Happy Thanksgiving MMP

Cupcakes?*
And you wonder why you do so badly in the death pool. :dubious:

blurf

This is already a gawd-awful long day. The model I’m working is huge and everything I try to do takes forever!!! Plus it’s the day before a 4-day weekend, and that doesn’t help at all…

Irk shift is over, time to get a shower and head out to get some things done.

We’ll probably get lunch out, he’ll want TacoHell as usual. I shouldn’t get anything out, I have enough chili to last me a few days.

I have to remember to get gas - for the car that is - for the trip to the armpit on Saturday. Maybe we’ll go Sunday, except traffic will probably be worse on Sunday.

My new battery should be here today. I hope it fixes my phone.

**sari **- if you have to drive on any interstates on Sunday, it could be pretty horrific. I know for personal experience that I-95 on the Sunday after Thanksgiving can be almost a parking lot. I assume other interstates might be similarly congested, altho 95 is along a well-populated corridor.

Almost lunch time. At last!!!

I think we will stick with Saturday, 70 can be horrible. The 2 hour drive can turn into 5 hours. It’s worse when we get up here in the mountains , because of all the assholes who try to use the slower truck lane as a passing lane. Too much craziness for me.
I really just don’t want to go.

.

Kitchen is cleaned & ready to commence the casserole/cranberry relish making. (Deviled Aigs will be made tomorrow, as they don’t do well in the fridge overnight.)

Then packing.
I can’t wait!!!

I woke up at 3 in the am. At first I thought it was the cat, but then I said I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE MY NIECES AND NEPHEW ON THANKSGIVING. I’m about ready to cry, I’m so happy.

Lunch is a piece of pizza from the cafeteria (the pizza sucks) and a salad. Whatever.

baker, when I worked in food service, my standard response, was “I’m sorry that isn’t on our menu.” If they [del]demand[/del] request an explanation, a positive spin would be that the menu is limited to ensure top quality and freshness. As someone who is on a restricted diet (diabetic), I have few expectations of every food outlet having sugar free/low carb items on the menu. I either go with what I can have or go somewhere else.

To all who are hitting the road for the holidays, safe and enjoyable travel wishes to you.

Today is slooooowwww! I’ve actually done more work for our locations in other countries than here. :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, everything is all prepped. Cookage shall ensue tomorrow. Pearl I went ahead and made deviled aigs today. I like to live on the edge. Burgers and chips for dindin cause it’s easy and I got a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for a burger.

No battle plan survives contact with the enemy.

I left work early. I’ve already begun wasting time on Netflix. Glorious slothiness!

I’m going to have to copy this one off so that the next time someone asks about this I’ll have a ready response available…

::weep, weep:: nothing in particular, just this whole situation

Well, made it to Illinois, it didn’t start raining until I was past Nashville, and while traffic was heavy, it flowed well (and fast) until I hit Illinois, where the drivers apparently change speeds (and lanes) on a whim.

Of course I arrived too early, nobody home yet so I am typing this at the Troy, Illinois Public Library (YEAH for Libraries) which is open until 8Pm.

If I can get back over here (brother uses wi-fi and I am hopeless on that score), will report on Thanksgiving dinner.

I agree that **Sunny’s **is really the best suggestion. It offers your non-buying customer a way to feel important, and offers a “real” reason why you can’t accommodate the special snowflake - people with actual allergies will appreciate that you are realistic about cross-contamination.

Having a day of contrasts here. A friend needed last-minute help delivering meals today. And the people whose homes I delivered to were lovely. But I was overwhelmed at their circumstances. Sometimes, I guess it’s good to be reminded that (a) I’m extremely lucky, and (b) that sort of need exists right here in our little town… and not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And now my son and I are having a text conversation. He was invited to his girlfriend’s grandparents’ for the holiday. He’s feeling a little out of his league. Apparently, they own a number of beachfront acres and an original Picasso, and there’s a private chef cooking tomorrow’s meal. “I was just offered a glass of wine that probably costs more than my rent!” I’m advising him to mind his manners, be himself, and make discreet inquiries whether they’re interested in adopting a 47-year-old.

In other news: I’m thankful that insurance paid last night’s tow bill, that our regular mechanic fixed the family mobile today, and that the total was less than 1/4 what I feared.

Now, to get cooking. I’ve been assigned to bring the turkey, bread, and pecan pies to Mama’s tomorrow. I don’t feel like cooking, but I guess I must. (And don’t tell anyone, but I’m using frozen bread dough, dammit. For white and rolls, homemade isn’t really that much better!)

I’m baking the pie tonight, and the bread tomorrow morning. I’ll be eating at church, so I’ll take the unbaked dressing with me and put it in the oven after the service.

Safe travel to everyone.

anyrose, I was in the hospital once over Thanksgiving. I was really cranky.

Ruble - I am officially ready to burn the calendar. Remind how that ritual goes?

'Beamer, it turns out, fractured his wrist on his roller rink trip. The one that he won from school as a prize for being awesome. He’s actually having a blast with his cast - pretending it’s a ray gun, or that he’s Iron Man, but I’m not sure the joy will last 5-6 weeks. There’s also our Hawai’i trip coming up in 1 and 1/2 weeks. It was planned around snorkeling, the beach, and, well, snorkeling. I’m researching swimming casts now, if such a thing exists.

Oh yeah, my MiL arrives tonight and is coming to Hawai’i with us. Still no idea why she was uninvited from my BiL’s house for Thanksgiving. Since I can’t really unpack more than a box or two at a time, I’m planning on putting her to work while she’s here. We’ll see how that goes. :smack:

Actually, if I could go back and burn 2015 while I’m at it, that’d be swell.

Peaches, hope everyone’s ok. Sounds like you’ve had an eventful week.

MetalMouse You don’t WiFi? I feel certain we can assist… Most of the time, (most I say - my parents house being the exception) it’s pretty easy. Did you bring a computer with you on your adventure?

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

{{{Rosie}}}

Burgers got et and some wine has been consumed. Just chillin’ the night away.

There are swimming casts (yay) and if we can’t get one here in town, we can special order some gizmos that are custom made to cover casts for just this situation. Happy dance!

Still burning the calendar though.

My cats are happily shredding some tissue paper that just came in a box my husband opened. Cat nirvana. A box AND tissue paper.
