to eat there, so food would be cold by the time I got home.

I’m happy to report the Dog Next Door was barking and howling earlier. I’m not happy he’s loooooonely. I’m just happy he’s still there. Too bad they didn’t take me up on my offer of free dogsitting.

Misnomer, if you’re reading this, know that I’ve been thinking of you and hoping the recovery is going well.

FCM, that is SO COOL! I wanna go to school there! Is it too late? I really wanted to see a photo of Roxy. How do you miss getting a pic of a Roxstar?

So when will the cats finish their shopping? Do they order online or from catalogues?

You know how sometimes you go to the doctor for one problem, only for the doc to find out a different problem? Apparently the husband unit went to get his eyelids squeezed (as I understand it, the oil-producing glands in his eyelids were clogged, so they needed to, ah, soften the clog and squeeze 'em clear), and discovered he’d had a terrible reaction to the steroids they gave him, so his eye pressures were through the roof, putting him at risk of blindness. Viola!

Anyway, overlyhusband is fine (for now), but has been given other meds to bring the pressure down, and has also been instructed to clean up his diet immediately. So the kids are going to have a fabulous dessert tonight to get rid of the sweets in the house, which they will probably thoroughly appreciate, while overlyhusband will be duct-taped into the bed if need be to ensure he gets enough sleep.

Really the only bright spot was that his eyelids were not, in fact, squeezed. Between milking people’s eyelids and cheering on fungus, I think we’re all pretty much over this week.

talky :scream: i hope hubby’s issues clear up soon.

I have, via the magic internet shopper, ordered Costco and it will be dropped off soon. Pixel is trying a new medication to see how it works for him. We shall have salmon for dinner. That is all the things in Sunny-land.

I have been avoiding reading about talky’s hubby’s eye treatments. Just thinking about it gives me the willies.

Back when I was a toddler, I fell out of Dad’s Studebaker and split the skin next to my eye badly enough to need stitches. They covered my face with a sterile clothe with a hole cut in it so that all I could see was the needle coming at my eye. Poor Mom was sitting in the waiting room counting the stitches by my screams. It’s been 60 years and I still have nightmares about that damned needle.

Of course they order from CATalogs you silly girl!

I’m so glad I wasn’t missing anything because I also looked for her. It does look like a good time was had by all and very cool.

I’ve been so busy doing nothing that it’s almost dinner time and I haven’t even started working on my house. I sure wish there was a way to contact the designer and tell them how much I’ve enjoyed it and how easy the 12 pages of instructions were to understand and follow.

I am wondering if buying a magnet on a stick was all it took to finish magnetizing me. I haven’t dropped a needle since it arrived! And here I was doubting my jabs needlessly!

D’oh!

When I was a small person, much like you I had a severe laceration by my eye (through my eyebrow). I still have memories of my dad helping to hold me still. Definitely no numbing agent!

All this talk of stitches and eyes give me the willies too, unknown…they’d have had to knock me out to do it on me as a youth.

Cheeseburger has been assimilated and kitchen looks slightly better. Got some readin’ and tackleball watching to do, not much else on the agenda. Did manage to finally get all the CD packages out of the car and into a new CD holder that will take up much less space in the car.

FCM, like the others, I was looking for a picture of the Roxstar at the school–still, it was a nice activity for the kids.

VanGo, I don’t think that 45-footer would fit in most English canals…maybe a river or two. But don;t give FCD any ideas!!

Howdy Y’all! Sloths the world over are envious of our slothin’ abilities, such sloths we are! Been a wonderful day of nuttin’ much outside of cookin’ and eatin’ sup and cleanup afterward. The weather was so nice we even opened up da cave windows for some fresh air. I could deal with days like this every day!

{{{Hippie}}} I am so sorry for your loss. That is a wonderful tribute to your brother Donald.

MOOOOOOM how cool! I, too, want to go to Roxstar’s skool!

unkown YIKES! Just readin’ about it made my eye hurt!

talky I guess it’s all better than gettin’ eyeballs squeezed. :: shudder ::

Thank you all for your kind words
