Near as I can figure, the Vermont quarters were supposed to come out around the end of August. Is this something that can be properly ascribed to the tragedy in New York and Washington?
Yep … we’ve seen them here in RI as of last week.
Yup, I have three in my pocket right now.
Yep, I have two in my wallet that I got about two weeks ago in, of all places, Monroe, GA.
They’re kind of cool.
They are all over in here in Boardman, Ohio.
I’ve gotten one in my cash drawer in Montreal, Quebec, if you please.
I think they’re one of the nicest designs thus far (love the state, too)
I’ve got a few. They have a beautiful mirrored finish and a lovely design.
Definitely one of the better thought out designs for the quarters. Beautifully set up, and very much ties into something dear to Vermont’s heart.
(Though I think the homemade Maple Syrup I get from my uncle in Maine (He owns about 100 acres of mountainside) tastes better than any Vermont syrup I’ve had. )
This was actually brought up on another thread as well. The Vermont quarter is one of the best so far. I believe the “Freedom and Unity” motto is in reference to Vermont being the first state to outlaw slavery. Vermont is also currently the only state that allows gay civil unions. Pretty cool. I love this coin.
On the day they came out, I was in the bank getting change for the store I work at. I didn’t know that that was the day they were coming out, or anything about them. But apparently they were a sensation, because I took 3 whole rolls of them back to the store, and as I emptied the first roll into the register, I had 3 different customers jumping to look at them. It was a trip.
Yesterday I got 4 Vermont quarters from a bank branch in a local supermarket.
Several months ago I got a collection-book for the state quarters (through the Walter Drake catalog, I believe); it’s mostly kid-oriented, but hey, it’s full of interesting historical tibdits about the States and has sturdy holders for the quarters (and 2 Sacagawea dollar coins).
What is happening is that the sheer numbers of state quarters produced is so enormous, the newer issues are backing up, only being released as they move out older ones. If you happen to live in an area supplied by a Federal Reserve Bank which has a vault full of quarters, you don’t always see the newest one quickly.
We got the new Kentucky quarter in our coin shop yesterday. But we had to pay extra and haul bags from hundreds of miles away. I’m afraid it will only get worse as more state quarters are produced.
There have been lots of the Vermont quarters over the last couple of weeks here in central North Carolina. However, the Rhode Island quarters issued just before Vermont were pretty scarce here.
For about a week I had a bunch of them. In fact, I exclaimed over the first one I noticed (before handing it to the bored clerk at Urban Outfitters). She looked at it, shrugged, and barely supressed a sneer at my enthusiasm for something so mundane.
Now I haven’t seen any for awhile.
Yep, I’ve seen them too.
Bu I can’ believe no one has yet mentioned the fact that if you don’t look at it real close, it kinda looks like a guy peeing on a tree.
Kentucky? I thought those were coming out next month.
The “official” release date of the KY quarter was this past Monday.
thats interesting sam, up here in seattle theres been a shortage of quarters from so many people hording the damn things as if they will have some future value, retail stores are haveing trouble getting enough to do business.
heres a hint people, in the future they are still gonna be worth .25$
Actually, Critical it’s a plot by the rest of the USA to strangle your economy. Considering you gave us Starbucks, you should only die a slow death.
